Ara Ilene Byrd, 75, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 25, 2011, at Alliance HealthCare System. She was Pentecostal, a member of Heritage Apostolic Church, a beautician and a Holly Springs Utility dispatcher.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 28 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Bro. Tony Roberts, Bro. Steve Wilson and Bro. Frank Feathers officiated.
She leaves her son, Joe Byrd (Karen) of Holly Springs; a daughter, Robin Steele (Richard) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Dorothy Carlton of Holly Springs; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Dean Byrd.
Richard F. Clark
Richard F. Clark, 58, of Red Banks, died Jan. 23, 2011, at his home. He worked for Kellogg’s for 37 years, most recently in the warehouse.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 26 at Collierville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville, Tenn.
He leaves his longtime companion, Sarah C. Ball of Red Banks; his mother, Aileen Clark; his sister, Carol Rial; and four brothers, David, Bobby, Mike and Tommy Clark.

Sonya Drusilla Gordon
Sonya Drusilla Gordon, 50, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died Jan. 22, 2011 at Methodist Hospital South in Memphis, Tenn. She was a former employee of the IRS.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 28 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Raymond Muhammad officiated.
She leaves a daughter, Kanika Muhammad of Chicago; a son, Frederick Gordon of Pontiac, Ill.; her mother, Shelby Jean Muhammad of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Dante Shon Gordon of Phoenix, Ariz., Christopher Gordon of Chicago; and two grandchildren.
Johnny Dexter Johnson
Johnny Dexter Johnson, 89, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 22, 2011, at Alliance HealthCare System. He was the widower of Mary Lee Freeman Johnson; a former member of McIntyre MB Church, chairman of the deacon board at McIntyre, delegate to the Baptist Association, member of the Masonic Lodge and a retired orderly at the Union County Hospital.
Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 27 at Providence MB Church, where he was a member. Burial was in McIntyre MB Church Cemetery. Rev. Alonzo Johnson Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves five children, Mulester Johnson, Marion Johnson, Opherine Howell, Dorothy Foster, all of Holly Springs, Curtis Johnson of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Vorice Williams of Toledo, Ohio; several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons Charles Johnson, Odell Johnson, Dexter Johnson and Alonzo Johnson.
Robert Lewis Jones
Robert Lewis Jones, 61, of Lamar, died Jan. 26, 2011, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a U.S. Army veteran and supervisor with Langley Wire & Cloth Company in Collierville, Tenn.
Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 30 at Hudsonville CME Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Bobby Wilson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Doris Luellen Jones of Slayden; five children, Marvin Jones of Olive Branch, Jeremey Pointer of Cordova, Tenn., Debra Wilson of Mt. Pleasant, Wanda Jones, Frenchie Jones, both of Slayden; seven sisters, Charetta Harris, Rosie Fay Stephen, Evelyn Shields, Fannie Stephen, all of Slayden, Mozell Strong of Holly Springs, Ardelia Briggs, Mae Ellen Stephens, both of Memphis; a brother, Eloritt Coleman of Chicago, Ill. and eight grandchildren.
Woodrow Felton Murphy
Woodrow Felton Murphy, 90, of Potts Camp, died Jan. 26, 2011, at the Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Born in Waterloo, Ala., he had resided in the Potts Camp area since 1973, when he moved there from Elkhart, Ind. A veteran of the United States Army, he served during World War II. He had worked as a truck driver and a mechanic at Tutor Ford until he retired.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 28 at Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery. Bishop Steve Wilson, Bishop Steve Spite, Bishop Raymond Bishop, Pastor Jon Vazquez and Rev. Wilson Murphy officiated. Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Joanna Wilson Murphy; a daughter, Kaye Spite of Rochester, NY; four sons, Carlton Murphy of Rochester, Larry Murphy of Montgomery, Ala., Robert Murphy of Albertsville, Ala., Wilson Michael Murphy of Potts Camp; four sisters, Nevada Newton, Dorothy Malone, both of Florence, Ala., Roxie Villars, Lola Hart, both of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Clarence O’Mayes
Clarence O’Mayes, 62, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Marshall County, died Jan. 22, 2011, at Methodist Germantown Hospital. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a retired Federal Express truck driver since 2008.
Services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 28 at Mt. Olive MB Church in Memphis, where he was a member. Burial was in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Rev. Carl Washington officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves six children, Clarence O’Mayes Jr. of Dover, Del., Frederick O’Mayes, Samuel O’Mayes, Athan O’Mayes, all of Memphis, Reneathea of Dover, Shannon O’Mayes of Sharon, Tenn.; a sister, Nannie O’Mayes of Memphis; and 10 grandchildren.
Charles K. Norris
Charles K. Norris, 72, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Jan. 19, 2011, at his home. He was retired from Controlled Data and worked at Elgin Air Force Base, Fla.
He leaves three brothers, Bill Norris of Drummonds, Tenn., Ralph Norris of Taylor, Jerry Norris of Memphis, Tenn.; and three sisters, Dorothy Dorris of Red Banks, Doralyn Carmichael of Adamsville, Tenn., Sandra Padgett of Enid.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Goher.
Mary Ellen Roberts
Mary Ellen Roberts, 85, of Ashland, died Jan. 30, 2011, at her home. She was the widow of James Russell Roberts; a secretary for Farese Law Firm for 39 years, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Ashland Baptist Church for almost 63 years.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 2 at Ashland Baptist Church. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery. Bro. Don Brown will officiate. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her son, James R. Roberts Jr. of Ashland; her daughter, Anita Stokes (Donnie) of New Albany; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mitch Carroll, Larry Nance, J.B. Farese, Mark Orman, Steven Yelverton and Milford Chambers.
