Victoria Jones Lucas
Victoria Jones Lucas, 93, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died May 7, 2012, at her home. She was the widow of Crawford Alphonso Lucas. She was a retired teacher with Memphis City Schools after 30 years.
Services were held at 12 noon on May 11 at Temple of Love CME Church in Memphis, where she was a member. Burial was in Chulahoma MB Church Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Calverta McMorris officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves three children, Alice Lucas-Meeks, Crawford Lucas, Charles Lucas, all of Memphis; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Willie Thomas Matthews
Willie Thomas Matthews, 81, of Batesville, formerly of Benton County, died May 8, 2012, at his home. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and church trustee and a self-employed farmer.
Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on May 13 at Mt. Zion CME Church in Benton County, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Roosevelt Gage officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Sarah Kuykendoll Matthews; a daughter, Chyleen M. Gage (Rev. Roosevelt Gage) of Okolona; three stepdaughters, Joan Johnson, Elizabeth Jones, April Chapman, all of Batesville; a stepson, Eric Chapman of Batesville; a brother, Jerry Elliott of Ashland; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two children, Benjamin F. Matthews and Willie Thomas Matthews Jr.
Marvell Moore
Marvell Moore, 53, died May 3, 2012. He was a member of Pleasant Hill CME Church and later New Life in Christ in Olive Branch.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on May 12 at New Stinson Community Church, Rossville, Tenn. Rev. Melvin Fitchpatrick, pastor. Rev. Reginald Saine, eulogist. Burial was in Hudsonville CME Church Cemetery.
He leaves his fianceé, Angela Watkins; his daughters, Staice Williams of Memphis, Tenn., Curtise Jones of Red Banks, Sherise Sims of Holly Springs, Shagrace Walker of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Cornelius Pritchard of Red Banks; sisters Jennette Sullivan of Rossville, Tenn., Terrie (James) McAfee of Mt. Pleasant; a stepsister, Forestine Taylor; brothers William Scott (Deborah) Moore, Ralph Moore, Alvin Moore of Mt. Pleasant, Ricky Robinson, L.C. Robinson, Willie James Malone of Memphis; a stepbrother, Robert Brewster.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Alberta Bridget, Versie Wright; and two brothers, Sammie Howell and James Edward Howell.
Pallbearers were William Scott Moore Jr., Alvin Anderson, Brandon Moore, Eddrick McAfee, LaCarlos Robinson and Agusta King. Honorary pallbearers were Cornell Winton Jr., Erric Little, Leondrius Robinson, George Braxton, Albert Franklin, Edward McAfee, Kenny Wright, Dwight Shaw, Leoney Robinson, Mitchell Wilson and Billy McKinnie Jr.
Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Brenda Ann Cox Vick
Brenda Ann Cox Vick, 54, of Hickory Flat, died May 10, 2012, at Baptist Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. She was a former employee of Sunbeam and Woodcraft and a member of First Baptist Church of Potts Camp.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 13 at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley. Burial was in New York Cemetery in Ripley. Bro. Paul Hicks officiated.
She leaves her husband, Nicky Vick; three daughters, Christy Ann Theisen (Daniel) of Mt. Vernon, Wash., Stacy Nicole Vick of Blue Mountain, Nikki Leann Vick of Hickory Flat; two brothers, Romer R. Cox, Marty Cox, both of Hickory Flat; and three grandchildren.
Addie Mae Skelton Allen
Addie Mae Skelton Allen, 92, of Ashland, died Sept. 29, 2012, at her home. She was the widow of Relay “Slick” Allen.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 2 at Clear Creek Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Frank Feathers officiated.
She leaves a daughter, Shirley Swain (Gary) of Cornersville; four sons, David Allen (Ruby) of Ashland, Roy Allen (Peggy Jean) of Rosemark, Tenn., J.C. Allen (Nancy) of Ripley, Joel Allen of Ashland; a sister, Myrtice Newcome of Ashland; a brother, J.W. Skelton (Connie) of Ashland; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Leon Allen; three sisters, Mag Bolden, Britt Tice and Gracie “Tot” Allen; four brothers, James “Bilbo” Skelton, John L. Skelton, Jack Skelton and Billy Skelton; three grandchildren, Michael Warren Allen, Douglas Dewayne Allen and Tonya Denise Allen; and three great-grandchildren.

Frederick McKinney Belk Jr.
Frederick McKinney “Fred M.” Belk Jr., died Sept. 29, 2012, at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law. He was a practicing attorney in Marshall County 47 years and served as the Marshall County prosecuting attorney for 31 of those years. During the course of his distinguished career, he was a Special Master in Chancery, Mississippi Supreme Court appointed interim chancery judge, a member of the Mississippi and Tennessee Bar Associations, member of the Mississippi Trial Lawyer’s Association, president of the Marshall County Bar Association, president of the Mississippi Prosecutor’s Association, Outstanding Young Man of America, Who’s Who in American Politics, a member of the Governor’s Criminal Justice Planning Commission, served as a Mississippi State Senator, chairman of the City of Holly Springs Planning Commission, director of Marshall County Civil Defense, president and director of the Holly Springs Jaycees, president of Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce and co-owner/editor of The Marshall Messenger.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., Oct. 3, at the Holly Springs Funeral Home, with services at 1 p.m. on Oct. 4 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery. Bro. Joe Lusby of First Baptist Church in Holly Springs and Bro. Milton Whatley of the First Methodist Church in Holly Springs will officiate.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Linda Kay Moore Belk; four children, daughter Letitia “Tish” Summerlin (Jim); sons Fred M. Belk III (Anna), Fielding Belk (Cindy), Jonathan Belk (Linsey); and six grandchildren, Anna, Wil, Fielding Jr., Frederick, Alex and Lucy.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Leta Ellis Belk Richardson; and his parents, Frederick M. Belk Sr. and Leta Ellis Belk.
The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Marshall County Historical Museum.
James Luther Berryhill
James Luther Berryhill, 65, of Fountain Inn, S.C., died Sept. 21, 2012 at his home. He was a retired business owner of Berryhill Home Remodeling and former director of special projects at Ryan’s Family Steak House in Greer. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 192 and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Fountain Inn.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 24 at Cannon Funeral Home Chapel Rev. Mike Bearden officiated. Burial was in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
He leaves his wife, Dot Berryhill; daughters Sherry Gladwin (Richard), Angela Scott (Bobby); sisters Nancy Moncrief, Becky Pitts (Robert); brothers Bobby Berryhill (Leah) and Terry Berryhill (Bonnie); three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Riley.

Susie Etta Mull
Susie Etta Mull, 69, of Memphis, Tenn., died Sept. 26, 2012, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. She was a church usher, a member of the Mother’s Board, Missionary Society, BTU, Bible class, Sunday school, Baptist Nurture and retired factory worker with Ivers & Pond Piano Company in Memphis.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 6 at Union Grove MB Church in Memphis, where she was a member. Burial was in Roberts Chapel CME Church Cemetery. Rev. Robert C. Jones officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Eddie Lee Mull of Memphis; five sons, Travis Mull of San Diego, Calif., David Mull, Irvin Mull, Eddie Earl Mull, Lee Mull, all of Memphis; three daughters, Barbara Mull, Susie M. Mull, Helen Mull, all of Memphis; three sisters, Ardella Brown, Mary Ann Watkins, both of Moscow, Tenn., Lugean Walker of Memphis; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
