Stratford Patterson Childers

Stratford Patterson “Sonny” Childers, 64, of Ashland, died Dec. 27, 2011, at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Batesville. He was a member and president of the Ashland Civic Club and served as president of the Benton County Fair Association for 30 years.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 30 at Ashland Baptist Church. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Bro. William Kemp officiated. Ripley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Leslie Rankin Childers; a daughter, Alice Thomas (Chris) of Ashland; his mother, Mary Patterson Childers of Ashland; a brother, David Childers (Sherry) of Holly Springs; four nieces, Amanda Childers, Emily Childers, Olivia Childers, all of Holly Springs, Gina Costello of Baton Rouge, La.; a nephew, Matthew Cady of San Diego, Calif.; and one grandchild, Jake Thomas.

Pallbearers were William “Dub” Wilson, D. Hoyle Eaton, Richard Tollison, Joe Childers, Pat Patterson, Randy Samples, Wade Griffin and Rudolph Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were W.T. Elliott, Sonny Hawks, Charles Eoff, C.F. Bryan, Rodney Whaley, Robert Patterson and Hugh Buck Tatum.

Gus Lee Crittle III

Gus Lee Crittle III, 28, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 24, 2011, in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of Rising Star MB Church and an H-VAC technician with Trinity Lakes Apartment Complex in Memphis.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 31 at New Dimension Salt & Light Ministries in Holly Springs. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Pastor Actavitis Allen officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Shaletha Williams Crittle; four children, Jamian Williams, Jaleceyah Williams, Gus L. Crittle IV, Garrison Crittle, all of Holly Springs; his mother, DeJeanette Taylor of Holly Springs; his father, Gus Lee Crittle Jr. of Jackson; stepfather, Tony Taylor of Holly Springs, three sisters, Stacy Woodard of Memphis, Stephanie Crittle of Horn Lake, Kristen Crittle of Jackson; three brothers, Caleb Crittle, Matthew Crittle, both of Jackson, Andrew Crittle of Holly Springs; paternal grandmother, Ivion Mae Crittle of Holly Springs; and maternal grandfather, Ralph McKinnon Sr. of Chicago, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Gus Crittle Sr. and maternal grandmother, Minnie Louise Wilson.

Jennie Ash Mitchell

Jennie Ash Mitchell, 90, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 31, 2011, at Alliance Healthcare System in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Wilfred Ash, 20 years; and Junior Mitchell, 20 years. A member of First United Methodist Church in Holly Springs, she was the former owner/operator of Jennie’s Florist and owner of several other local businesses.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 3 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Hill Crest Cemetery.

She leaves a brother, J.B. Work of Potts Camp; and three sisters, Lula Westmoreland of Memphis, Tenn., Agnes Gordon of Hernando, and Ina Faye Thornton of Memphis.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jeanette Dunning and a brother, Andrew Allen Work.

Charles Webb Mosby

Charles Webb Mosby, 60, of Oxford, died Dec. 20, 2011, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. He was a chef and a native of Lafayette County.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 29 at Tallahatchie Oxford MB Association Building. Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Oxford. Bishop Jerald Bailey officiated. Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his companion, Elizabeth Gipson; a son, Charles Webb Mosby Jr. of Oxford; five sisters, Sue Francis Wilson of Jacksonville, Fla., Sandra Louise Scott of Holly Springs, Lauria Maria Kimbrough, Teresa Elizabeth Williams, both of 29 Palms, Calif., Julia Couch of Bedford, Ind.; two brothers, James Thomas Mosby of Memphis, Tenn., George Mosby of Oxford; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mannora Boone Mosby

Mannora Boone Mosby, 94, of 29 Palms, Calif., died Dec. 18, 2011, at her daughter’s residence in 29 Palms. She was a retired presser for City Cleaners and a native of Lafayette County.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 29 at Tallahatchie Oxford MB Association Building. Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Oxford. Bishop Jerald Bailey officiated. Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home in Oxford was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves five daughters, Sue Francis Wilson of Jacksonville, Fla., Sandra Louise Scott of Holly Springs, Lauria Maria Kimbrough, Teresa Elizabeth Williams, both of 29 Palms, Calif., Julia Couch of Bedford, Ind.; two sons, James Thomas Mosby of Memphis, Tenn., George Mosby of Oxford; and 100 grandchildren.

Sylvia Ann Cole Sitzes

Sylvia Ann Cole Sitzes, 55, of Byhalia, died Dec. 31, 2011, at her home. She was a graduate of Overton High School. She was in banking.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 3 at Barton Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. John McMullen officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband of 33 years, Larry Sitzes; two sons, Timothy Strong (Nicole) of Waterloo, N.Y., Brian Sitzes of Byhalia; a daughter, Andrea Adams (Trent) of Barton; two sisters, Denise Box of Olive Branch, Mary Billingsley of Hanford, Ca.; and two grandchildren.

Billy Nunnally

Billy Nunnally, 50, of Byhalia, died Dec. 25, 2011, at his home. He was disabled.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Dec. 31 at Pleasant Grove MB Church in Red Banks, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves four sisters, Janie Dowdy, Mary Campbell, Christine Lyons, all of Holly Springs, Betty Bronson of Collierville, Tenn.; and six brothers, Willie Nunnally of Sacramento, Calif., John L. Nunnally Jr., T.S. Nunnally, both of Holly Springs, Jesse Nunnally, Mark Nunnally, both of Byhalia, Joseph McKinney of Philadelphia, Penn.

He was preceded in death by siblings Susie Isom, Bruce Nunnally, Johnny McKinney, Leroy Nunnally.

Dale Winter Overstreet

Dale Winter Overstreet, 87, died Dec. 17, 2011, at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab. The widow of Joe William Overstreet Sr., she was retired as recruiting coordinator at the University of Mississippi placement department. She was an active member and former secretary of First Baptist Church of Oxford, where she served as a third grade Sunday school director for 40 years. She was a member of the Oxford Pilot Club and the Oxford Squares.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 19 at First Baptist Church. Burial was in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Eric Hankins officiated. Waller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two sons, Joe W. Overstreet Jr. (Kathy) of Germantown, Tenn., James A. “Tony” Overstreet of Biloxi; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six sisters, Emma Waller, Madge Minor, Pauline Robertson, Willie Ruth Lee, Marine Morrow, Josie Garrett; and a brother, Willis Dalton Winter.
