Sara Tate Yates
Sara Tate Yates, 78, formerly of Holly Springs, died Jan. 20, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus. She was a member of Columbus Church of Christ.
Services were held at 4 p.m. on Jan. 23 at Columbus Church of Christ. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery. Ministers Billy Ferguson, Max Johnson and Richard Akins officiated. Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Lloyd E. Yates; a son, Gene Yates of Columbus; daughters, Mary Parker, Diane Cherry, both of Lebanon, Tenn.; a brother, Albert McAlexander of Columbus; a sister, Jennie Brown of New Albany; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Brooks Cherry, Micah Yates, Caleb Yates, Bart Cherry, Steve McAlexander, Warren Brown and Steve Simmons. Honorary pallbearers were members of Columbus Church of Christ.

Herbert Evans Jr.
Herbert (Little Toten) Evans Jr., 77, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 19, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He was the widower of Carrie Mae Dowdy Evans, a retired concrete finisher with Neal Bain Construction Company.
Services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 22 at Finley Grove MB Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. James Green officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves three daughters, Sally Woodson of Holly Springs, Dorothy Lipson of Memphis, Tenn., Jerlean McNeil of Lexington, Ky.; three sisters, Patricia Bailey, Juanita Evans, both of Chicago, Ill., Ella Braddock of California; two brothers, Joe Louis Evans of Chicago, Ill., Troy McCrary of Byhalia; 23 grandchildren 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons Andrew Collins, Daniel Collins, Clarence Collins and Leroy Collins.
Pallbearers were Roger Woodson, Jason Bownes, Jarvis Woodson, Tim Evans, Bobby Evans, Herman Houston and Johnathan Bownes. Honorary pallbearers were Robert L. Woodson, Joe Louis Evans, pastor A.J. Bailey, Troy McCrary, Joe Ayers, Manuel Stewart, J.B. Evans, Hose B. Evans and Willie Griffin.
William Walter Allen
William Walter Allen, 60, of Moscow, Tenn., died Feb. 23, 2007 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a Baptist, an employee with Pullman Mobile Homes and a Navy veteran.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 25 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Boswell Family Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Bro. Jim Perry officiated.
He leaves his wife, Vicky Allen; two sons, William Keith Allen, Robert Gordon Allen, both of Slayden; a step-son, James Allen Young of Moscow; three daughters, Jeanne Allen Carter of Slayden, Ginger Allen McCreless of Slayden, Jinny Frase Butler of Victoria; his mother, Katherine Allen of Slayden; a brother, Greg Allen of Slayden; a sister, Joyce Hataway of Slayden; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mike Cunningham, Henry Boswell, Calvin Stephenson, Dennis Smith, Bud Palmer, Dan Suroviak, Ed Pulliam, Tommy Gammons, Billy Bing and Wayne Jones.
Judith Ann Bach
Judith Ann Bach, 66, of Olive Branch, died Feb. 23, 2007 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was Catholic and a legal secretary.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Holly Springs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a son, Kevin James Woitesek of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Jan Burgos of Olive Branch; a brother, Paul Lindoerfer of Connecticut; a sister, Gail Lines of Naples, Fla.; and a grandchild.
Al Beard
Al Beard, 53, of Potts Camp, died Feb. 24, 2007 at Trinity Mission in Holly Springs. He was an alderman in Potts Camp and was a security guard.
Visitation will be March 2, 5-8 p.m. at Reid’s Gift Baptist Church in Potts Camp. Services will be held March 3 at the Potts Camp High School gym at 12 noon. Burial will be in Reid’s Gift Baptist Church Cemetery. Superior Funeral Home of Memphis, Tenn., Hollywood Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two sons, Joshua Beard, Alex Beard; three sisters, Shirley Dean, Lillie Hannah, Linda Sanders; five brothers, Ernest Beard, Emmit Nickson, James Beard, Clarence Beard, Curtis Beard; and one grandchild.
Dr. Percy Allen Clayton Jr.
Dr. Percy Allen Clayton Jr., 86, of Memphis, Tenn., died Feb. 23, 2007. He graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A & M University and practiced in Holly Springs until moving to Memphis to join his father in the wholesale grocery business in 1946. He became president of the P.A. Clayton Company, retiring in 1987. He served as a commissioner of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency under Gov. Winfield Dunn. He owned and managed a registered tree farm in Potts Camp for 23 years. He was a former board member of Memphis Boys Town and the Memphis Food Bank. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Voorhies Daniel Clayton; four children, Sarah Clayton of Atlanta, Ga., Susan Clayton Sutherland of Nashville, Tenn., Laura Ford Clayton, Percy Allen Clayton III, both of Memphis; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held on Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home. A private burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Ford Clayton; and sisters Nelie C. Brown and Marie C. Sammons.
Memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.
William Aldrich Dobbs
William Aldrich Dobbs, 89, of Lamar, died Feb. 23, 2007 at Alliance HealthCare System. He was a Christian and a mechanic.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 26 at Hopewell Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Juanita Dobbs; two sons, William A. Dobbs Jr. of Whiteville, Tenn., Jackey L. Dobbs of Lamar; two daughters, Brenda Stokes of Bartlett, Tenn, Fay Dobbs of Frayser, Tenn.; a sister, Sue Zimmerman of Wenatachee, Wa.; seven grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
David J. Humphreys Sr.
David J. Humphreys Sr., 72, of Neosho, Mo., died Feb. 4, 2007 at his home. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from the National Guard. He worked as a jet engine mechanic at Teledyne before working as a truck driver for United Machinery in Joplin, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Enid, Okla., and a member of the National Rifle Association.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 7 at Clark Chapel of Memories in Neosho, Mo. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery southwest of Neosho. Rev. Ron Bridges officiated. Clark Funeral Home of Neosho was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Connie Williams Humphreys; four children, David J. Humphreys Jr., DeAnne Farmer, both of Ft. Worth, Tx., Michael Griffin of Neosho, Ronda Weaver of El Dorado Springs, Mo.; a brother, George Humphreys of Holly Springs; a sister, Ginger Lovelady of Potts Camp; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford and two sisters, Bernice and Ada.
Pallbearers were grandsons David, Dylan, Dakota, Levi, Ethan, Matthew, Adam and Jason. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Dickens, Bruce Salsman and Earl Kruse.
