Margaret Sommers
Margaret Sommers, 72, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 14, 2012, at Baptist DeSoto in Southaven. She was the widow of Floyd Sommers.
Services will be held at a later date. Holly Springs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Tayla Parker of Millington, Tenn.
Jesse H. Cade Jr.
Jesse H. “Jack” Cade Jr., former resident of Noxubee and Kemper Counties, died Dec. 27, 2010, in Byhalia. He was the widower of Bertha Cade. He enjoyed years of successful pro baseball as batting champion of the Florida State League, as well as a recipient of All-American honors with the EMJC Lions and coach Boll Sullivan and was inducted into the Amateur Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.
He leaves his sister, Mildred Cade Mickler of Neptune Beach, Fla., and his loving and devoted friend Martha.
Mary B. Carpenter
Mary B. “Sis” Carpenter, 90, of Lamar, died Feb. 5, 2011, at her home. She was the widow of Guy Carpenter and a member of Lamar Presbyterian Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 8 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Rev. Don Wilson officiated.
She leaves a son, Elwood Carpenter (Linda) of Conyers, Ga.; two daughters, Marilyn C. Joyner of Memphis, Tenn., Sarah Gullick (Richard) of Lamar; three sisters, Addie Mae Bolden, Mable Boone, both of Holly Springs, Frances Allen of Lamar; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son.
Pallbearers were Barry Carpenter, Kevin Semler, Jack Crawford, Scott Carpenter, Sean Crawford and Cody Semler. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Byrd, Allen Byrd, Lawrence Byrd, Jerry Bolden, Johnny Bolden, Joel Allen, Ken Allen, Cliff Boone, Mike Boone, Steven Boone, Tommy Byrd, Jessie Byrd and Adam Byrd.
Catherine Odell Cathey
Catherine Cathey, 96, of Waco, Texas and teacher in the Waco public schools, passed away Monday, January 31, 2011, at her residence. She was the widow of Tox L. Cathey. A teacher for more than 50 years, she had a long career in the Waco school system, teaching at Sanger Avenue Elementary School for many years. All of her teaching was at the elementary level, mostly the third grade. She loved to visit Holly Springs, and research her family’s past.
Services were 1 p.m., Wednesday, February 2, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd., with the Dr. Matt L. Snowden officiating. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery.
She leaves two sons, Robert Odell Cathey and Toxey William Cathey.

Carlos L. Dortch
Carlos L. Dortch, 34, of Shreveport, La., formerly of Holly Springs, died Jan. 31, 2011, at Willis Knight and North Hospital in Shreveport. He was a carpenter.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 12 at New Bethel MB Church in Moscow, Tenn., where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Calvin Mason will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Sophia Kirkland Dortch of Ripley; two daughters, Breshunna Dortch of Holly Springs, Catera Dortch of Ripley; a son, Carlos Dortch Jr. of Shreveport; five stepchildren; his mother, Zeffie Dortch Wicks of Waterford; his father, Eurston Luellen of Slayden; his stepfather, Shawn Wicks of Waterford; his grandmother, Hazel Wicks of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, Donnell Dortch of Holly Springs, Kirt Dortch of Hickory Flat; two half-sisters, Shannon Wicks Caldwell of St. Louis, Gina Luellen of Slayden; and three half-brothers, Jacory Wicks of Memphis, Tenn., Brandon Wicks of Holly Springs, Eurston Luellen Jr. of Slayden.
Deborah Hawthorne
Deborah Hawthorne, 55, of Myrtle, died Feb. 4, 2011, at Baptist Hospital Union County. She married David McDonald and later Preston Hawthorne.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on Feb. 6 at Serenity Funeral Home, New Albany Chapel. Burial was in Ingomar Cemetery. Bro. Kenny Davis and Sis. Ann Moody officiated.
She leaves a son, Mark McDonald (Samantha); six sisters, Bettey Smith of Pontotoc, Ann Dillard (Jimmy), Kathy Cleveland, both of New Albany, Faye Derrick (Harold), Shirley Davis Johnson (John David) of Potts Camp, Arlene Colston (Kenny) of Holly Springs; stepmother, Ethel Jumper of Myrtle; and three grandchildren.
Earlene Glover LeSure
Earlene Glover LeSure, 98, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 3, 2011, at her home. She was the widow of Earnest LeSure Sr., a member of the church usher board and church mother’s board.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Feb. 12 at Hopewell No. 2 MB Church in Hudsonville, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Danny Kimbrough will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She leaves four sons, Earnest LeSure Jr., George Scales, both of Holly Springs, John Thomas LeSure of Memphis, Tenn., Willie Gene LeSure of Aurora, Ill.; three daughters, Eskerlene Ford of Memphis, Mary Sims, Nina Brice, both of Holly Springs; a sister, Carlean Cannon of Memphis; a brother, Dave Glover of Holly Springs; 42 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Dallas Kimbrough Marion
Dallas Kimbrough Marion, 90, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 4, 2011, at Alliance HealthCare System. She was the widow of Hubert Marion.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Feb. 12 at Hudsonville CME Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Bobby Wilson will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She leaves five daughters, Asie Scales of Chicago, Ill., Earnestine Marion, Geraldine Glover, Rose Lumpkin, Korene Marion, all of Holly Springs; two sons, Robert Earl McKinney, Clifford Marion, both of Holly Springs; 41 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three children, Hubert Lee Marion Jr., Jacqueline Marion and Cecil Marion.
Maria Mercedes Rodriques Mora
Maria Mercedes Rodriques Mora, 68, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 2, 2011, at her home.
Burial was in San Sebastianito Cemetery in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mackey Bethel Rodgers
Mackey Bethel Rodgers, 70, of Byhalia, died Feb. 2, 2011, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a retired salesman with Parts Inc., an MA Booster Club member, an avid Ole Miss fan, loyal supporter of Marshall Academy athletics, a farmer, cattleman and enjoyed attending grandchildren’s activities.
Services were held at 12 noon on Feb. 5 at Emory Methodist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Leon Burton and Bro. Bob McCustion officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Betty Rodgers; two sons, Steve Rodgers (Lisa) of Byhalia, Gary Rodgers (Shannon) of Middleton, Tenn.; a daughter, Susan Rodgers of Byhalia; a sister, Nancy Boren of Texas; and four grandchildren, Whitt Rodgers, Mallory Rodgers, Bailey Rodgers, Ava Rodgers.
