Joe Willie Jones
Joe Willie Jones, 70, of Holly Springs, formerly of Aurora, Ill., died Jan. 10, 2013, at Alliance HealthCare System. He was a former member of Mt. Moriah MB Church and a retired laborer with Mims Brothers Pulpwood.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 19 at Greenwood MB Church in Lamar. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Irene Vaughn Jones; four children, Willie Jones of Beaufort, S.C., Anthony Jones of Aurora, Robert Lee Jones, Russell LeSure, both of Holly Springs; four sisters, Verlean Echols-Toles of Holly Springs, Luerine Beard, Mae Ella Tuggles, both of Indianapolis, Ind., Veona Harper of Memphis, Tenn.; five brothers, Ezekiel Jones of Flint, Mich., Crawford Jones of Indianapolis, L.C. Jones of Holly Springs, Lorenzo Harper of Mississippi, Marshall Jones of Aurora; and five grandchildren.
Victor Hughey Jones
Victory Hughey Jones, 89, of Byhalia, died Jan. 16, 2013, at Baptist Memphis Hospital. He was an Army veteran, retired farmer and merchant.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 19 at Byhalia United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Rev. Stephen Bittick and Rev. Don Wilson officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Josephine Jones; four children, Lyn Hughes (Byron), Victor H. Jones Jr. (Carol), Bryan Jones (Elaine), and Becky Jones (Ken); a sister, Mary Agnes Jones Chambers; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine.
Pallbearers were Jason Jones, Craig Long, Byron Hughes, Ken Jones, Clayborn Hasty, Bob Carrington, Chad Carrington and Kevin Hughes. Honorary pallbearers were L.E. Malone, William D. Fitts III, Bill Stephens and Jim Bierworth.
The family requests memorials be sent to St. Jude Hospital or Byhalia United Methodist Church.
Robert Lee McGhee Jr.
Robert Lee “Bug” McGhee Jr., 61, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 19, 2013. He was a member of Yarbrough Chapel CME Church, a former member of Waterford Masonic Lodge, a member of Holly Springs Cowboys Riding Association, a member of the 8-Point Hunting Club and assembly line worker with TCI of Ashland.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 26 at Mt. Peel MB Church in Laws Hill community. Burial was be in the church cemetery. Rev. Rondias Cox will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Ammie Jeffries McGhee; a daughter, Monique McGhee Johnson (Anthony) of Holly Springs; a son, Roderick McGhee of Holly Springs; his mother, Sweetie Lee McGhee Hoey of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Annie Hoey, Jacqueline Hoey, both of St. Louis; six brothers, James Hoey, Bryant Hoey, Larry Hoey, Henry Hoey, all of St. Louis, Mo., Michael McGhee of Memphis, Tenn., Eddie McGhee of Aurora, Ill. and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tarsha McGhee.
James Edgar Parrish
James Edgar Parrish, 83, of Byhalia, died Jan. 20, 2013, at Baptist Collierville Hospital. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 23 at Church of the Living Gospel, where he was a member. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. Bro. Jay Glosson officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Linda Parrish; a son, Michael J. Parrish of Byhalia; a brother, Clinton Parrish of Columbus; and a grandson, Michael Parrish of Richmond, Va.
He was preceded in death by his son, George Samuel Parrish.
Ruby Louise Poff
Ruby Louise Poff, 76, of Ashland, died Jan. 17, 2013, at Ashland Health and Rehab. She was the widow of Dewey Poff. She was a clerk with Benton County Circuit Court and she worked with the Benton County School Superintendent Maureen Bain and for the Farese Law Office.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 20 at Bluff Springs Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Dr. Gerald Hodges and Bro. Farron Ash officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves three sons, Michael D. Poff of Brandon, Stanley D. Poff, Jeffrey H. Poff, both of Ashland; a daughter, Cynthia A. Hunt of Ashland; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
William Lewis Clark Sr.
William Lewis Clark Sr., 68, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 4, 2009 at his home. He was the widower of Betty Lee Clark and a carpenter.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 7 at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Bro. Kevin Crofford officiated.
He leaves a son, William Lewis Clark of Sardis; a daughter, Sandra Faye White of Batesville; two brothers, William Alton Clark, Raymond Dudley Clark, both of Batesville; three sisters, Mary Ruth Reichert of Batesville, Sandra Kay Harris of Batesville, Linda Dianne Patton of Courtland; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Aaron Jones
Aaron Jones, 66, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 5, 2009 at his home. He was the widower of Jerlene Crump Jones. He was a church deacon, a member of the male chorus, a member of Men of Faith, a member of Men’s Ministry and a retired laborer with Marshall County.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 10 at Mt. Moriah MB Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Dr. R.J. Wilson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a daughter, Jessie Sanderson-Banks of North Aurora, Ill.; two sisters, Ruby Jones of Byhalia, Minnie White of Memphis, Tenn.; eight brothers, Douglas Jones, Uesther Jones, Eddie Jones, all of Holly Springs, Emmitt Jones of Byhalia, James Jones of Gary, Ind., Almus Jones, Joe Jones, both of Chicago, Ill., Percy Jones of Rex, Ga.; and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lela Johnson.
Nelson Mays Jr.
Nelson Mays Jr., 59, of Coldwater, died Nov. 2, 2009 at his home. He was a factory worker.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 7 at New Bethlehem Baptist Church in Coldwater. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two daughters, Khan Mays of Coldwater, Jamecca Nolan of Byhalia; three sons, Eugene Hunt of Coldwater, Taurus Mays of Coldwater, Daruis Nolan of Byhalia; five sisters, Ella Mays, Schery Mays, Angela Newsom, all of Coldwater, Hazel Patterson of Memphis, Tenn., Carolyn Mays of Senatobia; six brothers, Henry Miller of Coldwater, William Miller, Willie B. Young, both of Memphis, Tenn., Jessie D. Mays of Hernando, Joe Lee Mays, Billy Mays, both of Coldwater; and nine grandchildren.
