Mattie Mae Jones Smith
Mattie Mae Jones Smith, 56, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 22, 2008 at her home. She was the widow of Albert Smith.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on March 1 at Isom Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe T. Lester officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Yolanda Michelle Gipson of Duluth, Ga.; a son, Ferdinand Durrell Gipson of Schererville, Ind.; three sisters, Idirla Coleman of Memphis, Tenn., Nellie Pointer of Holly Springs, Glennie Dennis of St. Paul, Minn.; a brother, Fonzie Jones of Omaha, Neb.; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Vincent Coleman, Terrence Coleman, Antonio Coleman, Dant’E Gipson, Larry Pointer Jr., Jeremy Pointer and Willie Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Keith Jones, Lee Jones, A.T. Coleman, Robert Troy Dennis and Tony Jones.
John David Tice Jr.
John David Tice Jr., 62, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 27, 2008 at his home. He was a member of the Assembly of God, a water technician with Holly Springs and a U.S. National Guard veteran.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 1 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
He leaves his wife, Deborah Tice; his mother, Avis Tice of Holly Springs; two sons, Tracy Lee Tice of Hamilton, Ala., Jerry Joyner of Southaven; a brother, Daryl Tice of Holly Springs; and four grandchildren.
Mary Louise Walker
Mary Louise Walker, 88, of Jackson, died Feb. 3, 2008 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. A graduate of New Albany High School, she continued her education in junior college in Memphis. During World War II, she worked in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, Penn., for the War Department in the Lend-Lease program. She was a member of Columbia Heights Baptist Church in Jackson.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 6 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Ridgeland. Burial was in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
She leaves her husband, William H. Walker, a native of Holly Springs; four sons, William Henry Walker Jr. of Jackson, Robert Homer Walker of Jackson, Andrew Cline Walker of Madison, Paul Guyton Walker of Houston, Tx.; a brother, Homer Wade Whitten of Pensacola, Fla.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Adrian Whitten, and sister, Birdie Mae Stonestreet.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Colonial Heights Baptist Church, 444 Northpark Drive, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
Marjorie Clark Lee Berry
Marjorie Clark Lee Berry, 68, of Clarksville, Ind., formerly of Oxford, died March 14, 2007 at her home.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 24 at Harrisonville M.B. Church in Oxford. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Booker T. Campbell, pastor, officiated. Serenity Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves three daughters, Anne Lee of Oxford, Dorothy Lee, Sheila Berry, both of New Albany, Ind.; three sons, Fredrick M. Lee, Desi Berry, John L. Berry, all of New Albany, Ind.; a stepson, Tuyu Redd; a brother, Robert James Clark; 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were sons and grandsons.
Charles Brigance
Charles Brigance, 66, of Byhalia, died March 20, 2007 at Baptist Hospital Desoto-Southaven. He was a heavy equipment operator for Marshall County.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 22 at the family’s residence. Burial was in John K. Skelton Cemetery in Lamar. Bro. Frank Feathers officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his ex-wife, Connie Brigance of Lamar; two sons, Timothy Brigance of Pheba, Kenneth Brigance of Lamar; a daughter, Julie Brigance of Barton; seven brothers, Bobby Card, Neil Brigance, Columbus Brigance, all of Barton, J.C. Cleave Mae Phillips Eason, 68, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Byhalia, died March 15, 2007 at Baptist Hospital in Collierville, Tenn. She was the widow of Walter Eason.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 24 at Union Valley MB Church in Byhalia, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two daughters, Gloria Eason Jones, Dianne Eason, both of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons, Jackie Martin of Byhalia, David Martin of Memphis, Fred Eason of Milwaukee, Wisc.; her mother, Cleo Phillips of Byhalia; six sisters, Bernell Nailor of Memphis, Juanita Street, Maxine McClarty, Martha J. Phillips, Carol Lawson, Mary Tunstall, all of Byhalia; three brothers, M.L. Phillips, Earnest Phillips, both of Byhalia, Robert James Phillips of Aurora, Ill.; a grandson whom she reared as her own, Kevin Williams of Memphis; and eight other grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Derrick Phillips, David Lee McClarty, Keon Phillips, Eddie Floyd Rayford, Jerome Street, Marshall Lawson, Alex McClarty and Garry Tunstall.
Larry E. Falkner
Larry E. Falkner, 53, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs, died March 17, 2007 at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Ill. He was with the family company, Falkner Bumper Service and a musician.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 24 at Mt. Gilead CME Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Charles Richmond officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two daughters, Timara Rembert of Columbus, Ga., Neva Falkner of Washington, DC.; a son, Larry Falkner Jr. of Chicago, Ill.; seven sisters, Gladys Young of Chicago, Mattie Walker, Urma Walker, both of Holly Springs, Bobra Walker, Wheelock Patrick, both of Harvey, Ill., Ella Washington of Memphis, Tenn., Sarah Summerville of Arlington, Va.; and four grandchildren.

Harvey Eugene Holloway, 28, of Lamar, died March 15, 2007 in Lamar. He was a member of Royston Chapel Church in Ashland.

He leaves his wife, Belinda Holloway; his mother and stepfather, Jualdine and David Hudson of Holly Springs; his father, who raised him as his own, Harvey Strickland of Ashland; two step-children, Tyshika and Hakeen Judge of Holly Springs; six sisters, Charlotte Boyd of Hickory Flat, LaTasha Holloway, Tracie Bell, Panatia Evans, Asanta Finley, Crystal Boxley, all of Holly Springs; two brothers, Christopher Holloway of Oxford, Kelvin Holloway of Mayerville; grandparents, Renell Holloway of Holly Springs, Cora M. Boxley of Red Bank; three stepbrothers, Jerry Strickland, Shawn Hudson, Kelvin Strickland; two stepsisters, Katherine William and Luvenia Terry; and his stepmother who raised him, Lizze Strickland of Ashland.

Noland B. King Jr., 81, of Byhalia, died March 24, 2006 at his home. He was retired from Malone and Hyde Food Service and was a member of Barton United Methodist Church.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 26 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Emogene P. King.
