Lester Givens
Lester Givens, 75, of Hickory Flat, died Dec. 23, 2011, at his home.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 29 at Serenity Funeral Home. Burial was in McKay Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Pastor Brownie Tohill of New Albany officiated.
He leaves a sister, Martha Toliver; and two brothers, James Givens and Henry Givens.
Pallbearers were Justin Akin, Steve Dodson, Bobby Greer, Ricky Pipkin, Rick Pipkin and Doug Stanton.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gwen Hurt and Hazel Givens; and four brothers, Willie Jr., Sylvester, Waldell and Charlie Givens.
Gary Eric Love
Gary Eric Love, 27, of Red Banks, died Jan. 1, 2012 at his home. He was Baptist and a swimming pool builder.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 4 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his daughter, Amiyah Love; his father, Craig Love; his mother, Janet Roberts; and a stepbrother, Mark Roberts.
Columbus Luellen
Columbus Luellen, 66, of Slayden, died Jan. 3, 2012 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. He worked in construction most of his life.
Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 7 at Concord MB Church in Slayden, where he was a member. Pastor Harvey Garrison officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Fannie Mae Luellen; a son, Earl Spencer (Neice) of Memphis, Tenn.; five daughters, Brenda Harris of Red Banks, Patricia Spencer of Lamar, Kivia L. Moore (Tony) of Memphis, Lakesha Luellen of Byhalia, Jasmine Luellen (Nancy) of Byhalia; a daughter, Regina Kimble; four brothers, Kimet L uellen Jr. (Emma Jean) of Memphis, Jimmie Lee Luellen of Memphis, Leon Gatewood of Memphis, Hardy Strickland (Genell) of Somerville, Tenn.; four sisters, Eva Lee Ambrose (Eddie) of Holly Springs, Maggie Luellen of Memphis, Venelsa Buntyn of Rossville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Henry Luellen.
Pallbearers were Stanley Ambrose, Robert Lee Jones, Terrence McGauyhey, Lorenzo Ambrose, Tedric McGauyhey and Willie Earl McGauyhey. Honorary pallbearers were Leon Gatewood, Joe Cotton, Bruce Ambrose and Tony Moore.
Freeman Phillips Jr.
Freeman “Bopete” Phillips Jr., 49, died Nov. 19, 2011. He was a member of Union Valley Baptist Church in Byhalia. He was formerly employed by Krag Plumbing Company and was an artist.
Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 31 at M.J. Edwards and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Memphis, Tenn. Pastor Joe L. Richmond officiated. Burial was in Union Valley Baptist Church Cemetery in Byhalia.
He leaves his parents, Freeman Sr., Bobbie Phillips; his brother, D’wayne Phillips; four children, Jamal Phillips, Marissa Craig, Keyvion Phillips, Freemya Phillips; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Bowens.
Pallbearers were Alonto Hopkins, Terry Phillips, Bobby Street, Cassell Knox, Larondo Spears and Bobby Lee Spears. Honorary pallbearers were D’wayne Phillips, Jerry Clayton, M.L. Rayford, Mike Miller, Jamal Phillips, Robert DeBerry, Ishmal Durden, Emmitt Jones, Cecil Ingram, Carl DeBerry, Orndorff Matthews Jr. and Lonnie Jones.
Mary Pauline Roberson
Mary Pauline Roberson, 77, of Red Banks, died Jan. 7, 2012. She was the widow of Marvin E. Roberson, her husband of 50 years.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 11 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial was in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn.
She leaves her son, Marvin E. Roberson Jr. (Charlotte); and grandson John T. Roberson of Collierville, Tenn.
Marcus Scruggs Sr.
Marcus Scruggs Sr., 80, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 30, 2011, in Southaven. He was a retired railroad worker. He was a member of Independence Masonic Lodge #81 and a member of Mt. Gillead CME Church.
Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 7 at Chulahoma MB Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in Mt. Gillead Cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home of Senatobia was in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Thomas
Bobby Thomas, 54, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 8, 2012, at his home. He was a restaurant food preparer.
Visitation will be Jan. 11, 2-7 p.m. with the family receiving visitors from 6-7 p.m. and on Jan. 12, from 12 noon until 12:55.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 12 at Sand Hill MB Church in Lamar, where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Elder Actavitis Allen will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his mother, Rosie Lee Thomas of Holly Springs; a grandson, Twayna Hudson of Memphis, Tenn.; seven sisters, Brenda Reynolds, Dianne Thomas, Annie Jean Spight, all of Holly Springs, Verlean Dowdy of Sugar Grove, Ill., Virginia Jones of Minneapolis, Minn., Martha Cooper and Elenor Clayborn, both of Memphis; and three brothers, James Earl Thomas, David Thomas, both of Holly Springs, and Marcus Dortch of Memphis.
He was preceded in death by two children, Monshia Hudson and Christopher Thomas.
Gladys Clarene Warrell
Gladys Clarene Warrell, 61, of Memphis, Tenn., died Jan. 4, 2012, at her home. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and employed at Circle K.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 7 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Bro. Phil Anderson officiated.
She leaves two sons, Walter Free (Sherry) of Corinth, Edward Free (Carolyn) of Horn Lake; a daughter, Diane Vincent (Albert) of McMinnville, Tenn.; two brothers, Charles Cook of Lexington, Tenn., David Cook of Boliver, Tenn.; a sister, Agnes Gray of Memphis, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
