Eugene Massey
Eugene Massey, 64, of Hickory Flat, died Oct. 22, 2009 at Graceland Care Center in New Albany. He was a disabled timber cutter (logger) with Gilliam Home Logging Company.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 29 at Reid’s Gift MB Church in Potts Camp, where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Jerry Williams will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Mandie Harris; two daughters, Linda Massey of Hickory Flat, Janet Judon of New Albany; four sons, Sammey Massey of Hickory Flat, Anthony Massey, Henry Harris, both of New Albany, Corey Jackson of Holly Springs; four sisters, Birdie Harris, Betty Simmons, Everlena Holden, all of Hickory Flat, Mattie Jones of Myrtle; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Massey.
Margie Ann Minor
Margie Ann Minor, 62, of Waterford, died Oct. 24, 2009 at her home. She worked for many years at two of the local Holly Springs florists.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 28 at Spring Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Ray Minor; three sons, Danny Ray Minor, David Carl Minor, Darron Lee Minor, all of Waterford; two sisters, Maxine Palmer of Waterford, Carnell Minor of Jackson; and three grandsons.
Virginia L. Moore
Virginia L. Moore, 85, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 22, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Collierville, Tenn.
Services were held at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 24 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn.
She leaves three daughters, Shirley Gallina of Tipton County, Tenn., Barbara Vickery of Lamar, Connie Blankley of Walnut; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
Robert Lee Plaxico Jr.
Robert Lee Plaxico Jr., 78, of Waterford, died Oct. 21, 2009 at his home. He was a board member of Waterford Volunteer Fire Department and a retired laborer with U.S. Plywood in Oxford.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 24 at Mt. Teamer CME Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Willie Harper officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Louise Deloris Plaxico; five daughters, Ktherenia Walker of Waterford, Rochell Plaxico of Tinley Park, Ill., Edekia Nalls of Chicago, Ill., Irma Plaxico of Matteson, Ill., Sharon Brooks of Atlanta, Ga.; three sons, Pierre Plaxico of Holly Springs, Chester Plaxico of Chicago, Ill., Frozay Plaxico of Elkton, Md.; a stepdaughter, Kerma Knox of Hemit, Calif.; a stepson, Kenneth Jarrett of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Willie Mae Pegues of Waterford; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Pierre Plaxico, Chester Plaxico, Frozay Plaxico Sr., Lawrence Michael Nalls II, Edward Walker Jr., Sterling Plaxico, Frozay Plaxico Jr. and Michael Brooks. Honorary pallbearers were Austin Jenkins Sr., David Hillard, Casper Taylor, Booker Taylor, Kenneth Jarrett, Anthony McKinnon, Fred Johnson and Bill Jones.
Robert Franklin Poff
Robert Franklin Poff, 87, of Memphis, Tenn., died Oct. 19, 2009 at Methodist South. He was a US Postal Mail Carrier and a Marine Corps veteran.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 23 at Bluff Springs Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Fallon Ash officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Sarah Poff; two sons, Robert T. Poff, Larry K. Poff, both of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Patricia L. Poff of Olive Branch; five brothers, J.W. Poff of Hernando, John Edward Poff of Memphis, Tenn., Dewey Poff, Joel Poff, David Poff, all of Ashland; a sister, Arlene Gibson of Slayden; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Letha Alexander Reynolds
Letha Alexander Reynolds, 96, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died Oct. 20, 2009 at her home. She was the widow of Frank Reynolds. She was a retired seamstress with Memphis Furniture.
Services were held at 12 noon on Oct. 28 at Olivet Fellowship Baptist Church in Memphis, Tenn., where she was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Dr. Curtis Kittrell officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her great-nephew, who was her caregiver, Martin Vinson of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Virginia Alexander Glover of Holly Springs; and a brother, Dempsey Alexander Jr. of Holly Springs.
Pallbearers were Torrance Riddle, James Riddle, James Vinson, Hubert Riddle, Hazel Riddle and Roger Kimbrough. Honorary pallbearers were May Fellowship and Pearls Discovery Sunday school class.
Lawrence Henry Stinson
Lawrence Henry (Pee Wee) Stinson, 70, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 17, 2009 at his home. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Paul CME Church in Lake Center. He was a well-known contractor and builder in Marshall County.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 23 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Ayers Cemetery in Lake Center. Rev. Tony Wilkins officiated.
He leaves three sons, Lawrence E. Stinson, Anthony Stinson, Orlando Stinson, all of Holly Springs; two daughters, Vera Mae Stinson of Holly Springs, Rosita Poe of Lake Center; four sisters, Rosie Payton of Holly Springs, Doris Beard, Betty Robin, Nellene Rhodes, all of Fayetteville, NC; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Annie Crane; and two grandchildren, Lamont and Deanna.
Pallbearers were Carlos Stinson, Ellis Johnson, Willis McNeil, Keith Stinson, Danny Hankins and Samuel Payton Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Lawrence (Bo) Stinson, Olando Stinson, Michael Poe, Billy Autry, Anthony Stinson, Frank Rhodes, Clay Henderson and Carlos Stinson.
Cora Mae Clayborne Boxley
Cora Mae Clayborne Boxley, 84, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 13, 2009 at Baptist Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. She was the widow of Arthur Lee Boxley and a church usher.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 17 at Pleasant Grove MB Church in Red Banks, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves four daughters, Louise Smith, Margaret Woodard, Erma Warren, Cora Warren, all of Holly Springs; two sons, David Boxley of Victoria, Ira Boxley of Holly Springs; seven sisters, Emma D. Hardin of St. Louis, Mo., Lena Hands, Gloria Cooper, both of Chicago, Ill., Freda Ingram, Margaret Zinn, both of Jeffersonville, Ind., Susie Stinson, Omie Dale James, both of Holly Springs; two brothers, Mack Clayborne, Ray Clayborne, both of Chicago, Ill.; 27 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde Clayborne, George Clayborne.
Pallbearers were Quoderick McKinney, Percy Freeman, Elbert Woodard Jr., David Bell, Robert Smith III, Author Woodard, Andre’ Finley and Telly Warren. Honorary pallbearers were David Boxley, Elbert Woodard, James Warren, Courtney Boxley, Carlos Jones, Quoderick Boxley, Ira Boxley, Robert Smith II, Mark Evans, Antonio Boxley and Deandre Boxley.
