Roy Phillip Powell, 57, of Byhalia, died April 16, 2011. He was an electrician and a Marine veteran of Vietnam.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 19 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery.
He leaves his companion, Anita Pearson of Byhalia; two sons, John Powell (Ashley), Justin Powell (Jessica), both of Iuka; a daughter, Susan Compton of Iuka; three brothers, Lloyd Powell of Byhalia, Steve Powell of Nashville, Tenn., Julius Wynne of Earl, Ark.; three sisters, Debbie Lindsey of Byhalia, Lisa Cummings of Parkton, N.C., Brenda High of Mantachie; and nine grandchildren.
Corrine Thompson Pryor
Corrine Thompson Pryor, 87, of Waterford, died April 13, 2011, at Baptist Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. She was church usher, a choir member, member of Sunrise #166 Order of Eastern Star and a retired factory and domestic worker.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on April 23 at Mt. Peel MB Church in Laws Hill, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Rondias Cox will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Dorthey Jamerson of Champaign, Ill.; five sisters, Pauline Walker (Asa), Irene Frames, both of Urbana, Ill., Margaret Myles, Barbara Ward, both of Pasadena, Calif., Evelyn Walker (Tulsa) of Montgomery, Ill.; four brothers, Tarther “Jack” Thompson (Betty) of Waterford, Lawrence Thompson, Russell Thompson, John Thompson, all of Aurora, Ill.; two grandchildren, Eric Scott Jamerson, Anthony Jamerson (Angela) of Champaign, Ill.; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sisters Tempie Taylor, Lillie Pearl Walker, Cardie Harper, Mammie D. Thompson; brother, Clarence Thompson; and son-in-law, Elmer Jamerson.
Raymond Daniel Smith
Raymond Daniel Smith, 63, of Byhalia, died April 3, 2011 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. He was a Christian, a retired business owner of an auto repair shop and an Army veteran.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 6 at Watson Community Church. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. Bro. Melvin Shackelford officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Evelyn Smith; a son, Kenneth Ray Smith of Byhalia; a daughter, Sharon Renee Vickers of Hickory Flat; four brothers, Wesley C. Smith of North Port, Ala., Rayford Allen Smith of Marion, Ky., Alvin C. Smith of Millington, Tenn., Melvin Smith of Umitila, Fla.; five sisters, Annie V. Smith of West Little Rock, Ark., Kathleen Bates of Moundville, Ala., Joan Parker of Gordo, Ala., Betty Jean Cook of Southaven, Ivy Dean Bizzell of Golden, Mo.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
J.C. Watson
J.C. Watson, 89, of Byhalia, died April 15, 2011, at his home. He was the widower of Martha Watson, a Baptist, a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 17 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Enterprise Cemetery. Bro. Tony Roberts officiated.
He leaves two sons, Robert Watson of Ripley, James Earl Watson of Pontotoc; three daughters, Mary Walker Gray of Hernando, Linda Taylor of Ecru, Kathy Devaughn of Pontotoc; two brothers, Jessie “Red” Watson, Delmer Watson, both of New Albany; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Chris Hogue, Shane Waddle, Timmy Hymans, James Walker, Cody Waddle and Justin Anderson. Honorary pallbearers were Renita Walker, Janice Waddle, Stephanie Anderson and Destiny Waddle.
Deborah Xiques Anderson
Deborah Xiques Anderson, 53, of Lamar, died Feb. 12, 2010 at her home. She was an accountant.
Services were held on Feb. 15. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Mark Arnold Anderson; two daughters, Alisha Marie Dumas of Cordova, Tenn., Suzanne Michelle Hill of Olive Branch; her father, Edward Xiques Sr. of Bartlett, Tenn.; two brothers, Edward Eugene Xiques Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., Thom Xiques of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a sister, Anita Xiques of Bartlett, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
Johnny Floyd Carr
Johnny Floyd Carr, 62, of Ashland, died Feb. 13, 2010 at his home. He was a Baptist and employed with TCI Automotive.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 17 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
He leaves his wife, Judy L. Carr; two sons, Johnny Carr Jr., Michael Carr, both of Byhalia; his mother, Virgie Maxine Carr of Horn Lake; two brothers, Billy Ray Carr of Memphis, Tenn., Richard Carr of Horn Lake; two sisters, Patricia Tennis of Robinsonville, Marilyn Fisher of Dyersburg, Tenn.; and several grandchildren.
Michelle Holbrook
Karen Michelle Holbrook, 28, of Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died at her residence in Knoxville, Feb. 7, 2010.
Services were held at 1 p.m., Feb. 13, at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jim Irvin and Tom Sciandra officiating. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery in Holly Springs.
She leaves one son, Nicholas C. Holbrook of Kodak, Tenn.; her mother, Debi J. Overall of Kodak; her father, Ronald G. Holbrook of Cayce; one sister, Camille Holbrook of Knoxville, Tenn.; her grandmothers, Frances Overall of Falkner, and Vedie Holbrook of Holly Springs; one aunt, Dottie Gadd of Ripley.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Loyd Overall and Frank Holbrook; one aunt, Shelia Pannell.
Willie T. Jamison
Willie T. Jamison, 71, of Red Banks, died Feb. 7, 2010. He was a member ofSt. Matthew MB Church in Byhalia, where he served on the deacon board for many years prior to serving as chairman for more than 30 years. He also served as Sunday school superintendent and cemetery coordinator. He was employed at Dr. Wright’s Sanitarium, and with the Marshall County Hospital prior to working at the Piggly Wiggly in Byhalia as produce manager for many years until retirement. He also served on the board of directors of Byhalia Family Health Center - Northwest MS Healthcare, Inc. for 12 years.
Services were held at 12 noon on Feb. 13 at St. Matthew MB Church in Byhalia. Pastor Kenneth Artison Sr. officiated. Burial was in St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Gillespie Funeral Home, Olive Branch, was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Annie Mae Jamison; a son, Willie Christopher Jamison of Byhalia; two daughters, Katrina Yolanda Moore of Red Banks, Americus Shantel Jamison of Byhalia; six brothers, Alfred Jamison, Ester T. Jamison, Joe Turnage, all of Memphis, Tenn., Robert Jamison, Sammie Jamison, both of Byhalia, Ester T. Tunstall of Olive Branch; four sisters, Alberta Walls of East St. Louis, Ill., Beatrice Cole, Amy Jamison, Segretta Wilson, all of Byhalia; several in-laws, including Queen Martin of Laws Hill; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Willie Harden, Greg Hughes, Eddie Jones, Floyd Humphreys, James Pitts and Jimmy Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Alfred Jamison, Ester T. Jamison, Robert Jamison, Sammie Jamison, Adolphus Shipp III, Jroy Shipp, Isiah Shipp and Robert C. Shipp.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Hudson, Charity; and three brothers, Sonny, Wyatte and Wavy Jamison.
Shawne Oliver
Shawne Oliver, 38, of New Albany, died Feb. 14, 2010 at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. She was born Jan. 31, 1972 in Aurora, Ill.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 16 at Locust Grove Church. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Fayette, Mo. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her children, Amber Liemkuler of New Albany, Jacob Oliver of Missouri; her parents, Sylvester Oliver of Yorkville, Ill., Debra Long of Potts Camp; her fiance, Mike Lewis of New Albany; and her siblings, Luis Diaz of Pontiac, Ill., Robert Smithey of New Albany, Kimberly Hale of Potts Camp, Amander Oliver, Kelly Oliver, both of Aurora, Ill.
She was preceded in death by a son, Devin Oliver.
