Edwin Eugene Greene Jr.

Edwin Eugene Greene Jr., 86, of Spring, Texas, formerly of Holly Springs, died August 23, 2008. After living most of his life in Holly Springs, he moved to Germantown, Tenn., before relocating to Spring, Texas.

He was a graduate of Columbia Military Academy, Columbia, Tenn., and the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Ala. After his graduation, Edwin worked as both an accountant and an oil jobber, owning his own company, Greene Oil. Edwin was an elder at First Presbyterian Church of Holly Springs. Upon moving to Spring, he became a member of Spring Cypress Presbyterian Church.

Edwin was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater for 25 months and landing on Omaha Beach, day six in Normandy, France. He served on the school board in Holly Springs for a number of years and was also a Rotarian. He was chairman of the Republican Party for Marshall County, for 18 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Holly Springs and also a member of Al Chymia Shrine in Memphis, Tenn. Edwin was an active member of the Arabia Shrine in Houston, Texas, where he was a member of the band and participated in charity events for the Shriner’s Hospital.

A viewing will be held on Friday, August 29, from 9:30-10:30 a. m., at Holly Springs Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. at Hill Crest Cemetery in Holly Springs.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Allie Boatwright Greene. He leaves his children, Edwin Eugene Greene III, Allen LeRoy Greene, Patrice Elizabeth Greene Herring, and Kerry Lawrence Greene; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made in memory of Edwin to First Presbyterian Church of Holly Springs, or your favorite charity.

Alice May Johnson

Alice May Johnson, 91, of Ashland, died Aug. 22, 2008 at her home. She was the widow of Troy Johnson.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 24 at Bluff Springs Baptist Church, where she was a member. Rev. Faron Ash officiated. Burial was in Bluff Springs Church Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a son, John Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Vivian Massey of Collierville, Tenn., Geraldine Lunday of Ashland; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, William Johnson.

Bobby B. Johnson

Bobby B. Johnson, 76, of Senatobia, formerly of Victoria, died Aug. 18, 2008. He was the widower of Rosie Lee Johnson. He was retired from Joy Floor and Acoustical in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of North Mississippi Wagon Train Trail Riding Association.

Services were held at noon on Aug. 21 at United Funeral Service Chapel in New Albany. Burial was in Cornersville Cemetery in Potts Camp. United Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves six daughters, Bobbie Nell Musgovoy of Atlanta, Ga., Jacqueline Combs of New Albany, Ind., Donna Hendon of Senatobia, Marie Short of Southaven, Joanie Odom of Columbia, Tenn., Teresa Shepard of Jackson; a son, Patrick Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Frances Wingert of Friendship, Md., Charlotte Williams of Brandon; a brother, Jerry Johnson of Vicksburg; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Bobby Wayne Little

Bobby Wayne Little, 65, of Blue Mountain, died Aug. 22, 2008 at Golden Living Center in Ripley. He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church and a retired farmer.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Aug. 24 at Flat Rock Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Randy Buse officiated. Ripley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves five half-sisters, Tiny Carson of Jackson, Brenda Smith of Hickory Flat, Helon Redd of Hickory Flat, Earlene Carson of Jackson, Ilene Vigaroo of Jackson; four half-brothers, Terry Carson of Ecru, Jerry Lynn Carson of Texas, Buddy Carson of Hickory Flat, J.D. Carson of Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Little; a half-sister, Charlene Mardis; and a half-brother, Billy Joe Carson.

Pallbearers were Clay Meeks, Johnny Winburn, Jarris Umphers, Donald Thompson, Glenn Smith, James Cox and Donald Files.

Noel Don McDoniel

Noel Don McDoniel, 90, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Holly Springs, died Aug. 18, 2008. He served in the 396th Armored Division during World War II, earning two Bronze starts for his valor as a forward observer. He retired from the Ford Motor Company in 1982 and worked at the Lorain Assembly plant for most of his career. After retirement Don and his wife Lenelle moved to Holly Springs and then relocated to the Atlanta area.

He leaves his wife of 68 years, Lenelle McDoniel; six children, 22 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Edward Plummer

Edward Plummer, 84, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died Aug. 17, 2008 at Parkway Health & Rehab Center in Memphis, Tenn. He was a World War II US Navy veteran and a retired security guard with Guardsmark, Inc., Memphis, Tenn.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 22 at Rising Star MB Church, where he was a former member. Burial was in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn. Rev. Solomon Plummer III officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Ruth Davidson Plummer of Holly Springs; a daughter, Sherron Plummer of Holly Springs; two sons, James Plummer of Holly Springs, Edward Plummer of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Martha Seals of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, L.C. Plummer of Memphis, Tenn.; and a grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Harrison Plummer; and a daughter, Jacqueline Plummer.

Pallbearers were United States Military Burial Detail.

Carlisha Eulunda Thomas

Carlisha Eulunda Thomas, 41, of Byhalia, died Aug. 18, 2008 at her home. She attended Byhalia High School.

Services were held at 12 noon on Aug. 23 at Nichols Chapel in Byhalia, where she was a member. Burial was in Watson Cemetery. Rev. Tony Wilkins officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her parents, Harry Moore and Willie Belle Thomas of Memphis, Tenn.; a very special friend, Harry Bronson of Byhalia; 12 children Shinecka Thomas, Quigel Bronson, Errion Bronson, Alexis Thomas, Kristin Thomas, Keyton Thomas, Desmond Thomas, Morgan Thomas, Brittany Bronson, McKenzie Bronson, Leshun Bronson, Harry Bronson Jr.; her brother, Kirby Cummings of Memphis, Tenn.; her sister Tahnn Craft of Holly Springs; and three grandchildren.

James Robert Weatherall

James Robert Weatherall, 77, of Hickory Flat, died August 13, 2008 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a retired factory worker.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 20 at St. Mary’s United Methodist Church in Potts Camp, where he was a member. Burial was in Reid’s Gift MB Church Cemetery in Potts Camp. Rev. Eddie Ford officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Catherine Walker Weatherall; two daughters, Clem Woods of Memphis, Renee Weatherall of Hickory Flat; two sons, James Andrew Weatherall, Robert Perry Weatherall, both of Hickory Flat; a sister, Joyce Anita White of Milwaukee, Wis.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Chris Coleman, Frank Luzar, Adam Davis, Mario Buckley, David Barnette, Trey Dillard. Honorary pallbearers were Chris Weatherall, David Turnage, Andrew Weatherall, James A. Weatherall, Robert Love and Perry Weatherall.
