June B. Johnson, 77, of Paris, Tenn., died Oct. 25, 2008 at her home.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 28 at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery in Paris, Tenn. Bill Dunlap and Bill Warman officiated.
She leaves her husband, Fred Richard Johnson; a son, James Stanley Johnson of Stuarts Draft, Va.; her father, Roy Velt Rhea of Potts Camp; three sisters, Shirley Jean Robbins of Etta, Bonnie Jeanette Williams of Potts Camp, Janet Marie Wilbanks of Counce, Tenn.; three brothers, William Raeford Rhea of Blue Springs, Roy Donald Rhea, Jerry Wayne Rhea, both of Potts Camp; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were family members.
Carlos T. Martin
Carlos T. (Lo-C) Martin, 31, died Oct. 18, 2008. He was born in Memphis, Tenn. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Zion MB Church.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Mt. Zion Taska MB Church in Cayce. Rev. Keith Pendilton officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his father, Sylvester Gant; his mother, Mary L. Gatewood; a stepfather, Van Gatewood; a daughter, Jayla S. Martin; two sons, Carlos T. Martin Jr. of Byhalia, Jakaree’ A. Marshall of Collierville, Tenn.; two brothers, Cedric Martin of Lamar, Michael Gatewood of Byhalia; a sister, Natasha Gatewood of Grand Junction; a stepsister, Veda Bronson of Byhalia and a step-grandmother, Sara Gatewood of Byhalia.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Jones, Robert Walls, DeMarcus Wilkins, Herbert Walls, Leon Jones, George Martin, Lonnie Martin and Lawrence Martin. Honorary pallbearers were Cedric Martin, Michael Gatewood, Alfonzo Isom, Gerald Gatewood and Carl Martin.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Gant; and a brother, Chance Gant.
James Willie Rogers
James Willie (Will) Rogers, 98, died Oct. 21, 2008. He was the widower of Teresa Hardin Rogers, his wife of 67 years. He confessed Christ at an early age and helped build Union Grove MB Church, where he joined and remained a faithful member until his health failed. He served as chairman of the deacons. On Sept. 1, 2002 he was elevated to Deacon Emeritus by pastor W.B. Sampson. He was a Mason and a member of the NAACP.
Services were held at 1 p.m. On Oct. 25 at Union Grove MB Church in New Albany. Rev. W.B. Sampson officiated. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in New Albany. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a son, Billy Rogers of New Albany; a daughter, Lettie Smith of New Albany; a brother, James Ingram of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Verlene Willie Wooper of St. Louis, Mo., Terlene Shirley Batts of Chicago, Ill.; 15 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons, Paul and James Rogers; a grandson, Moshe Rogers; five sisters; a brother, and a special daughter-in-law, Willie P. Rogers.
Aron Shaw Jr.
Aron (Clev) Shaw Jr., 68, died Sept. 28, 2008. He was born in Holly Springs. He later moved to Chicago and was employed for more than 25 years at General Electric and seven years at Waste Management.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 3 at Leak and Sons Funeral Chapels, County Club Hills, Ill. Burial was in Restvale Cemetery in Alsip, Ill. Rev. Edgar Johnson officiated.
He leaves his wife, Katie B. Shaw; his children, Patricia Echols of Gretna, La., Christene Echols of St. Louis, Mo., Felicia Matthews of Chicago, Ill., Earl Shaw of Chicago, Ill., Celestine Mays of Byhalia, Ruby Blackmond of Byhalia; siblings, Julia Walton of Memphis, Tenn., Daisy Walton of Memphis, Tenn., Ella Shaw of Chicago, Ill., Emma Curry of Waterford, Andrew Shaw Jr. of Chicago, Ill., Samuel Shaw of Memphis, Tenn., Vera Nunnally of Chicago, Ill, Bobbie Barksdale of Chicago, Ill., Terry of Aurora, Ill.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Earl Shaw, Carl Matthews, Gregory Matthews, Stephen Brown, Stanley Nunnally and Jack Cross. Honorary pallbearer was Andre McNeal.
Ida Mae Walton Wilkins
Ida Mae Walton Wilkins, 76, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 14, 2008 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was a member of Walton Chapel CME Church in Waterford and a retired nurse with Trinity Mission Health Care.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 25 at Anderson Chapel CME Church. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden Cemetery. Rev. Denise Anders-Modest officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a son, Charles Blately of Holly Springs; and two brothers, Emmon Walton, Elmore Walton, both of Denver, Colo.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Blately.
Pallbearers were Reginald Jackson, Kelvin Scales, Fred Holland, Anthony Adams, Mark McKinnon Jr. and Frederick McKinnon. Honorary pallbearers were Emmon H. Walton, Elmore Walton, James Scales, Mark McKinnon, Willie L. Scales, Jesse Holland, Jesse Jackson and Walter P. Evans.
Webster George Young
Webster George Young, 78, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 26, 2008 at Alliance HealthCare System. He was the widower of Helen Doris Jones Young. He was a member of the church choir; he attended Rust College. He was a retired chemical plant worker with Dupont.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 29 at Asbury United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Edward C. Moses officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a son, Wallace Young of Holly Springs; three sisters, Lucy Hamilton of Holly Springs, Gladys White, Ethel Lee Jones, both of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Chester Young Sr. of Omaha, Neb.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Austin Jerry Bailey
Austin Jerry Bailey, 66, of Byhalia, died Jan. 16, 2008 at Baptist Desoto Hospital. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired truck driver for Pat Salmon and Sons.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 18 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial was in Blocker Cemetery.
He leaves his wife, Odessa (Dee) Bailey; three children, Jerry Wayne Bailey, Ronald Eugene Bailey, Angela Bailey LaFleur, all of Olive Branch; three stepchildren, Stephen Powell Patrick of Southaven, Carl Christopher Hawkins of Byhalia, Rhonda Lynn Knight of Independence; two adopted children, Cathy Morgan of Batesville, Michelle Baker of Southaven; two brothers, Roy Bailey of St. Joe, Mo., Richard Bailey of Gulfport; three sisters, Frances Plunk of Clarksdale, Mildred Watson of Memphis, Linda Gustdavis of Rodgers, Ark.; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Annie Beaird
Annie Beaird, 79, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 15, 2008 at Alliance HealthCare. She was the widow of Thurmond Beaird, a member of the Church of Christ, formerly employed with Metal Craft in Holly Springs, a day care provider and Red Cross volunteer.
Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 19 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Samuel P. Thompson officiated.
She leaves three daughters, Arby Shipp, Sandra Faye Holpe, both of Holly Springs, Darlene Harris of Victoria; six sons, Virgis Richmond of Hernando, Victor Beaird of Holly Springs, Douglas Beaird of Clarksville, Tenn., Tracy Beaird of Pensacola, Fla., Thomas Beaird of Olive Branch, Lee Richmond of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Linda Brown, Augusta Adkens, both of Holly Springs; one brother, Charles L. Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; 27 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Williams, Rickey Ramiey, Glen Johnson, Truman DeBerry, Neil LeSure, Charles Byers and Brandon Williams.
She was preceded in death by two children, James and Gloria Jean Beaird; one grandchild, Doris C. Holbert and two brothers, Eddie Williams, Bishop Lee Williams.
