Sylvia Lynn Grisham
Sylvia Lynn Grisham, 29, of Ripley, died Feb. 10, 2007 at her home. She was a Baptist and a licensed practical nurse at Ripley Manor Nursing Home.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery in Ashland.
She leaves three sons, Greg Taylor, Matt Taylor, Josh Taylor, all of Faulkner; a daughter, Brooke Grisham of Ripley; her mother, Linda Derrick of Ripley; and her grandparents, Billie Smith, James Smith of Byhalia and Ida Goode of Potts Camp.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Clifford Mercer.
Jefferson Hollingsworth
Jefferson Hollingsworth, 78, of Ashland, died Feb. 11, 2007 at Cartersville Medical Center in Georgia. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a retired heavy equipment operator.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 24 at Ashland United Methodist Church. Rev. Bill Kemp will officiate. Sosebee Funeral Home, Canton, Ga., will be in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Blanch Hollingsworth; sons, Donald Hollingsworth of Byhalia, Terry Hollingsworth of Tennessee; daughter, Ann Patterson of Canton, Ga.; brothers, Phillip Hollingsworth of Charleston, Dee Hollingsworth of Atlanta, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ashland UMC, in care of Laura Grubbs, 144 Second St., Ashland, MS 38603.
Louis Douglas Jones
Louis Douglas Jones, 67, of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Gary, Ind., and Holly Springs, died Feb. 11, 2007 at Liberty Nursing Center in Toledo. He was a member of Mt. Sinai MB Church in Byhalia and a retired laborer with El Freo Pop Company in Gary, Ind.
Graveside services were held on Feb. 20 at Mt. Sinai MB Church Cemetery. Dr. Edward Parker Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves three daughters, Barbara Bowman, Fronia Murray, both of Memphis, Tenn., Alisha Jones of Gary, Ind.; and two sons, Frank Burton of South Bend, Ind., David Jones of Milwaukee, Wisc.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Cornelius (June) Jones Jr.
Pallbearers were family members.
Billie Wells Kesler
Billie Wells Kesler, 78, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 17, 2007 at Trinity Missions Nursing Home. She was the widow of Marvin (Frog) Wells and Floyd Kesler. She was a member of Believer’s Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 19 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery in Waterford. Bro. Billy Michael officiated.
She leaves a son, Terry Wells of Holly Springs; two sisters, Myrtle Robertson of Charleston, Opal Bradshaw of Brownsville, Tx.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ken Wells; a daughter, Carolyn Wells; a grandson, Gregory Champion; a brother, Sonny Ulch and a sister, Imogene McCarty.
Jerry Clifford Mercer
Jerry Clifford Mercer, 70, of Michigan City, died Feb. 10, 2007. He was a Baptist and a construction worker.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in New Salem Cemetery. Bro. Gary Porterfield officiated.
He leaves three daughters, Leilah Mae Cox of Hurley, Wisc., Virginia Perez of Rockford, Ill., Darlene Stewart of Walnut; two sons, Randy Mercer of Waterford, Randle Mercer of Walnut; a sister, Joycie Mae Mercer Allen of Middleton, Tenn.; three brothers, James Wesley Mercer of Lamar, Terrell Elmer Mercer of Ripley and Larry Wayne Mercer of Michigan City; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Cecil Alberson, Curtis Alberson, Billy Wayne Spencer, Billy Spencer, Terry Rutherford and Danny Allen. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Mercer, Dale Hopkins, Terry Mercer and Ted Mercer.
He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Sylvia Smith Grisham.
Myrtis Elizabeth Todd
Myrtis Elizabeth Todd, 76, of Red Banks, died Feb. 16, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a life-long member of Carey Chapel Baptist Church.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 18 at Carey Chapel Baptist Church. Burial was in Carey Chapel Cemetery. Bro. O.E. Langner and Bro. Charles Boyd officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Harold Todd; a son, Harold (Eddie) Todd of Barton; a daughter, Peggy Elizabeth Hunsucker of Piperton, Tenn.; a brother, Elliott Neon Langston of Waxachie, Tx.; three sisters, Mattie Lou Anderson of Mt. Pleasant, Katie Connor Skelton of Martinsburg, W.Va., Delia Bell Hurdle of Slayden; six grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Charles Vest
Charles Vest, 79, of Hickory Flat, died Jan. 31, 2007 at his home. He was retired from Fruehauf Trailer (Mule).
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Feb. 2 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial was in New Garden Cemetery.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Nadine Vest; six children, Laura Swinford of Ashland, Jackie Ford, Annette Lloyd, Jean Clayton, all of Potts Camp, Randy Vest of Hickory Flat, Judy Crabb of Byhalia; two step-children, Dot Medlin of Oxford, Tommy White of Olive Branch; 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Janie L. West
Janie L. West, 68, of Myrtle, died Feb. 18, 2007 at Delta Medical Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hickory Flat.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 23 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Feb. 23. Burial will be in McKay Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Williams Phillips will officiate.
She leaves a brother, Billy Franklin West of League City, Tx.; three nieces, Linda Payne of Hernando, Brenda Gardner of Olive Branch, June West; and three nephews, Bobby West of Memphis, Tenn., Steve West of Kalispeel, Mont., David West of Texas.
