Mary Elaine Wicker Reese

Mary Elaine Wicker Reese, 71, died Feb. 11, 2011, at The Med in Memphis, Tenn. She retired from the Desoto County School District, having taught school in Olive Branch for 49 years. She graduated from Hickory Flat High School and Blue Mountain College.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Feb. 13 at Hickory Flat Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in McKay Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Rev. Johnny Rakestraw and Rev. William Phillips officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a son, Mark Reese (Wendy) of Oxford; two brothers, Fred Wicker of Pontotoc, Kenneth Wicker (Norma) of Tupelo; a special cousin and caregiver, George Wicker of Hickory Flat; a grandson and a great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers were Glenn Cossitt, Jeff Beasley, Carroll Taylor, Don O. Taylor, James Smith and Walter Gadd.

Dan Robinson

Dan Robinson, 93, of Flint, Mich., formerly of Potts Camp, died Feb. 9, 2011, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Flint. He was the widow of Vera Robinson, a member of the steward board and retired farmer and construction worker.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 19 at Mt. Teamer CME Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Gwen Nelson will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a daughter, Carolyn Greer of Aurora, Ill.; five sons, Gary Wicks of Flint, Michael Robinson, Freddie Robinson, both of Aurora, Carl Robinson of Jackson, Tommy Ray Robinson of Potts Camp; five stepchildren, K.C. Wicks, Freeman Wicks, both of St. Louis, Mo., Oliver Wicks of Holly Springs, Vorece Glover of Aurora, Betty Walton of Springfield, Ill.; 41 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Robinson.

Barbara Fournie

Barbara Fournie, 92, of Fulton, died Feb. 9, 2011, at the Meadows Nursing Home in Fulton. She was the widow of William L. Fournie, a Protestant and a public health nurse.

Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ann Armstrong

Ann Boren Armstrong of Jackson, 79, died Jan. 3, 2012. She was the widow of James S. Armstrong. She graduated from Potts Camp High School and attended Blue Mountain College. She was a member of the Euzelian Society. She was a member of the Wesley Foundation. She was a retired banker, working 20 years in the banking and savings and loan industry, where she achieved the level of vice president. She was very active in her church and served on many committees. She was a den mother for Cub Scouts.

Services were held at 9 a.m. on Jan. 6 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church.

She leaves a daughter, Sherrel Ann (Keith) Moffat of Ridgeland; two sons, James S. (Fran) Armstrong Jr. and Mark S. Armstrong of Valdosta, Ga.; a brother, Norris H. (Erla) Boren of Moraga, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and caregivers Bea Brown and Elsie Echols.

She was preceded in death by her son, Allen B. Armstrong; and brother, George W. (Billy) Boren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthews UMC of Madison, and the television ministry of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.

Ollie Chairs

Ollie Chairs, 76, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs, died Jan. 4, 2012 in Chicago. He was a member of Hudsonville CME Church. He sang tenor professionally in the family gospel quartet “The Southern Jubilee.” He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Masons. He was employed as a printing pressman with W.F. Hall Printing Co. in Chicago for 15 years and with Kentile Tile and Flooring Co. as a tile cutter, for 10 years.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Jan. 13 from 2-6 p.m. and at the church, Jan. 14 from 12 noon to 12:55.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 14 at Hudsonville CME Church with burial in Isom Chapel Cemetery in Holly Springs. Elder Bobby G. Wilson will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Vera Bailey Chairs; five children, Deborah Bailey of Chicago, Ronald Chairs of Bellwood, Ill., Tareylon Chairs of Valparaiso, Ind., Lezondra Chairs and LaShundra Chairs, both of Chicago; five sisters, Louise Coleman, Lorine Chairs, Annie Mae Chairs, Maxcine Archbell-Chairs and Freddie Hayes, all of Holly Springs, Alice Coleman of Memphis, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Chairs; and three brothers, Larry Gatewood Sr., F.C. Chairs and Edward Chairs Sr.

Tommy Esmon

Tommy L. Esmon, 58, died Dec. 21, 2011. He was born July 25, 1953, in New Albany.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 27 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Potts Camp Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two sons, Tommy Esmon II of Holly Springs, Shane Esmon of Potts Camp; three sisters, Wanda Derrick, Judy Pannell of Red Banks, Sandra Lee of Southaven; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Rod Hulsey, Richard Hulsey, Craig Pannell, Brad Pannell, Johnny Brown, Shane Frankum, Johnny Gibbons and Kenny Young. Honorary pallbearers were Doug Newell, Daniel Gibbons, Ricky Taylor, James Gibbons, Shannon Gibbons, Scotty Rodgers, Steve Rodgers and Paul Gibbons.

Stacey Renee Allen Feathers

Stacey Renee Allen Feathers, 37, of Lamar, died Jan. 6, 2012, at her home. She was Baptist.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 8 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek Cemetery in Lamar. Bro. Casey Russell officiated.

She leaves her husband, Mark Feathers; two sons, Matthew Feathers, Justin Feathers, both of Lamar; her father, Charles Allen of Lamar; her mother, Rose Skelton (Charles) of Holly Springs; her daughter, Victoria Sue Feathers of Lamar; stepdaughters, Emma Hancock, Erika Hancock, both of Lamar; three brothers, Stanley Allen (Jennifer) of Lamar, Stephen Skelton (Chris) of Holly Springs, Mike Skelton of Tupelo.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Marvel and Jimmie Allen, Mary Lou and Jack Skelton and Hayes Brown.

Richard Allen Gilmer

Richard Allen Gilmer, 50, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 6, 2012, at home. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and a truck driver.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 9 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Bro. Charlie Knight officiated.

He leaves his father, Billie Gilmer; his mother, Dorothy Gilmer; his brother, Billy W. Gilmer; his sister, Cynthia Freeze, all of Holly Springs.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Kevin Gilmer.
