Sinoba Jackson, 51, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 21, 2009 at Alliance HealthCare System.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 31 at Kimbrough Chapel in Lamar. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Elder Octavis Allen will officiate. Serenity Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
She leaves four children, Angela Harden of Byhalia, Katrina Jackson, Untrinessia Jackson, Carla Jackson, all of Holly Springs; five brothers, Cecil Adkins, Johnny Jackson, Timothy Jackson, Wilbur Lee Jackson, Eric Jackson, all of Holly Springs; four sisters, Perline Batts of Byhalia, Hazel McFadden, Zenna Jackson, Ella Marie Jackson, all of Holly Springs; and 12 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Carlos Jackson; and a brother, Adell Jackson, Jr.
Ora D. Pegues Jeffries
Ora D. Pegues Jeffries, 64, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 17, 2009 at her home. She was a retired educator with Water Valley Public Schools.
Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. on Jan. 25 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, where she was a member. Bro. Wesley Parham officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Edward Jeffries; a daughter, Felicia M. Moore of Dallas, Tx.; five sisters, Susiette Pegues, Dorothy Martin, Bertha Pegues, all of Holly Springs, Glennie M. Brookins of Wynn, Ark., Betty Pegues of Memphis, Tenn.; three brothers, William Pegues, Langston Pegues, both of Memphis, Tenn., Albert Pegues of Waterford; two stepchildren, Gracie Ann Jeffries, Wendy Lee Jeffries, both of Chicago, Ill.; and a granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Louis Pegues Sr.
Harold Dewey Jordan
Harold Dewey Jordan, 79, of Ashland, died Jan. 23, 2009 at his home. He was a member of Bluff Springs Baptist Church and an employee with U.S. Forestry Service
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 25 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Ashland Cemetery. Bro. David Jordan and Bill Renick officiated.
He leaves his wife, Martha Jordan; a daughter, Gail Harrison of Ashland; a brother, Bobby Jordan of Ashland; three granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Curtis Joyner Sr.
Curtis Joyner Sr., 74, of Byhalia, died Jan. 22, 2009 at Baptist Hospital. He was a Baptist and an automobile body repairman for 40 years.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 26 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Billy Watkins officiated.
He leaves his wife, Martha Joyner; two sons, Curtis Joyner Jr. of Ripley, James Joyner of Byhalia; three daughters, Connie Guess, Carolyn Free, Christina Conaser, all of Byhalia; six brothers, David Joyner of Southaven, Raymond Joyner of Sardis, Frank Joyner of Grenada, Billy Joyner, Jimmy Joyner, Guy Joyner, all of Walnut; four sisters, Jessie Mae Baggett of Tupelo, Francis Howell of Texas City, Tx., Lou Stone, Daisy Graham, both of Horn Lake; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Leroy Mayfield
Leroy Mayfield, 63, of Slayden, died Jan. 16, 2009 at his home. He was a disabled laborer for Acme Bricks.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 24 at Jones Grove MB Church, where he was a member. Burial was in Charity Hill Cemetery in Lake Center. Rev. John Powell officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Annie Moore Mayfield; two daughters, Shelia Mayfield, Melinda Mayfield, both of Holly Springs; a son, Quartez Mayfield of Texas; four stepchildren, Mary Ann Moorer of Memphis, Tenn., Sharon Crumb, Cassandra Hill, both of Slayden, Troy Lee Jones of Mt. Pleasant; his mother, Katie Mayfield of Holly Springs; a sister, Linda Kaye Preston of Holly Springs; and four brothers, James Mayfield, Raymond Mayfield, Prentis Mayfield, Kenneth Mayfield, all of Holly Springs.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Mayfield; a stepson, Anthony Jones; siblings, Queen Esther Mayfield, Margaret Jean Mayfield.
Pallbearers were Larry Willis, Ajacca Penilton, Isaac Mayfield, Kevin Crumb, Lorenzo Glover and Anthony Mayfield. Honorary pallbearers were Curtis Mayfield, Tony Martin, Troy Lee Jones and Clyde Hill.
Elizabeth Banks Rogers
Elizabeth Banks Rogers, 82, of Oxford, died Jan. 16, 2009 at her home. She was the widow of Walter Rogers. She was a former member of the LaFayette County Democratic Executive Committee, Retired Teachers Association and oldest living member of Second Baptist Church.
Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 21 at Second Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in St. Peters Cemetery in Oxford. Rev. Leroy Wadlington performed the eulogy; Rev. Andrew Robinson, pastor. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Sheridan Rogers McDonald of Oxford; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sons, Stephen Glen Rogers, Walter C. Rogers; sisters, Doris (Pink) Spruille, Dorothy Phillips; and a brother, William Banks.
Pallbearers were Vincent B. Higgins, Gerald Smith, Scottie S. Vaughn, Edwin Pettis, Stephen G. Rogers Jr. and Rev. Peter Johnson.
Sharon Tacker
Sharon Tacker, 49, of Clarksdale, formerly of Byhalia, died Jan. 25, 2009 at Memorial Hospice Clarksdale. She lived in Byhalia most of her life, until she became ill several months ago.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 29 at Church of the Living Gospel in Watson. Burial was in Greenleaf Cemetery in Coldwater. Rev. Joe Glosson officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Thomas Tacker; two sons, Thomas Tacker III and Jonathan Tacker, both of Byhalia; a daughter, Sarah Jacobs of Coldwater; a brother, Herman Wiley of Holly Springs; a sister, Joyce Mansfield of Hartsville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Cirrito; and a brother, Larry Wiley.
Junia Mae Wilson
Junia Mae Wilson, 89, of Ashland, died Jan. 16, 2009 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was the widow of Ezekial Tally and a retired domestic worker.
Graveside services were held at McKay Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Rev. LaDaryl Odum officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her nieces who cared for her, Gloria Jones of New Albany, Mary Williams of Ashland; and other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Buster Wilson, Talford Wilson, Clyde Wilson, Henry Mac Wilson, William Thomas Wilson; sisters, Mozella Berry, Wyoma Boyd, Romeo Mayes, Annette Wilson and Mildred Walker.
