Thomas L. Pfahler
Thomas L. Pfahler, 57, of Tupelo, died Sept. 25, 2007 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy, and a Catholic. He lived most of his life in Holly Springs before moving to Tupelo 14 years ago. He was employed as a truck driver by Southern Quality Meats in Pontotoc.
A private memorial service was held Sept. 28 at Holland-Harris Funeral Directors Tupelo Chapel. Father Henry Shelton officiated.
He leaves his wife of 35 years, Judy Colston Pfahler; three sons, Kristopher Pfahler of Holly Springs, Scott Pfahler of Olive Branch, Joshua Pfahler of Baldwyn; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Cindy Sieben; and his father-in-law, Ed Colston of Holly Springs.

Phillip Wayne Pipkin
Phillip Wayne Pipkin, 54, of Potts Camp, died Oct. 1, 2007 at his home. He was a mechanic.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 3 at Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Steve Wilson, Bro. Tony Roberts, Bro. Jon Vasquez officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Beverly Pipkin; two brothers, James C. Pipkin, Delmer (Scooter) Pipkin, both of Holly Springs; and two sisters, Norma Jean Rieben of Olive Branch, and Patricia Teachnor of Elwood, Ind.
Ruby Lynn Ferguson Powell
Ruby Lynn Ferguson Powell, 88, of Byhalia, died Sept. 26, 2007 at Christopher’s Assisted Living Center in Holly Springs.
She was the widow of George Powell. She was past PTA president and a retired food service manager for Byhalia High School.
Services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 28 at First Baptist Church in Byhalia, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Memphis, Ark., was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two daughters, Donna Bourne of Memphis, Tenn., Patricia Gallaher of Germantown, Tenn.; and a son, George Powell of Byhalia.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Joyce Kinchen; and a son, Robert Earl Powell.
Memorials may be made to Byhalia First Baptist Church in Byhalia.
John Robert Reed
John Robert Reed, 59, of Olive Branch, died Sept. 24, 2007 at Somerville, Tenn. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Olive Branch, an electrician and a U.S. Marine veteran.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 28 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Dr. Bill Britton officiated.
He leaves his wife, Mary Ann Helt Reed; six daughters, Vicki Pasco of Southaven, Christi Reed of Memphis, Tenn., Leslie Chung of Walls, Traci Vallery, Tracy Smith both of Atlanta, Ga., Barbara Riley of Olive Branch; two sisters, Carolyn Barrett of Orlando, Fla., Corinne Bell-Rummel of Knoxville, Tenn.; and 13 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the John Reed Memorial Fund at any Bancorp South Bank.
T.A. Rhea
T.A. Rhea, 75, of Byhalia, died Sept. 30, 2007 at his home. He was the widower of Mary Hollifield Rhea. He was a Baptist and a front-end loader with Marshall County.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek Cemetery in Lamar. Bro. Frank Feathers and Bro. Gary Joyner officiated.
He leaves a son, Joe Rhea of Byhalia; a daughter, Bonnie Davis of Byhalia; two brothers, Clarence Rhea of Byhalia, Travis Rhea of Fresno, Calif.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
James Frederick Bell
James Frederick (Fred) Bell, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, died Jan. 20, 2007. After graduating from LSU he taught school in Biloxi, for 33 years. He was a long-time member of the Biloxi Kiwanis Club, MEA, NEA and a seven-gallon blood donor to the American Red Cross Blood Program. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Olive Branch. He was a teacher and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 24 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Boswell Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
He leaves his wife, Ruth Alice Boswell Bell; two sons, James F. Bell III of Huntsville, Ala., Edward D. Bell of West Memphis, Ark.; and two grandchildren.
James E. Cronk
James E. (Jim) Cronk), 64, died Jan. 20, 2007 at VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. He served as a deacon at Collierville First Assembly of God. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis; he was a truck driver for many years and a painter.
Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 23 at Brantley Funeral Home Chapel in Olive Branch. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery.
He leaves his wife of 47-1/2 years, Lillian J. Cronk; two daughters, Donna D. Cronk of Byhalia, Pamela P. Saine of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, Robert Wilson of Pearland, Tx., George Wilson of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Patricia Lambert of Dunedin, Fla.; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Ray Cronk.
Willie Newt Echols
Willie Newt Echols, 64, of Byhalia, died Jan. 17, 2007 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. He was disabled.
Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 20 at Street Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Byhalia, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Elder Porter officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two daughters, Vanessa Ltroy Glenn, Natarsha Nyree Echols, both of Seguin, Tx.; his father and stepmother, Oliver Echols, Odessa Echols of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Donna Brookins of Memphis, Tenn., Bonnie Phillips of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, Ervin Echols of Memphis, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
