Bernice Echols Totten
Bernice Echols Totten, 85, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 31, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Napoleon Totten. She was a member of Shady Grove CME Church in Chulahoma, a missionary, a stewardess, church treasurer, member of Mississippi Supervisors Association and supervisor of District 4 from 1974-1988.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 4 at Rust College Doxey Auditorium. Burial was in Shady Grove CME Church Cemetery. Rev. C. Shelton Greer officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two daughters, Mildred Mitchell of Holly Springs, Martha Totten Jamison of Memphis, Tenn.; seven sons, Othell Totten, Adell Totten Sr., Robert H. Totten, Mack C. Totten, all of Memphis, Tenn., Bertrial Totten, Landon Totten, both of Holly Springs, Napoleon Totten Jr. of Olive Branch; a brother, Olive Echols of Memphis, Tenn.; 54 grandchildren 70 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by children Willie P. Totten, Francis Totten, Malcolm Totten and Murray Totten.
Pallbearers were Bertrial Totten Jr., Ronnie Totten, Jaefis N. Totten, Detric Jamison, Kelvin Douglas Jamison, Dwight E. Mitchell Jr., Eric Totten and Keith Trailer. Honorary pallbearers were Othell Totten Sr., Mack C. Totten, Landon Totten, Napoleon Totten Jr., Bertrial Totten Sr., Adell Totten Sr., Robert Totten II and Dwight E. Mitchell Sr.
Grady Lamar Waddle
Grady Lamar Waddle, 54, of Mt. Pleasant, died Feb. 2, 2007 at his home. He was a Baptist, a carpenter and a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Carey Chapel Cemetery.
He leaves his wife, Sissy Parker Waddle; two sons, Jason Waddle of Moscow, Tenn., Brian Waddle of Independence; his mother, Margaret Waddle of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, George Waddle of Holly Springs, Jimmy Waddle of Potts Camp; five sisters, Betty McCarver of Independence, Sandra West of Potts Camp, Scarlett Nichols of Potts Camp, Shenia Rhodes of Mt. Pleasant, Carolyn Inmon of Potts Camp; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Zack Waddle; and brother, Donnie Waddle.
Lurline Warren
Lurline Warren, 86, of Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of Byhalia, died Jan. 25, 2007 at her home. She operated the Warren Grocery for more than 50 years and was a retired seamstress.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 4 at Isaac Chapel CME Church in Byhalia, where she was a member. Burial was in Warren Family Cemetery in Byhalia. Rev. Willie Ward officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves eight sisters, Celestine Taylor, Minnie B. Johnson, both of Cleveland, Ohio, Lena Nobumoto, Velma Spencer, Freddie Muse, Maxine McJimpson, Elaine Powers, Carmella Warren, all of Las Vegas, Nev.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Warren; and a brother, Alvin Warren Jr.
Pallbearers were Marvin Balfour, Beneto Coleman, Ben Yarbrough, Donnie Taylor and George Yarbrough. Honorary pallbearers were Ernest Nichols Jr., Larry Coleman, Harold Powers Sr. and Ronnie Taylor.
Lucendia Delbridge Ford
Lucendia Delbridge Ford, 83, of D’Iberville, formerly of Waterford, died Dec. 17, 2007 at her home. She was the widow of Robert Ford. She was a retired cook with Wall Doxey State Park.
Services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 22 at Spring Hill MB Church in Waterford, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. George Marion officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Bettie L. Bell of Chicago, Ill.; her grandson who cared for her, Billy Bell of D’Iberville; a sister, Selina Booker of West Memphis, Ark.; a brother, Albert (Bubba) Delbridge of Holly Springs; 11 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her son, Melvin (Jr. Bell) Bell Jr.
James E. Ford
James E. Ford, 58, of Memphis, Tenn., died Oct. 10, 2007 at his home. He was a native of Panola County. He was an Army veteran and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 19 at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel. Elder Raymond Ford Jr. officiated. Burial was in Memphis National Cemetery.
He leaves a son, Ricky Market of Chicago, Ill.; six sisters, Marguerite Gipson of Holly Springs, Thelma Willingham, Lottie Parker, both of Memphis, Tenn., Georgia Ford of Sardis, Jessie Finlayson of Tampa, Fla., Earline Blake of Oxford; four brothers, elder Raymond Ford of Warner Robins, Georgia, Franklin Ford Sr., Dorris Ford of Sardis, Gerald Ford of Amarillo, Tx.; and one grandson.
Mashunti Daccara Gorman
Mashunti Daccara Gorman, 3-1/2 months old, died Dec. 17, 2007 in Red Banks.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 22 at Concord MB Church Cemetery in Slayden. Rev. Clyde Williams officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her mother and father, LaToya Bowen Gorman and Matthew Gorman of Holly Springs; a brother, Monterious Dreshun Gorman of Holly Springs; grandmothers Clara Bowen of Slayden, Josephine Gorman of Holly Springs; and her grandfather, Kimmie Waller of Memphis, Tenn.
Charlie Young Sr.
Charlie Young Sr., 86, of Grand Junction, Tenn., died Dec. 16, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - East. He was a self-employed farmer.
Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 22 at Pleasant Grove MB Church, Grand Junction, Tenn. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Manuel Donis officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his children, Myrtle Young, Ricky Young, both of Grand Junction, Tenn., William Danny Young of Middleton, Tenn., Ruby Buggs, Rena Shaw, both of Memphis, Tenn.; and two sisters, Allie Young of Grand Junction, Osnell Meadows of Memphis.
He was preceded in death by his wife and children, Charlie Young Jr., Annie Woodley, O.C. Young and Jimmy Parker.
LaVerne S. Choate
LaVerne S. Choate, 80, of Byhalia, died Dec. 16, 2007 at her home. She was the widow of Joseph Howard Choate. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a Baptist.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Dec. 19 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial was in Memory Hill Gardens in Memphis, Tenn.
She leaves her three children, Patricia Choate Davis of Byhalia, Michael J. Choate and Christopher K. Choate, both of Fayette Co., Tenn.; a brother, Roy E. Stinson of Paris, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
