Levora Pegues Jeffries
Levora Pegues Jeffries, 85, of Greensboro, Nouth Carolina, formerly of Holly Springs and Aurora, Ill., died Feb. 4 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. The widow of Marion Jeffries, she was a lifelong Christian and a member of Calvin Chapel United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held Feb. 11 from 3-8 p.m. at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home; the family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue Feb. 12 from 11-11:55 a.m. at Anderson Chapel CME Church. Services will be held 12 noon on Feb. 12, at Anderson Chapel Church. Rev. Denise Anders Modest, host pastor; Rev. Ed Moses, officiating and Rev. F.H. Brown of Columbus will be the eulogist. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She leaves six sons, Robert Jeffries of Lansing, Mich., Joe Jeffries, Oscar Jeffries, both of Aurora, Waymon Jeffries of Montgomery, Ill., Edward Jeffries, Randall Jeffries, both of Yorkville, Ill.; five daughters, Vernolia Oliver, Margaret Glover, both of Aurora, Lorain Martin of Lansing, Luella Harris of Carol Stream, Ill., Cynthia Jeffries of Greensboro; a sister, Fannie Mae Barksdale of Holly Springs; a brother, Autry Pegues of Detroit, Mich.; 35 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Clelloyd Jeffries, a daughter-in-law, Virginia Jeffries, and a grandson, Montrell Fluellen.
Genola Delbridge Sanders
Genola Delbridge Sanders, 90, of Hickory Flat, died Feb. 3, 2010, at her home. The widow of Woodrow Sanders, she was a member of Free Branch MB Church in Holly Springs.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 7 at Royston Chapel CME Church in Benton County. Burial was in Free Branch Cemetery in Holly Springs. Rev. Lee Gill officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves four daughters, Allene Cowan of Ripley, Reola Thomas of Grand Rapids, Mich., Birdie Rutherford, Jewel Garner, both of Hickory Flat; two sons, Robert Sanders, James Sanders, both of Grand Rapids; seven sisters, Roberta Mullins of Potts Camp, Carrie Williams of Memphis, Tenn., Birdie Johnson, Maggie Delbridge, Josephine Delbridge, all of Abbeville, Sandy Fay Lee of Clarksdale, Novella Marion of Waterford; five brothers, Eligah Delbridge of Waterford, Ollie Delbridge, B.J. Delbridge, Eugene Goolsby, all of Grand Rapids, Stanley Delbridge of Jackson, Tenn.; 26 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, John Sanders and Jimmy Sanders.
Pallbearers were Ronald Garner, Ricky Garner, Randy Garner, Jeffrey Evans, Tracy Nickson, Robert Thomas Jr., Reginald Garner, Chris Nickson. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Sanders, James Sanders, Jessie Garner, Charles Cowan, Cedric Cowan, Gallardo Cowan and Robert Thomas.
Nylene Laverne Taylor
Nylene Laverne Tayor, 79, of Potts Camp, died Feb. 5, 2010 at the Medical Center in Tupelo. She was the widow of Fred Taylor and a member of Temperance Hill Baptist Church.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 7 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Temperance Hill Cemetery. Bro. Ken Cooper and Bro. Stanley Huddleston officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a son, Mark Taylor of Ripley; two daughters, Gail McCraw, Diane Clayton, both of Potts Camp; two brothers, Lester Brisco of Southaven, Roger Brisco of Holly Springs; two sisters, Lenora Clifton of Walls, Jeanette Lancaster of Jackson, Tenn.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Allen Taylor.
David Eugene Bowien
David Eugene Bowien, 77, of Potts Camp, died Jan. 29, 2010. He retired from All South Subcontractors of Birmingham, Ala., as supervisor.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 2 at Temperance Hill Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Ken Cooper officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife of 35 years, Ruth Sims Bowien; two sons, Terry Bowien of Birmingham, Ala., John David Bowien of Choctaw, Okla.; two daughters, Kathy Burchette of Sanford, N.C., Debbie Ragsdale of Graysville, Ala.; stepchildren, Teresa Byrd, Gary Cotton, both of Potts Camp, Brenda Lyons of Gulfport; his brother, James Bowien of Nacoma Park, Okla.; two sisters, Retha Dugger of McCloud, Okla., Sharon Babb of Livingston, Tx.; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Monroe Bowien; and his sister, Dolores King.
Lester Childress
Lester Childress, 74, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 24, 2010 at Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. He was a retired machine operator with Neil Bain Construction Company.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 30 at Adolphus Chapel CME Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Willie Hoey officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a son, Jake Childress of Holly Springs; four sisters, Melinda Hughes, Leathy Taylor, Lucille Harris, Beatrice Robinson, all of Holly Springs; three brothers, Willie B. Childress of Memphis, Tenn., Louis Childress of Aurora, Ill., George Childress of Waynesville, Mo.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Roderick Burgess, Price Burgess Sr., Larry Nunnally, Michael Taylor, Ossie Taylor and James Lawson. Honorary pallbearers were Willie B. Childress, Louis Childress, George Childress, Nathan Hughes, Lee Edward Kinard and Jessie Harris.
Earl Carpenter Jr.
Earl Carpenter Jr., 82, died Jan. 30, 2010.
Services were held Feb. 3 at Nettleton Baptist Church. Dr. Stan Ballard officiated. Burial was in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Greggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Edythe M. Carpenter; his son, Daniel L. and Linda Carpenter of Holly Springs; his daughter, Donna and Ron Allely of Chatham, Ontario; a sister, Sara Christian; brothers Roy and John Paul Carpenter of Holly Springs, Ronnie Carpenter of Millington, Tenn.; granddaughter Penny and Bob Lomenick of Potts Camp; two great-grandchildren, Erin and Eli Lomenick
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Hugh (Jim) Carpenter of Holly Springs.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Crisp, Teddy Todd, Roy Carpenter, Ronnie Carpenter, Kenneth Carpenter and Brad Carpenter.
Clyde Earl Gandy
Clyde Earl Gandy, 85, of Olive Branch, died Jan. 31, 2010. He was a Baptist, a laborer with Mohasco Furniture Co. and a veteran.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Feb. 3 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Chewalla Cemetery in Potts Camp.
He leaves four daughters, Louise L. Fisher of Memphis, Tenn.; Regena Reihl, Gale McDonald, Pam McCullough, all of Olive Branch; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Glenn Henry Roberts
Glenn Henry Roberts, 57, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 31, 2010 at Trinity Mission. He was a painter.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 6 at Heritage Apostolic Church, where he was a member. Bro. Tony Roberts will officiate. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two sons, Jason Wright, Allen Wright, both of Memphis, Tenn.; his daughter, Carrie Wright of Texas; three brothers, Timothy Roberts of Red Banks, Ronnie Roberts of Memphis, Tenn., Eugene Roberts of Hardy, Ark.; three sisters, Nancy Webster of Red Banks, Susan Kelly of Memphis, Tenn., Tammy Alred of Springfield, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
