Louvenia Smith
Louvenia “Bone” Smith, 56, of Red Banks, died July 14, 2015, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was employed by Martin Construction. She was a former employee for many years with Cartwright Nursery.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 25 at Berachah Ministries Church of God in Christ. Burial was in Berachah Ministries COGIC Cemetery. Pastor Gary Young officiated. Serenity-Autry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her mother, Julia Bady of Red Banks; a son, Cedric Lee Bady of Red Banks; two daughters, Geneva Smith of Memphis, Sandra Bady of Holly Springs; six brothers, Terry Bady, Lugene Martin of Memphis, Columbus Martin of Abbeville, Oscar Bady, Robert Bady Jr., both of Red Banks, Jimmy Lee Martin of Jackson, Mich.; five sisters, Mary Elizabeth Bady, Patricia Bady, Carrie Lenora Bady, all of Red Banks, Caroline Pruitt, Inedia Morris, both of Memphis; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Lee Smith Jr.; two brothers, Grant Lee Lanely, and Willie Martin.
Pallbearers were Anthony Wells, Michael Wells, Darius Wells, Detrick Wells, Marco Watson and Marcus Moffit. Honorary pallbearers were Contello Norfleet, Tedrick Wells, Keithon Lensey, Brandon Smith, Santez Bogard and Craig Howard.
Bobbie Ellis Falkner Jr.
Bobbie Ellis Falkner Jr., 74, of Flossmoor, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs, died June 30, 2015, in Chicago Heights, Ill.
Bobbie grew up on the Falkner Farm in Holly Springs. He attended Mt. Gilead School in the Chulahoma community and Rosenwald High School in Holly Springs.
Bobbie worked in the Bumper Plating Distribution in Chicago, Ill., for six years. He was an entrepreneur. He started his own company, Falkner Bumpers, which became the number one plating bumper company in Illinois. Later he founded and started Harvey Chrysler Plymouth in Harvey, Ill., which would also become the No. 1 minority owned Chrysler Plymouth dealership in the state of Illinois. Through his business interests, he employed hundreds of people. (Several were from the Holly Springs community.)
Services were held on July 11, 2015, at Holy Temple Cathedral Church of God in Christ in Harvey, Ill. Pastor David J. Bunch officiated.
Bobbie was preceded in death by his parents, Bobbie Ellis and Mattie Ella Falkner; three brothers, Edgar, Moses and Larry Falkner.
He leaves a devoted wife, Mary; eight children, Carolyn Cole (Timothy), Belgee Falkner (Celeste), Everlyn Stephens (Quentin), Lonna Lockett (Vincent), Tonia Falkner, Bobbie Falkner III (Shanae), Kelly Falkner and Clarissa Falkner; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Gladys Young of Chicago Ill., Bobra Walker (Landon), of Hazel Crest, Ill., Mattie Walker, Urma Walker (McEwen), Ella Washington, Wheelock Patrick, all of Holly Springs, and Sarah Summerville of Arlington, Va.; and one brother Kent Falkner (Jackie) of Holly Springs;
Frank Bolden
Frank Bolden, 72, of Ashland, died July 19, 2015, at his home. He was a member of Berries Chapel CME Church in Michigan City and a retired truck driver with Oil Dri of New Albany.
A memorial service will be announced at a later time. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Lutresia Cole Bolden; five daughters, Brenda Bolden-Snow of Holly Springs, Penny Bolden of Ashland, Christine Bolden Watson of New Albany, Lisa Bolden of Hickory Flat, Hellon Craig of Memphis, Tenn.; five sons, Frank Bolden Jr. of Memphis, Mark Bolden of Falkner, Jarvis Craig of Holly Springs, L.B. Craig of Memphis, Willie Jr. Craig of Clarksville, Tenn.; four brothers, James Craig of Michigan City, Joe Craig, Charles Edward Craig of Holly Springs, Willie Craig of Mt. Pleasant; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Wanda Joyce Boswell
Wanda Joyce Boswell, 71, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 29, 2014, at Trinity Missions. She was the widow of Jesse Boswell Sr., a member of Slayden Baptist and employed with Tupperware Warehouse.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 6 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Boswell Cemetery in Slayden.
