J.D. McGaughy
J.D. McGaughy, 71, of Marshall County, died March 15, 2015. He worked in the cotton industry for many years and with numerous pulpwood companies.
Services were held at 12 noon on March 21 at Sims Chapel MB Church, Michigan City. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pastor Elvis M. White officiated. Serenity-Autry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves five brothers, John Henry McGaughy Sr., of Byhalia, John Lee McGaughy of Holly Springs, Sam McGaughy of Lamar, Curtis McGaughy, Daniel McGaughy, both of Memphis, Tenn.; seven sisters, Geneva Turner, Ruthie Lee Hampton of Holly Springs, Bertha Richmond of Memphis, Annie (Tommy) Lensey of Lamar, Nancy Luellen of Cayce, Irene McGaughy of Olive Branch, Lurlean Tate of Rossville, Tenn.
Pallbearers were Daniel Rodgers, Melvin Mitchell, James Gatewood, Kevin Woodard, Joseph Woodard, Donteal Rose, Winston Woodard, Jerohon Washington, Keath Gatewood, Jarvis Washington.
Evelyn Howell
Evelyn Howell, 76, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 24, 2015, at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab. She was a member of her church’s missionary society.
Visitation will be Jan. 28 from 1-5:30 p.m. at the funeral home and Jan. 29 from 10-10:55 a.m. at the church.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 29 at Strawberry MB Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Dr. Rev. Curlie Reliford will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two sisters, Lugusta Jennings of Mt. Clemen, Mich., Emma Howell of Holly Springs.
She was preceded in death by five siblings, Clarise H. Leatherwood, Bessie Mae Howell, Brodie Howell, James E. Howell and Monroe Howell Jr.
Lisa Wells Holloway
Lisa Wells Holloway, 48, of Mt. Pleasant, died Jan. 21, 2015, in Mt. Pleasant. She was a member of Forest Hill Church of Christ in Memphis, Tenn., and a secretary in the medical field.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 26 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Barry Grider officiated.
She leaves her daughter, Sarah Holloway of Mt. Pleasant; her mother, Jeanne Wells of Greenwood; her brother, Paul Wells IV of Greenwood, and her mother-in-law, Winnie Holloway of Mt. Pleasant.
Ella Wea Frost Isom
Ella Wea Frost Isom, 66, of Potts Camp, died Jan. 21, 2015, at her home. She was the widow of Ralph Doxey Isom. She was a member of Baptist Hill MB Church, a former member of the Order of Eastern Star and a former factory worker with Sunbeam of Holly Springs.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 25 at Potts Camp High School Gymnasium. Burial was in Mt. Ollie MB Church in Potts Camp. Rev. Anthony Marion officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves five daughters, Causby Marie Sharp, Diana Frost Richmond, Carolyn Isom, Vickey Spencer, Vivian Isom, all of Potts Camp; two sons, Eric LaKeith Isom, Randy Isom, both of Potts Camp; her mother, Canarania Love of Potts Camp; three sisters, Eppa Carruthers, Nellie Sharp of Potts Camp, Christy Love of Yazoo City; a brother, Arthur Love Jr. of Potts Camp; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Ilean Lewis
Ilean “Minnie” Lewis, 76, formerly of Lagrange, Tenn., died Jan. 15, 2015. She was a member of Greenwood Eastern Star Lodge 58A-Capitol.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 24 at Sims Chapel MB Church in Michican City, where she was a member and former usher. Rev. Elvis White, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She leaves two children, Calvin Lewis of Olive Branch, Beatrice Lewis Shelton (Joe) of Michigan City; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Jonathan Lewis, Kelvin Thompson, William Beck, Joshua Jones and Jermaine Seal. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Shelton, Quordevin Thompson, James Shelton, Marvin Walls, Tilma Hampton and Tony Gorman.
Ronnie Lewis
Ronnie Lewis, 66, of Potts Camp, died Jan. 19, 2015, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and retired from Mississippi Department of Human Services.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 23 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Butler Cemetery in Potts Camp.
He leaves his wife, Shelia Lewis; his brother, Martin Samuel Lewis of Ashland; his sister, Gayle Jordan (David) of Ashland, five nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Jean Lewis, Nancy Rhew; a brother-in-law, Joe Rhew; and nephews Michael Rhew and Chad Duncan.
Billy Elliott
Billy Elliott, 74, of Ashland, died Friday, August 1, 2008 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a member of Bluff Springs Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He was a retired supervisor for Southern Brick and Holly Springs Brick & Tile.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 3 at Bluff Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Ed McCafferty and Bro. Faron Ash officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
He leaves his wife, Bobbie Elliott of Ashland; three daughters, Sandra Towery, Shelia Farris, both of Ripley, Sharon Matlock of Hickory Flat; three sons Stanley Elliott of New Albany, Christopher Elliott of Ashland, Nickey Elliott of Ashland; two sisters, Alice West of Ashland, and Patsy Bolden of Holly Springs; two brothers, M.C. Elliott Jr. of Holly Springs, and Roger Elliott of Potts Camp; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Shane Elliott, Heath Elliott, Tommy Towery, Mitch Farris, Cody Matlock and Austin Matlock. Honorary pallbearers were Dustin Matlock, Scott Mansel, Paul Gray and Harold Holman.
Ruby L. McGowan Davis
Ruby L. McGowan Davis, 83, of Holly Springs, died July 28, 2008 at her home in the Lake Center Community. She was the widow of James Franklin Davis; a longtime member of Calvin Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served as former president of the usher board and member of United Methodist Women; and a retired cook for the Holly Springs Separate School District.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 2 at Anderson Chapel CME Church. Burial was in Charity Hill Cemetery, Lake Center Community. Rev. Edward Charles Moses officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves five daughters, Josephine Bisch of Decatur, Ill., Catherine Jefferson, Dorothy McGowan, Jacqueline Walker, Priscilla Jackson, all of Holly Springs; two sons, Burt L. Davis of Aurora, Ill., Turl Davis of Holly Springs; 22 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three children, Frank Edward Davis, Ira Blane Davis, Jane Ella Boga.
Pallbearers were Frazier Davis, Lonnie Boga Jr., Alonzo Davis, Tyrone Rucker, Jermaine Walker and Burt Davis Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Burt Davis, Turl Davis, Jawan White, Curtis Jefferson Jr., Eddie Jefferson, Joe Dunlap and Lonnie Boga Sr.
