Ruth Mae Porter Nichols
Ruth Mae Porter Nichols, 83, of Byhalia, died Sept. 19, 2010, at Signature Healthcare at St. Francis, Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Ernest Nichols Sr. She was a church missionary and church usher. She was a retired housekeeper with Whispering Woods/Holiday Inn.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 25 at Liberty Hill MB Church in Byhalia, where she was a member. Burial was in McCraven Cemetery. Rev. Calvin Rayborn Sr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a son, Ernest (Puddin) Nichols Jr. of Byhalia; two sisters, Helen Gray of Blue Mountain, Fannie Odum of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Leo Porter of Detroit, Mich.; a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Michael Richmond, Andre Richmond, Maurice Richmond, Charles Porter, Robert Oliver Jr. and Marvin Balfour. Honorary pallbearers were Percy Porter Jr., Elvin Mayse, William Withers, Wayne Nichols, Robert Nichols and Wade Saulsberry.
Teddy R. Arnett
Teddy R. Arnett, 77, of Byhalia, died Feb. 16, 2009. He was a retired painter after 35 years at Methodist Hospital, an Army veteran serving during the Korean War and had attended Bethlehem Baptist Church in Rossville, Tenn.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Feb. 20 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Forest Hill East Cemetery.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Connie Arnett; daughter, Wendy Kirk; sister, Gene Balentine; two brothers, Ellis and Larry Arnett; and three grandchildren.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, any memorials be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Bonnie Bannister-Boatner
Bonnie Sue Bannister-Boatner, 43, of Potts Camp, died Feb. 19, 2009 at her home.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 26 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel in New Albany. Bro. Michael Baker of Pine Grove Baptist Church officiated.
She leaves her husband, David Boatner; three sons, Jamie Ray Bannister and his wife, Crystal Kerns Bannister, beloved daughter-in-law, of Albuquerque, N.M., David Scott Bannister of Gulfport, Cody Levi Bannister of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters, Shannon Marie Boatner, Heather Paige Boatner, both of New Albany; her father, Luther Mills of Medlins, W.V.; her mother, Peggy Watson and stepfather, Mike Watson of Pell City, Ala.; a brother, Anthony Mills of Haleyville, Ala.; and seven grandchildren.
Rickey Bing
Rickey Bing, 53, of Waterford, died Feb. 22, 2009 at Baptist Hospital. He was a Baptist and employed in logging as a skidder driver.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 24 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Bro. Frank Feathers officiated.
He leaves his wife, Betty Jean Bing; his mother, Christine Bing Thomas of Waterford; three sons, Richard Allen Bing, Jeffery Mark Bing, both of Waterford, Brian Edward Bing of Southaven; five brothers, Billy Bing, Bobby Bing, Mickey Bing, all of Waterford, Jerry Bing of Victoria, Jimmy Bing of Holly Springs; three sisters, Judy Wright of Eupora, Janie Bing of Waterford, Josie Karr of Tula; seven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bradley Bing, Billy Bing Jr., Dewayne Bing, Kevin Bing, Daniel Cox, Joseph Rhea, Daniel Cox and Samuel Cox. Honorary pallbearer was Mickey Bing.
L.G. Brown
L.G. (Faye) Brown, 43, of Etta, died Feb. 21, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. A native of Lafayette County, he was a custodian for Service Master.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 at the Tallahatchie-Oxford MB Association Building with burial in Flint Hill MB Church Cemetery in Etta. Rev. Albert Smith will officiate. Hodges-Serenity Funeral Home in Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves three daughters, Veronica Brown, Teresa Isom, April Isom, of New Albany; his mother, Ella Brown of New Albany; three sisters, Jennifer Coleman of Abbeville, Missy Foster, Tiffany Adams, of Etta; two brothers, Eddie Brown of Potts Camp, Irish Brown of New Albany and five grandchildren.
Virginia Culver
Myrle Virginia Crockett Culver, 66, of Waterford, died Feb. 19, 2009 at Baptist Hospital of Union County in New Albany.
She leaves her husband of 47 years, Creed Culver; four sons, Jessie Crockett of Water Valley, Bob Culver, Creed (Bubba) Culver Jr., both of Potts Camp, Daniel L. Culver of Nashville, Tenn.; four daughters, Patricia Gibbons of Lake Center, Chris Wilbourne of Water Valley, Tammy Culver of Potts Camp, Gail Lewis of Memphis, Tenn.; four sisters; two brothers; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Laws Hill. Rev. Bobby Campbell officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Randall William Douglas
Randall William Douglas, 48, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., formerly of Holly Springs and Germantown, Tenn., died Feb. 22, 2009 at DCH Regional Medical. He was a member of Capstone Baptist Church and a contractor.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 25 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery.
He leaves his son, William Randall Douglas of Demopolis, Ala.; his mother, Ann. B. Douglas of Germantown, Tenn.; his father and stepmother, Richard and Leigh Douglas of Holly Springs; two brothers, Russell Millard Douglas of Houston, Tx., Charles Richard Douglas of Starkville; and a sister, Christy D. Owens of Holly Springs.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Allen Douglas Jr.
Carl Edward Hiatt
Carl Edward Hiatt, 70, of Red Banks, died Feb. 21, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Stuttgart, Ark., a truck mechanic with Barton Equipment Company and an Air Force veteran.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 28 at Carey Chapel Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Rev. Matt Hess will officiate. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Katie Hiatt; two sons, Stephen Hiatt of Washington state, Andrew Hiatt of Cordova, Tenn.; two daughters, Debbie Hignite of Florida, Lisa Hiatt Todd of Ashland; and two sisters, Betty Jones of Hot Springs, June Browning of Stuttgart, Ark.
Lurlean Campbell Lewellyn
Lurlean Campbell Lewellyn, 70, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 16, 2009 at her home. She was a former member of Sand Hill MB Church, and a retired factory worker with Sunbeam.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 21 at True Vine MB Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Sand Hill MB Church Cemetery. Rev. Darrell Cunningham officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves three daughters, Brenda Hampton of Byhalia, Jennifer Wilkins of Southaven, Mattie Sanders of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Melvin Luellen, Larry Luellen, both of Holly Springs; three sisters, Willie Williams of Atlanta, Ga., Ruby Campbell, Jerlean Campbell, both of Flint, Mich.; three brothers, Jessie Campbell of Holly Springs, Thomas Campbell of Chicago, Ill., Tommy Campbell of Pittsburgh, Pa., 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, L.B. Campbell, Mack Campbell and David Campbell.
Pallbearers were Cedric Hampton, Ozell Hampton Jr., Corey Luellen, Nathaniel Tunstall, minister Alderoderick Neely, Antonio Neely and Lateredick Williams. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Luellen, Melvin Luellen, Shunderick Hampton and DreShaun Young.
