Phillip Robbin
Phillip Robbin, 81, of Holly Springs, died June 4, 2009 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was born in Suriname, South America. He was employed with the American Bauxite Company ALCOA, where he worked approximately 15 years prompting his immigration to the U.S., where he was granted citizenship in 1985, worked as a correctional officer at Marshall County Correctional Facility. He attained his GED at the age of 73, making headlines in The South Reporter.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 11 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Father Leonard Elder officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Leslie Robbin; two brothers, Emile and Willie Dissels of Suriname; a sister, Caroline Secca-Dissels of Suriname; children, Ros’Amund of Georgia, Maurice of Louisiana, Neville, Nigel and Neil of Illinois, Tanwya and Travis; and 10 grandchildren.
Nadine Vest
Nadine Vest, 78, of Hickory Flat, died June 14, 2009 at her home. She was the widow of Charles Vest. She was a member of the former Charity Baptist Temple Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 17 at Olive Branch Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in New Garden Cemetery in Wakefield.
She leaves her daughters, Dorothy Medlin of Oxford, Laura Swinford of Ashland, Jackie Ford, Annette Lloyd and Jean Clayton, all of Potts Camp, Judy Crabb of Byhalia; sons, Tommy White of Olive Branch, Randy Vest of Hickory Flat; sisters, Adelle Watkins of Cedar View Community and Callie Bell Woods of Independence; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Hattie B. Bell Albright
Hattie B. Bell Albright, 68, of Byhalia, died April 10, 2009 at Baptist Hospital-Collierville in Tennessee. She was the widow of Charles Edward Albright, a member of the church’s Missionary Society, treasurer of Women’s Auxiliary, assistant Sunday school secretary and custodian at church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 18 at Hearn Grove MB Church in Byhalia, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Archie Bowen officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her children, Rosalyn Albright, Dorothy Jean Bell, Angela Anthony, all of Byhalia; her mother, Lula Ellen Bell of Byhalia; three sisters, Forestine Bell Jones of Nashville, Tenn., Meda Bell Lambert of Detroit, Mich., Josephine Bell Taylor of Chicago, Ill.; four brothers, Robert E. Bell, Woodrow Bell, both of Chicago, Cleveland Bell of Byhalia, Willie Howard Bell of Coldwater; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Robert Bell, Woodrow Bell, Lee Buford, Sanchez Anthony, Darren Butler and Steve Cathey. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Albright, Joshua Albright, Thomas Brown and Derrick Rodgers.
Richard Lee Bryson
Richard Lee Bryson, 50, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died April 1, 2009 in Benton County. He professed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Kimbrough Chapel MB Church in Lamar and later moved to Memphis, Tenn.
He leaves his wife of 20 years, Bobbie Nell Bryson; three sons, Marcus of Collierville, Tenn., Jarvis of Slayden, Derrick Taylor of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Rashunda of Memphis, Tenn.; his mother, Bessie Mae Crumb Bryson of Lamar; six brothers, Sammie, George, Mark of Memphis, Tenn., Agrippa, James of Lamar, Milton of Olive Branch; five sisters, Elizabeth, Bessie of Memphis, Tenn., Jannie, Patricia of Lamar, Gladys of Moscow, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
Mary Elizabeth Childers
Mary Elizabeth Childers, 79, of Ashland, died April 19, 2009. She was the widow of Jimmie Wayne Childers and a member of Ashland Baptist Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 21 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Ashland Cemetery. Bro. Michael Baker officiated.
She leaves her son, Terry Childers of Ashland; three daughters, Judy Taylor of Savannah, Tenn., Bettie Bradford of Ashland, Sherry Shumpert of Nettleton, Tenn.; a sister, Josephine Gibson of Ashland; and six grandchildren.
Edith Marie Cole
Edith Marie Cole, 81, of Memphis, Tenn., died April 19, 2009 at Methodist Hospital North. She was the widow of Albert Marion Cole.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on April 25 at Carey Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Bro. Matt Hess will officiate. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a son, Joseph Cole of Bartlett, Tenn.; a brother, James Cothern of Mt. Pleasant; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Bernice Marie Hale
Bernice Marie Hale, 57, of Byhalia, died April 14, 2009 at Baptist Hospital-Collierville. She was a stocker with Target in Germantown, Tenn.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 21 at Mt. Pisgah CME Church in Cayce, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Rod Lester officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves four daughters, LaRhonda Lester of Holly Springs, Linda Jenkins, Tekelia Hale, Jammikka Hale, all of Byhalia; three sons, Christopher Hale, Marcus Hale, both of Byhalia, Kevin Hale of Rock Island, Ill.; four sisters, Clara Watkins, Brenda Carter, Mary Ann Odum, Lee Ann Hale, all of Byhalia; three brothers, James Hale, Roy Hale, Al Hale, all of Byhalia; 17 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers were Daniel Scott, Wayne Garrison, Nathaniel Turner, Kevin Odum, Pierre Jenkins and Eldredge Moore. Honorary pallbearers were her sons, grandsons and nephews.
Allen Christian Marshall
Allen Christian Marshall, 29, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died April 9, 2009 in Farmington, N.M. He moved to Mt. Pleasant, where he attended H.W. Byers School, graduating in 1997. An honor student, he attended Mississippi State and State Tech College. He was a member of Mt. Sinai COGIC, where, growing up, he served on the usher board and he was a member of the church choir. He was a waiter.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 18 at Mt. Zion Taska MB Church in Cayce. Burial was in Mt. Sinai COGIC Church Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Superintendent Albert Pass officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Faith Bland Marshall; a son, Christian L. Marshall of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Moriah M. Marshall of Memphis; his mother, Rhonda K. Tillman of Memphis; his father, Keith Marshall of Sioux City, Iowa; two brothers, Joseph Marshall, Joshua Marshall, both of Sioux City, Iowa; a sister, Wind Marshall of Sioux City, Iowa; a godsister, Rico Smith of Mississippi; his maternal grandmother, Grace Tillman of Sioux City; his paternal grandfather, Thomas Joseph Marshall of Connecticut.
Pallbearers were Marcus Jones, Contello Norfleet, Maurice Boughton, Rimmon Marshall, Nicky Oliver, Dewayne Oliver, Sylvester Tillman and Waylon Goodwin. Honorary pallbearers were Rev. Curtis Pritchard Sr., Ronald Marshall, Lester Tillman Jr., Lawrence Butler, Robert Tillman and Curtis Pritchard Jr.
Bernice Ann McIntyre
Bernice Ann (Bay) McIntyre, 74, of Aurora, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs, died April 5, 2009 at her home.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on April 18 at McIntyre Cemetery in Holly Springs. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a sister, Berryniece A. Pool; two nieces, four nephews, a very special friend, Pam Graham; and a godson.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Naomi Ruth Pryor; and her brother, Aaron Dean McIntyre.
