Lou Wilkins Orr
Lou Wilkins Orr, 94, of Columbus, formerly of Byhalia, died Oct. 13, 2009. She was the widow of Robert Langdon Orr. She grew up and finished high school in Clarksdale. She then attended Weslyn in Macon, Ga., for two years before transferring to the University of Mississippi, where she completed her degree. She was a member of Chi Omega while at Ole Miss. She moved to Byhalia, where she taught school. In 1999, she moved to Trinity Retirement Center in Columbus.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 17 at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her daughter, Carolyn Orr; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Lorine Dowdy Snow
Lorine Dowdy Snow, 79, of Lamar, died Oct. 11, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Collierville, Tenn. She was the widow of Orange Snow. She was a church usher and a member of the mother’s board.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on Oct. 17 at Kimbrough Chapel MB Church in Lamar, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. J.W. Smith Jr. and Rev. Ben Norman officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves six daughters, Helen Smith, Clara Nunnally, Earnestine Crawford, Queen Norman, Loretha Mathis, Eveline Isom, all of Holly Springs; six sons, Fred Snow, Lloyd Snow, J.W. Snow, Willie Snow, Odell Snow, Obie Snow, all of Holly Springs; 39 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
Virginia Valentine
Virginia Valentine, 79, of Ashland, died Oct. 15, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. She was the widow of Morris Valentine, her husband of 40 years; a member of Ashland Baptist Church and a retired secretary with MS Department of Transportation. She graduated from Memphis Tech in 1948. She worked as a bank manager at the Slayden Bank and as a teller at the Bank of Holly Springs.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 18 at Holly Springs Funeral Home. Burial was in Slayden Cemetery. Bro. Gary Adams officiated.
She leaves two sons, Danny Valentine, Johnny Valentine, both of Oxford; three daughters, Sherry Hughes of Harmontown, Cindy Farese of Ashland, Dede Skelton of Waterford; a sister, Velma Langston of Hernando; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Anthony Terrance Anderson
Anthony Terrance Anderson, 28, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 9, 2011, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, Tenn. He was a member of the church choir, a 2002 graduate of Holly Springs High School, attended Northwest Community College and was a truck driver with Pat Salmon Company in Little Rock, Ark.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 17 at Anderson Chapel CME Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Denise Anders Modest will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his mother, Purvene Love Anderson of Holly Springs; his father, George Anderson of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, George Durrell Jeffries of Holly Springs; and his grandmother, Anna Mae Love of Holly Springs.
James Howard Hoyle
James Howard Hoyle, 73, of Ashland, died Feb. 4, 2011, at Baptist Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He was a member of Palestine MB Church in Ashland and a retired fork lift operator with Scherring Plough, Inc. after 35 years.
Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 12 at Ashland High School gym. Burial was in Palestine MB Church Cemetery. Supt. Bernell Hoyle officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife Alberta Richard Hoyle; a daughter, Natalie F. Washington of Memphis, Tenn.; six sons, James Hoyle, Eldson Hoyle, Jerome Hoyle, Tarvaris Hoyle, Renaldo Hoyle, Patrick Hoyle, all of Ashland; four sisters, Geanie Parker, Ruby Richard, Doris Evans, Betty Gibson, all of Ashland; seven brothers, Chester Harris, Raymond Hoyle, Thomas Hoyle, Cluster Hoyle, all of Ashland, George Harris of Memphis, Reed Hoyle of Columbus, Ohio, Freddie Hoyle of Corinth; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Nehemiah Lesure Sr.
Nehemiah Lesure Sr., 80, died Feb. 5, 2011, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. He was the widower of Lillie Mae Scruggs Lesure. He was a factory worker at the Coca Cola Plant and Hoover Plant Corporation.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 12 at Free Branch MB Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Marvin Brooks officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two daughters, Minnie J. Lesure of Lamar, Carnella F. Lesure of Victoria; five sons, Nehemiah Jr. (Shirley) of Potts Camp, Wendell (Lisa) of Pontotoc, David (Shirley) of Ashland, Johnson L. (Sue Ann) of Louisville, Rowland (Lesa) of Columbia, Ga.; a sister, Minnie P. Lesure; five brothers, Willie Henry (Guthrie), M.T. Lesure, Ollie R. Lesure, Robert Lesure, Paul Lesure; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Eddie Nunn, Anthony Lesure, Robert Fairs, Terrell Lesure, Demarus Shield and Maurice Lesure. Honorary pallbearers were his sons.
He was preceded in death by his first child, James Roger Lesure; a granddaughter and one great-grandson.
Doris Elaine McDaniel
Doris Elaine McDaniel, 49, died Feb. 1, 2011, in Moses Lake, Wash. She graduated from Holly Springs High School in 1980 and attended junior college in Oxford, receiving an associate’s degree.
Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. on Feb. 11 at New Beginnings Christian Center in Moses Lake. Providence Funeral Services in Quincy was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, David; children, Sherita, Shavita, David Jr. and Shetekia; her mother, Lucille Rooks; brothers, Joe Ray Rooks, Walter Rooks, Freddie Rooks, Sylvester Rooks, Robert Rooks, George Thompson, James Rooks; sisters, twin Doral Sharp, Brenda Stinson.
She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Clarence Rooks, Milton Rooks, MaryLee Montez, Mattie Rooks and Martha Rooks.
Memorials may be made through New Beginnings Christian Center.
Curtis Hayes Ray
Curtis Hayes Ray, 59, of Pontotoc, died Feb. 5, 2011. He was a member of Naylor Chapel, worked for Tupelo High School until he became ill and played in a local band.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 12 at Naylors Chapel CME Church in Pontotoc. Burial was in Pontotoc Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Matthew Freeman, pastor, officiated. Serenity Funeral Home and Chapel of Pontotoc was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two children, Curtisha (James) Anderson and Lynett Ray of Kansas City, Kan.; his parents, Charlie A. Ray and Jennette Bell, and two brothers, Charles Ray of Pontotoc, Arnell Penson of Omaha, Neb.; five sisters, Carol Annette Ray Moore, Virginia Johnson, Nicole (Donnell) Wilson, all of Pontotoc, Brenda Penson of Beloit, Vickie Doss of Washington; and his uncle, Billy Autry.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Charlene Ray Siddell.
Pallbearers were Mark McEwen, Donnell Wilson, Charles Ray, William Lindsey, John Buck and Shan Stafford.
