Dorothy Jean Thompson Walton
Dorothy Jean Thompson Walton, 67, of Holly Springs, died April 18, 208 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto in Southaven. She was the widow of Lawrence Walton. She was a member of the church choir and a church treasurer. She was a day-care provider.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 26 at Hopewell No. 1 MB Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Leroy James officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves three daughters, Cora Walton, Renee Taylor, Debbie Walker, all of Holly Springs; a son, Robert Walton of Memphis, Tenn.; seven sisters, Doris Reed, Sandra Woods, Flossie Woodson, all of Holly Springs, Sarah Woods of Hickory Flat, Shirley Cathey, Margaret Woods, both of Memphis, Tenn., Carol Rooks of Pearl; four brothers, Herman Woods of Holly Springs, Eddie Woods of North Carolina, Clarence Woods of New Albany, Albert Woods of Hickory Flat; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marquette Walton.
Pallbearers were Marvin Walton, Dayton Reed, Robert Woods, Jerry Reed, Calvin Woods and Herbert Walton. Honorary pallbearers were Herman Woods, Clarence Woods, Michael Taylor, Kinnard Walton, Eddie Woods, Albert Woods, Cleroy Moton and Dewitt Walton.
Claude Leroy Whitaker Jr.
Claude Leroy (Jack) Whitaker Jr., 69, of Holly Springs, formerly of Memphis, Tenn., died April 18, 2008.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
He leaves his wife of 44 years, Lottie Whitaker; daughter, Darlene (Dixie) Bland of Wood River; son, Gary Whitaker of Holly Springs; daughter, Antonina (Nina) Kellon of Horn Lake; son, Paul Whitaker of Lake Cormorant; four brothers and six sisters, Yvonne Stevens of Santa Cruz, Calif., Charles Whitaker of Mountain Home, Ark., Marie Manning of Poagville, Paulette Spencer, of Horn Lake, James Taylor of Victoria, Vanessa Kelley of Millington, Tenn., Larry Taylor of Wolf City, Tx., Maria Hood of Bett, Mark Whitaker of Independence, Claudette Markwell of Coldwater; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth Glyn Wood
Elizabeth Glyn Wood, 82, of Byhalia, died April 21, 2008 at her home. She was retired from Schering-Plough and was a long-time member of Byhalia Presbyterian Church.
She leaves her husband, Coley Wood; a daughter, Glyn Kuhling of Snellville, Ga.; a son, Ron Wood of Millington, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on April 25 at Brantley Funeral Home Chapel in Olive Branch. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Alwita Joyce Gadd.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Byhalia Presbyterian Church.
Cecil Charles Ash
Cecil Charles Ash, 76, of Arlington, Tenn., formerly of Potts Camp, died Feb. 28, 2008 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was the widower of Bobbie Nell Ash. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Christ Apostolic Church and a lumber machine molder.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 4 at Blue Mountain Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Bro. Dwayne Herring and Bro. Joe McKnight officiated. Burial was in Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Pinedale. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves three sons, Charles E. Ash, Ronald T. Ash, both of Arlington, Cecil D. Ash of Memphis, Tenn.; four sisters, Sidney Pipkin of Blue Mountain, Irene Lawrence of Holly Springs, Charlene McGill of New Albany, Christine Hatchett of Waterford; and five grandchildren.
Caracus Burdette
Caracus Burdette, 21, of Detroit, Mich., formerly of Senatobia, died Feb. 20, 2008 in Detroit. He was a student.
Services will be held at 12 noon on March 8 at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Burial will be in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his mother and father, Vera Burdette and John Keys of Pontiac, Mich.; three brothers, Trenton Avant, Johnaquin Keyes, Cordero Avant, all of Pontiac, Mich.; grandparents, Clara Clark and Wendle Clark of Coldwater, Matilda Keys and Eugene Keys of Sardis and grandparent, Ira Burdette of Sardis.
Mack Campbell
Mack Campbell, 63, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Lamar, died Feb. 21, 2008 at Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. He moved to Chicago, Ill. in the early 1970s; he moved back to Holly Springs this year.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 1 at Reid’s Gift MB Church in Potts Camp. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Jerry Lee Williams officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a son, Gervase Young of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Jessie Campbell of Holly Springs, Thomas Campbell of Chicago; two sisters, Lurlean Luellen of Holly Springs, Willie Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; and his caregiver, Lovie Dudley of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by a brother, L.B. Campbell.
Pallbearers were Chris Buford, James Dillard Jr., Ronnie Luellen, Brinkley Taylor, Ozell Hampton Sr., Torrey Hardin, Charles Rucker and David Turnage.
William Lee Crane
William Lee (Daddy Will) Crane, 85, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 27, 2008 at Alliance HealthCare System. He was the widower of Lorine Lawrence Crane. He was a World War II veteran.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. on March 1 at Finley Grove MB Church, where he was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. James Green officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves four daughters, Marcella Martin, Deloriese Stephenson, Sandra Crane, all of Holly Springs, Shelia Quashie of Clinton, Maryland; two sons, William Crane Jr. of Holly Springs, Rickey Crane of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Bessie Cowan, Emma Hall, both of Holly Springs, Annie Mae Cowan of Memphis, Tenn.; three brothers, Calvin Crane Jr., Elree Crane, Sr., Lilton Crane Sr., all of Holly Springs; 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Larry Rankins, Michael Cowean, Elree Crane Jr., Larry Payne, Antonio Lawrence and Bobby Lawrence. Honorary pallbearers were William Crane Jr., Rickey Crane, Terry Lawrence, Sedrick Crane, Gerald Lawrence and Earl Stephenson.
Donald Keith Ezell Jr.
Donald Keith Ezell Jr., 44, of Jackson, Tenn., died March 2, 2008 at his home. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and employed in fire protection.
Services will be held at 6 p.m. on March 7 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
He leaves his wife, Janice Ezell; a son, D.J. Wilkerson of Oxford; a daughter, Catherine Pruitt of Jackson, Tenn.; his mother, Dereen Ezell of Byhalia; and a sister, Mary Cook of Cordova, Tenn.