She leaves two sons, Jesse Boswell Jr. of Slayden, Raymond Boswell of Mt. Pleasant; her daughter, Katie Perry of Mt. Pleasant; her brother, Kerry Murphy of Jefferson, Ore.; her sister, Peggy Melton of Johnson, Ark.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Phillip Eugene Cox
Phillip Eugene Cox, 52, of New Albany, died Dec. 1, 2014, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He served in the National Guard six years and worked at Carquest Auto Parts Store before he became disabled three years ago.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 3 at Temperance Hill Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Jimmy Wilbanks officiated. Serenity-Autry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his mother, Jean (Bill) Pollard; two sons, Chad (Amelia) Cox of Cordova, Tenn., Trent Cox of Hickory Flat; two sisters, Melody (Lonnie) Cook, Cindy (Gerald) Roberts of New Albany; two brothers, Kenneth (Barbara) Cox, Cliff Cox, both of New Albany; and two grandchildren.
Albert Franklin
Albert “June” Franklin, 69, died Nov. 27, 2014. He was a former truck driver for Coca-Cola for more than 30 years, a truck driver for Pepsi and Budweiser for seven years. He attended Sand Flat High School.
Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 6 at New Stinson Community Church, Rossville, Tenn. Burial was in Charity Garden Cemetery in Rossville. Rev. David Franklin officiated. Serenity-Autry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his children, Aretha Franklin Pritchard (Keith), Cedric Franklin; seven siblings, Stella Jones, Hudy L. Franklin Jr., David Franklin, Vernida Franklin, Kenny Franklin, Sheila Ingram and Frances Franklin; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were William “Scottie” Moore, Tracy Reynolds, Oscar Moore, John Lee Franklin, Darron Smith, Tavarese Jordan and James Franklin.
Henry Johnson
Henry Johnson, 77, died Dec. 1, 2014.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 6 at Smith Grove MB Church. Rev. Glen Johnson officiated. He attended New Prosperity MB Church of Greenville. He moved to Seattle, Wash., in 1960, where he worked as a construction worker for several years. After retirement, he moved back to Mississippi, where he resided for more than 20 years.
He leaves his wife of 37 years, Annette Johnson; his children, Jackie Simon of Holly Springs, Bernice Barnes of Memphis, Tenn., Patricia Simon of Kent., Wash., Earnestine Wilson of Seattle, Shirley Jean Cannady of Kent, Linder Johnson of Kent, Faye Johnson of Seattle, Henry Johnson Jr. of Etoy, Ariz.; five brothers, Willie Johnson of Seattle, Joseph Johnson of Detroit, Mich., James Johnson of Greenville, Andrew Johnson of Detroit, Leevester Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters Junita Perkins of Akron, Ohio, Earnestine Fauller of Cleveland, Tommie Jean Andrews of Greenville, Queester Johnson, Romella Denson, all of Greenville; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Anthony Simon, Earl Anderson, Antawne Lester, Morris Anderson, Leonard Fields and Loren Coleman. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Coleman Jr. and Emmanuel Johnson.
He was preceded in death by a son, Nathaniel Simon.
Lonza Lee Jones Jr.
Lonza Lee Jones Jr., 98, of Byhalia, died Dec. 5, 2014, at his home. He was the widower of Ronle Benson Jones. He was a Sunday school superintendent, class leader, steward, trustee, Boy Scout leader, member of NAACP and United League of Marshall County. He was a retired farmer and factory worker.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 14 at Newell Chapel CME Church in Victoria, where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Q.H. Whitlock Jr. will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves three daughters, Janie Yarbrough of Chicago, Ill., Earnestine Jones of Oak Park, Ill., Katie M. Jones, all of Byhalia; four sons, Alonzo (Cora) Jones, Robert Jones, Frank (Earnestine) Jones, all of Byhalia, Emmitt (Constance) Jones of Newark, N.J.; two daughters-in-law, Marion H. Jones and Geraldine Jones, both of Houma, La.; 35 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three children, Ray Lee Jones, Gorden Jones and Blanchie Jones.
