Willie Pearl Rogers

Willie Pearl Rogers, 66, of New Albany, died Nov. 20, 2007 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 24 at Pleasant Grove MB Church in New Albany. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery. Rev. Thomas Wilson officiated. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, James (Billy) Rogers; her mother, O’Kattie Barker-Crockett of New Albany; three sons, Reginald Miller, Elijah Russell, both of Tupelo, Kenney Russell of Powder Springs, Ga.; a brother, Rev. Luther Barker of New Albany; a sister, Alfreda Barker of New Albany; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were her nephews.

James Earl Turnage

James Earl (Big Red) Turnage, 56, of Potts Camp, died Nov. 23, 2007 at Grenada Lakes Medical Center in Grenada. He was a member of the male chorus, a machine operator with Wurlitzer of Holly Springs and Hill Craft of New Albany.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 28 at Reid’s Gift MB Church in Potts Camp, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. L.G. Bogard officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Shelia Rucker Turnage; a daughter, Melissa Ann Turnage of Hickory Flat; two sons, David Turnage of Potts Camp, Jonathan Traylor of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Juanita Dillard of Potts Camp; a brother Frank Turnage Jr. of Potts Camp; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Turnage Sr.; his mother, Willie Earl Miller; a sister, Linda (Dianne) Rucker; and a brother, C.W. Turnage.

Elton Dwayne Hughes

Elton Dwayne Hughes, 29, of Holly Springs, died July 19, 2011, in Byhalia.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on July 23 at Smith Grove MB Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Willie C. Conner officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his children, Cassidy Hughes, Layina Armstrong, both of Holly Springs; his mother, Margie Ann King of Holly Springs; his father, Elton D. Hughes of Houston, Tx.; his grandmother, Lillie B. Hughes of Ingrams Mill; a sister, Kierra Greer of Holly Springs; and two brothers, Christopher Hughes of Byhalia, Austin Hughes of Houston, Tx.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Hayden Hughes, Oplis King and Naomi Lester King.

Mervin Lewis Jones

Mervin Lewis Jones, 51, of North Miami Beach, Fla., formerly of Holly Springs, died June 25, 2011, at his home. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a security guard.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 23 at J.F. Brittenum Funeral Chapel, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. R.J. Wilson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a son, Maceo Antron Jones of Miami, Fla.; a daughter, Tasha Jones of Memphis, Tenn.; his mother, Mae Frances Jones of Memphis; four sisters, Sherry J. Miller of Louisville, Ky., Mamie Jean Jeffries of Holly Springs, Frances Lee Cox of Memphis, Glinnie M. Collins of Potts Camp; five brothers, James L. Jones, Royster Jones Jr. of Memphis, Kerry D. Jones of Las Vegas, Nev., Eddie S. Jones, Thomas Earl Jones of Memphis; and two grandchildren.

Elmo Lyles

Elmo “Cool Man” Lyles, 80, of Holly Springs, died July 20, 2011, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. He was the widower of Fannie Mae Waller Lyles. He was a self-employed cafe owner.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on July 27 at New Dimension Salt and Light Ministries. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Elder Octavatis Allen will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two sons, Elmore Campbell, Willie Campbell, both of Holly Springs; nine daughters, Lillian Ann Sigman of Ashland, Lucille Miles, Tamille Lyles, both of Memphis, Tenn., Laura Francie Campbell of Flint, Mich., Sherry Wicks of Atlanta, Ga., LaTonya Wicks of Jonesboro, Ark., Rochelle Lyles, Lisa Porter, Shoney Porter, all of Holly Springs; a sister, Flossie Lee Woodson of Holly Springs; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by children Yvonne Morgan and Johnny Lyles.

Ezra Hayden McDonald

Ezra Hayden McDonald, 87, of Ashland, died July 23, 2011, at Tippah County Nursing Home in Ripley. He was the widower of Mary Etta Brown McDonald, a member of Liberty United Methodist Church and a retired maintenance worker with Cedar Mills Apartments.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on July 25 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery. Rev. William Kemp officiated.

He leaves a son, Charles McDonald (Lois) of Ashland; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Twala Coomer

Pallbearers were Tim Burns, Rocky Miller, Larry Roberson, John McKaughn, Garry Jordan and Don Bruner.

Walter Henry Norman

Walter Henry Norman, 72, died July 15, 2011. He professed his life to Christ at an early age at Mt. Newell MB Church in Red Banks. He was a member of the male chorus.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Rutha Norman; six children, Doris Jones (Charles) of Red Banks, Melvin Norman (Latrina) of Byhalia, Frances Norman, Sandra Norman, Malcom Norman and Mitchell Norman, all of Victoria; three brothers, Henry Norman (Helen), David Norman of Aurora, Ill., Robert Norman (Louvonnia) of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Louise Jones, Linda Dawkins, both of Chicago, Ill., Lydia Falkner of Memphis; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 23, 2011, at Mt. Newell MB Church in Red Banks. Rev. Thurman Norman, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Reginal Falkner, Terrance Rayford, Clerence Bobo, Alvin Hardaway, Daryl Falkner, Corey Jones and Phlander Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Norman, Malcolm Norman, Zacarian Norman, Rynaldo Norman and Ronnie Norman.

Marie N. Queen

Marie N. Queen, 88, of Hickory Flat, died July 22, 2011, at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 24 at Hickory Flat United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in McKay Cemetery. Bro. Brownie Tohill and Bro. Joe Caruthers officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a granddaughter, Samantha Potts of Hickory Flat; and great-grandchildren Ethan and Megan Potts of Hickory Flat.
