John Lemuel Garner Jr.
John Lemuel Garner Jr., 86, of Hickory Flat, died Dec. 14, 2007 at his home. He was the widower of Cleo Margaret Beck Garner. He was a Methodist, an auto body repairman, a retired teacher and a Navy Veteran of World War II.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 18 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Pisgah Cemetery in Hickory Flat.
He leaves a son, Michael Garner of Hickory Flat; a daughter, Kathleen Gullick of Clarksville, Tenn.; two brothers, Wayne Garner of Aberdeen, Herbert Garner of Smithville; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Renick.
Donnie Ann Dawson
Donnie Ann Dawson, 62, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 14, 2007 She was the widow of James Henry Dawson. She was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 17 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek Cemetery.
She leaves a daughter, April Ann Dawson of Holly Springs; two brothers, Charles Skelton, Sidney Skelton, both of Holly Springs; and a sister, Sadie Jarrett of Holly Springs.
George William Frayser
George William Frayser, 63, of Potts Camp, died Dec. 13, 2007 at his home. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 17 at Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, where he was a member. Burial was in Frayser Family Cemetery in Potts Camp. Bro. Jon Vasquez and Bro. Steve Wilson officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a son, George Frank Frayser of Potts Camp; a daughter, Grace Elizabeth Boatner of Potts Camp; his mother, Dorothy Frayser of Potts Camp; three brothers, Robert Edward Frayser, Aubry Guy Frayser, Mike Frayser, all of Potts Camp; four sisters, Agnes Owens of Potts Camp, Mary Elizabeth Boren of Holly Springs, Kathy Hopkins of New Albany, Janet Wilson of Potts Camp; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph William Frayser.
Dorothy Lipson
Dorothy (Laura Ann) Collins Lipson, 53, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died Dec. 3, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital. She joined the Kimbrough Chapel MB Church at an early age. She later joined the Mt. Moriah East MB Church. She was a graduate of W.T. Sims High School; received her B.S. degree from Mississippi Industrial College and masters degree from Arkansas State. She became a teacher at Rosa Fort High and also taught in Marianna, Ark. She later became an entrepreneur at D&M Beauty Salon and also at D&M Demolition until her health failed.
Services were held on Dec. 7 at Mt. Moriah East Baptist Church, Memphis, Tenn. Dr. Melvin C. Smith officiated. Burial was in Finley Grove MB Church Cemetery. Superior Funeral Home of Memphis, Tenn. was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Monroe Lipson; a daughter, Sandra Lipson; a son, Isaac McNeil; a stepson, Tony; two stepdaughters, Deborah Smith, Teresa Brooks; two sisters, Sally Woodson of Holly Springs, Jerlean McNeil of Lexington, Ky.; six stepgrandchildren, three stepgreat-grandchildren;
Pallbearers were Jeremy Bownes, Andrew Collins Jr., Lamonete McNeil, Terry Coleman, Lonnie Buckley and Stacy Huggins. Honorary pallbearers were C.C. Pinson, George Woodson, Min. Robert Woodson, L.A. Dowdy Jr., Roger Woodson and Melvin Buford.
Shirley Ann Lipford McNamee
Shirley Ann Lipford McNamee, 64, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 12, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. She was the widow of Hollis McNamee. She was a retired sales person.
Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 18 at Shiloh MB Church in Ashland. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. L.G. Bogard officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a son, Micheal Ray McNamee of Holly Springs; his stepmother, Becky Harris of Terre Haute, Ind.; five sisters, Stella Cole, Wanda Cole, both of Detroit, Mich, Kathleen Boyd, Florence Powell of Terre Haute, Ind., Verdia Cathey of Ashland; eight brothers, Larry Cole, Dennis Cole, John Cole, Ronnie Cole, Tony Cole, Hollis Cole, all of Detroit, Mich., Herbert Harris of Gary, Ind., George Godwin of Ashland and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Hollis Cole, John Cole, Charlie Baird, David Baird, Ike Gordon and Pierre Baird.
Agnes Buford Pryor
Agnes Buford Pryor of Abbeville died Dec. 11, 2007 at her home. She was a retired nursing assistant.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on Dec. 15 at Springfield MB Church in Abbeville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Terry Malone officiated. Serenity Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her mother, Mattie Mae Terrell of Abbeville; two daughters, Janice Buford of Abbeville, Martha Gwen Streator of Chicago, Ill.; two sons, Lee Buford of Chicago, Stephen Buford of Calif.; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Julia Frances Smith
Julia Frances Smith, 86, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 11, 2007 in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Henry Lester Smith. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Holly Springs, a retired telephone operator with South Central Bell after 32 years and an active employee of Avon for 56 years.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Dec. 15 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Bro. Curtis Ferrell officiated.
She leaves her daughter, Martha and Gary Elliott of Holly Springs; two grandchildren, Gregory and Katie Elliot, and Garrett and Erin Elliott of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Mary Frances Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Kaylan Elliott, Carson Elliott, Karigan Elliott.
She was preceded in death by Clifton and Harry Smith, Mary Ella Barnett and Beatrice Edwards.
Cellistean Pryor Wilkins
Cellistean Pryor Wilkins, 59, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died Dec. 13, 2007 at Baptist Memphis Memorial Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of C.L. Wilkins. She was a member of New Direction Christian Church, Memphis, Tenn. and a retired team leader with Target Department Stores.
Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 18 at Chulahoma MB Church. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two daughters, Tina Johnson, Beverly Wilkins, both of Memphis, Tenn.; her father and mother, Willie Pryor and Ellen D. Scruggs Pryor of Holly Springs; her grandmother, Arlillie Finley of Holly Springs; four sisters, Carolyn Byers of Memphis, Tenn., Brenda Thompson, Bobbie Thompson, both of Waterford, Mattie Scruggs of Holly Springs; two brothers, Willie Lee Pryor of Holly Springs, Curtis Pryor of Ridgeland; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers were John Thompson, T.J. Thompson, Gregory Thompson, Clifton Thompson, Eric Wilson, Marquezzo Pryor, Kenneth Bunch and Levelle Pryor. Honorary pallbearers were Willie Lee Pryor, Curtis Pryor and Milton Wilkins.
