Charlie Shead
Charlie Shead, 102, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 25, 2010, at Golden Living Center in Southaven. He was the widower of Ora D. Alexander Shead.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 2 at Kingdom Hall of Jehova’s Witness in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Bro. E.C. Hoyle officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves three daughters, Elver Hampton of Calumet Park, Ill., Elzadie Johnson of Gary, Ind., Louvadie King of Memphis, Tenn.; five sons, Alexander Shead, Thomas Shead, both of Holly Springs, Charlie James Shead of Memphis, Tenn., Parmena Shead of Chicago, Ill., Larry Shead of Denton, Tx.; two brothers, Leroy Shead of Charleston, Mo., Elmer Shead of Chicago, Ill.; 38 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by children Edna Lucille Shead, Thurman Shead, Almedia Peterson and Alvis Shead.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Norvis Shead, Orlandus Bronner, Derek King, Christopher Shead, Thurman Shead and Timothy Shead. Honorary pallbearers were sons Alexander Shead, Parmena Shead, Thomas Shead, Charlie Shead Jr.; and son-in-law, Paul King.
Nellie Joyce Smith
Nellie Joyce Smith, 76, of Waterford, died Oct. 3, 2010, at Collierville, Tenn. She was a member of Abundant Life Worship Center and a nursing assistant with Care Inn.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Bro. Cliff Waldrop officiated.
She leaves her son, Raiford Graham of Olive Branch; six daughters, Peggy Waldrop of Victoria, Becky Ferrell of Collierville, Tenn., Penny Bolden of Holly Springs, Debra Tomlinson of Waterford, Sandra Gamblin of Ripley, Kandye Barkhurst of Waterford; a sister, Helen Loyce Smith of Bartlett, Tenn.; a stepbrother, Marvin Culver of Evansville, Ind.; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Annie Laura Bolden
Annie Laura Bolden, 86, of Etta, died Sept. 26, 2010, at Union County Health and Rehab in New Albany. She was the widow of Lilburn Bolden, a Methodist, and she had worked at Coated, Abrasives.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 28 at Salem United Methodist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Dr. Bryan Collier and Dr. Steve Nelson officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two daughters, Charlotte Gregory of Tupelo, Judy Collier of Etta; three sisters, Charlene Gill, Barbara Sue Smith, both of Slayden, Velma Wilburn of Ashland; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Randy Wilburn, Woody Smith, Slate Collier, David Hill, Jason Collier and Richard Weems.
Eunice May Burkeen
Eunice May Burkeen, 86, of Byhalia, died Sept. 21, 2010, at her home.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Sept. 24 at Apostolic Church of Jesus, where she was a member. Burial was in Memory Hill Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two sons, John Whitehorn of Millington, Tenn., Terry Whitehorn of Whiteville, Tenn.; two daughters, Nancy McGuiness of Dallas, Tx., Annette Wells of Byhalia; a brother, Bobby Bolen of Munford, Tenn.; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Cleo Gerome Hughes
Cleo Gerome Hughes, 62, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 16, 2010, at Alliance HealthCare in Holly Springs. He was born Sept. 21, 1947 in Marshall County. He attended New Genesis Assembly of God Baptist Church in Chicago, Ill.
Services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 25 at Isom Chapel CME church in Holly Springs. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. C.L. Norman officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves three children, Cynitha Seldon, Marilyn Jenkins of Red Banks, Aaron Wilson of Wooster, Ohio; his mother, Lucille Hughes; six siblings, Ed Hughes, Jeffery Hughes, Fannie Lampley, all of Holly Springs, Michael Hughes of Chicago, Ill., Rodney Young of Memphis, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Freddie B. Hughes.
Jerry Warriner Hunsucker Sr.
Jerry Warriner Hunsucker Sr., 71, of Mt. Pleasant, died Sept. 25, 2010. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant and a mechanic.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 28 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Carey Chapel Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Dr. Don LaBelle officiated.
He leaves three son, Jerry (Butch) Hunsucker Jr. of Nashville, Tenn., Walter Wayne Hunsucker of Memphis, Tenn., Randal Keith Hunsucker of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, George Sanford Hunsucker of Mt. Pleasant; and five grandchildren.
Carl Pauline Brownlee Mauney
Carl Pauline (Polly) Brownlee Mauney, 88, of Grand Ridge, Fla., formerly of Potts Camp, died Sept. 25, 2010, at her home. She was the widow of Louis Randall Mauney. She was a native of Mississippi and had lived in the Potts Camp area until 1960, when she moved to Florida. She was a member of Inwood Baptist Church in Grand Ridge.
Services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 28 at Salem Baptist Church in Potts Camp. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Randy Bynum officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her son, Kenneth L. Mauney of Grand Ridge, Fla.; four daughters, Norma Rosentritt of San Antonio, Tx., Jo Carroll of Tallahassee, Fla., Linda Maples of Grand Ridge, Fla., Dianne Davidson of Sneads, Fla.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Annette Rosentritt.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be given to either of her churches, Inwood Baptist Church, 2012 Inwood Road, Grand Ridge, FL 32442; or Salem Baptist Church.
Helen Leavell McAlexander
Helen Leavell McAlexander, 79, of Olive Branch, died Sept. 20, 2010, at the North Mississippi Regional Hospital in West Point. She was the widow of James Baird McAlexander Jr. She retired from Northcentral Electric Power Association in Byhalia, and was a member of Maples Memorial United Methodist Church in Olive Branch.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 24 at First Presbyterian Church in Byhalia. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch was in charge of arrangements. She leaves a daughter, Di Anne Smith of West Point; three sons, Baird McAlexander of Senatobia, Gregg McAlexander of Red Banks, Richard McAlexander of Olive Branch; a sister, Roxie Fore of Senatobia; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Maples Memorial United Methodist Church in Olive Branch; First Presbyterian Church in Byhalia, or Catholic Social Services in Olive Branch.
