Cleveland Culver
Cleveland Culver, 85. of Marshall County, died Oct. 16, 2009 at Alliance Healthcare. He was the widower of Janie Culver, an Army veteran and a Baptist.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 17 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery in Waterford.
He leaves two daughters, Corrine Evans of Waterford, Linda Dempsey of Louisville; two sisters, Annie Mae Feathers of Byhalia, Irene Nichols of New Albany; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren.
Robert Lee Culver Jr.
Robert Lee Culver Jr., 83, of Waterford, died Oct. 17, 2009 at Baptist Hospital North MS in Oxford. He was a member of Holly Hill Baptist Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 20 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Culver Family Cemetery in Waterford. Bro. Frank Feathers officiated.
He leaves his wife, Annie Evelyn Culver; three sons, Clyde Culver, David Culver, Calvin Culver, all of Waterford; three daughters, Marie Palmer, Faye Holland, both of Waterford, Sandra Wilson of Mt. Pleasant; five brothers, Claude Culver, Lee Culver, James Culver, Creed Culver, all of Waterford, Donald Culver of Blue Mountain; a sister, Sally Shaw of Waterford; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons, Lester Culver, Leon Culver; and a granddaughter, Karen Culver
Charles Edward Greer
Charles Edward Greer, 65, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 10, 2009 at Alliance Healthcare. He was born in Holly Springs.
Services were held at 12 noon on Oct. 17 at Samuel Chapel MB Church in Ashland, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Minister Joseph Davis Jr. officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his special companion, Lillie Tuner of Ashland; three sons, Louis Greer of Holly Springs, Clearance Crane, Willie Crane of Peoria, Ill; a daughter, Linda Greer, of Peoria, Ill.; 10 brothers, Jesse Greer, Richard Greer, Oscar Greer, all of Memphis, Tenn., Eugene Hampton, George Hampton, both of Holly Springs, Willie James Hampton, Raymond Hampton, Charles Hampton, Mozell Hampton, all of Ashland; five sisters, Earnestine Evans, Dallie Mae Peterson, Dorothy Clardy, Lee Francis Hampton and Lora Hampton, all of Ashland; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Terry Brown, James Hampton, Joe Burns, George Godwin, Jason Bullock and Chester Cole. Honorary pallbearers were Tavarus Nesbit, Frankie Marion, Ray Turner, Falando Marion, Bruce Brown and Stacy Williams.
Ricky Hancock
Ricky Arnold Hancock, 61, died October 12, 2009 at his residence in Sherman. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and employed by the City of Sherman. He had been previously employed by the Natchez Trace Inn, the Natchez Trace Parkway, and the Mississippi Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church.
Services were held at 2 p.m. October 14, at the United Funeral Service Chapel in New Albany with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Burial was in the Macedonia Cemetery. United Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two daughters Krystal Whitaker of Tupelo, and Erika Thomas of Nashville, Tenn.; two sons Brad Hancock of Corinth, and Jason Whitaker of Nettleton; a sister Audine Cooper of Potts Camp; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother S. A. Hancock, Jr.
Pallbearers were Jason Whitaker, Brad Hancock, Earl Reece, David Newcomb, Harry McAnally, Danny Ryan, Sterling Woodruff, and Alan Woodruff. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of the City of Sherman.
Lillie Idell James
Lillie Idell James, 89, of Byhalia, died Oct. 15, 2009. She was a member of Byhalia First Baptist Church and the order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 19 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery.
She leaves her husband of 70 years, W.R. James; a daughter, Diane Schwanke of Memphis, Tenn.; a son, Gerald James of Olive Branch; a brother, Travis Courson of Byhalia; two grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
Kenneth Hoey
Kenneth Hoey, 40, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 13, 2009 at Baptist Hospital-North MS in Oxford. He was a disabled maintenance worker with ICS Headstart.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 17 at Beverly Chapel CME Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Willie Hoey officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Linda Turner Hoey; a son, Kenneth Hoey Jr. of Holly Springs; eight sisters, Delores Hoey, Mae Frances Payne, both of Holly Springs, Thelma Johnson of Horn Lake, Joyce Culpepper of Memphis, Tenn., Sharon Hoey of Bellevue, Neb., Sarah Payne, Loreica Raglin, both of Aurora, Ill., Sandra Hughes of Aurora; five brothers, Rev. Willie Hoey of Holly Springs, Lee Hoey of Columbus, Ga., Roy Hoey of Hindsville, Ga., Otis Payne, Robert Payne, both of Aurora, Ill.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Troy Payne.
Pallbearers were Charles Payne, Alvonzo Harris, Timothy Brown, Joe C. Hoey, James Rooks and Charles Hoey. Honorary pallbearers were Antonio Culpepper, Johnny Richmond, Edward Richmond, Roger Johnson, Michael Hoey, Antonio Culpepper Jr. and Dillan Hoey.

Bonnie E. Land, 81, of Barton, died Sept. 23, 2009 at the Baptist Hospital in Collierville, Tenn.
She leaves a daughter, Patricia Nance of Barton; three brothers and three sisters.

Melinda Lynn Mayfield, 38, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 11, 2009 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville. She was born in Holly Springs.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 17 at Strawberry MB Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden.
She leaves a daughter, Jesmine S. Mayfield of Holly Springs; a brother, Quantez Mayfield of Hooks, Tx.; two sisters, Shelia Mayfield, Cornillius Brittenum, both of Holly Springs; two grandmothers, Renell Holloway, Katie Mayfield, both of Holly Springs; and her stepmother, Annie Mayfield of Slayden.
Pallbearers were Robert Malone Sr., Rickey Shaw, Isaac Mayfield, James Mayfield Jr., Antonio Martin and Anthony Mayfield. Honorary pallbearers were Quantez Mayfield, Odessus McAskill, Jerry Jones and Robert Holloway.
