Joyce Ann Pitts, 58, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Waterford, died Dec. 24, 2011, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis. She was a home health aide with Wade’s of Memphis.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 30 at Spring Hill MB Church in Waterford, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. L.G. Bogard officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, LaJoy Patrice Pitts of Burnham, Ill.; six sisters, Joeanna Alexander of Riverside, Calif., Jeanette Edwards of Chicago, Ill., Johnnie Pitts, Alice Starks, Golia Richmond, all of Memphis, Hattie Pitts of Waterford; four brothers, McNeil Pitts, Paul Pitts, both of Waterford, Henry Pitts of Memphis, Russell Pitts of Chicago; and a grandson.
Jerome Marquett Porter
Jerome Marquett Porter, 19, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs, died Dec. 27, 2011, at Advocate Trinity Hospital in Chicago. He was a member of Apostolic Church of God in Chicago, a sophomore at Chicago State University and a music producer.
Memorial services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 2 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs.
He leaves his mother, Shelia Pegues Porter of Chicago; his father, Joseph DuBois Porter of Chicago; two brothers, Joseph V. Porter, Jeremy R. Porter, both of Chicago; and his grandparents, Rev. June and John Porter of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Franzell Pegues of Holly Springs.
Henry Lee Tallie
Henry Lee Tallie, 88, of Lamar, died Dec. 25, 2011, at his home. He was a church usher, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired farmer.
Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 30 at Samuel Chapel MB Church in Ashland, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bishop Clinton Gipson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements
He leaves his wife, Jerlean McKenzie Tallie; nine daughters, Fannie B. Tucker of Potts Camp, Shirley Stephen, Debra Hampton, Patricia Stinson, Allene Tate, all of Memphis, Earline Tate of Olive Branch, Fannie Tate of Southaven, Lottie Brown, Corrine Crittle, both of Holly Springs; five sons, Henry Tallie Jr. of Memphis, Robert Tallie, Sterlin Tallie, both of Lamar, Calvin Tallie, Charlie Tallie, both of Holly Springs; two sisters, Pauline Gibson of Chicago, Ill., Lois Hearns of Las Vegas, Nevada; a brother, Walter Tallie of Chicago; 45 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Albert Tunstall
Albert Tunstall, 69, of Byhalia, died Dec. 26, 2011, at Baptist Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. He was a member of Newell Chapel CME Church in Victoria and a disabled construction worker with Wooten Construction Company.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 at St. Matthew MB Church in Byhalia. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Kenneth Artison officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Bulih Harden Tunstall; five daughters, Ann Tunstall, Thersa Tunstall of Miami, Fla., Melissa Tunstall, Felicia Tunstall, Khadijah Tunstall of Byhalia; four sons, Albert Tunstall Jr., Melvin Tunstall of Milwaukee, Wisc., Alex Tunstall, DeMarious Tunstall of Byahlia; six sisters, Josephine Guy of Byhalia, Mamie Kelly of Indianapolis, Ind., Joeann Tunstall of Victoria, Judy Tunstall of St. Louis, Mo., Sterlean Mims of Memphis, Tenn., Darlene Tunstall of Victoria; seven brothers, Orange Tunstall Jr., Curtis Tunstall, Nathaniel Tunstall, Larry Tunstall, Terry Lee Tunstall, James Edward Tunstall, all of Victoria, Thelmon Tunstall of Cleveland, Ohio; and nine grandchildren.
James Earl “Chubby” Bell Sr.
James Earl “Chubby” Bell Sr., 52, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 25, 2012 at his home. He was a member of Pleasant Grove MB Church in Red Banks and the Ruff Riders 4-Wheel Club. He was a self-employed carpenter.
Visitation will be March 2, 2-7 p.m. at the funeral home, with family present from 6-7 p.m. and March 3, at Rust College Doxey Auditorium from 10-10:55 a.m.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on March 3 at the Rust College Doxey Auditorium. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove MB Church Cemetery. Rev. Columbus Bell will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Errin Greer Bell; four children, LaKeshia Bowen of Holly Springs, James Bell Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., Erik Bell, Emit Bell, both of Holly Springs; his mother, Frankie King Bell of Holly Springs; two sisters, Lela Dukes of Holly Springs, Emma Jean Young of Victoria; five brothers, Columbus Bell of Oxford, Kenneth Bell, Mark Bell, Fredrick Bell, all of Holly Springs, Timothy Bell of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Columbus Hale.
Lillie Mae Cherry
Lillie (Momma) Mae Cherry, 93, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Hollandale, died Feb. 28, 2012, at Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis. She was the widow of L.C. Davis and a member of Pentecostal Temple Church of God In Christ in Memphis.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on March 3 at McCraven Cemetery in Victoria. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Annette (Percy) Richmond; five grandchildren, Rochelle (Orlando) Smith, JoAnne (David) Cowan, Regina Fondren McClyde, Karen (Michael) Anderson, Tara Elena Richmond, all of Memphis; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Shirley Williams.
She was preceded in death by a grandson.
Arthur Dale Hanson Jr.
Arthur Dale Hanson Jr., 69, of Rossville, Tenn., died March 4, 2012. He was a member of Coldwater Baptist Church and a fork lift operator with Con Star Plastic.
Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m. on March 6 at Tabernacle Hill Cemetery in Piperton, Tenn. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Lennie Bolden Hanson; three daughters, Pamela Jean Kimery, Jamie Hansen, both of Rossville, Debra Yager of Moscow, Tenn.; two sisters, Mary Harris of Waterford, Lillie Lumpkin of Ashland; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Dale Potts Hollingsworth
Ruby Dale (Potts) Hollingsworth, 93, of Potts Camp, died Feb. 27, 2012 at Sunshine Health Care, Inc., in Pontotoc. The widow of L.D. Hollingsworth, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Potts Camp, a community correspondent for The South Reporter for approximately 30 years, a known genealogist for the area, author of a book “Memories of Potts Camp on the Old Pontotoc Trail,” and great-great-granddaughter of Col. Erasmus and Elizabeth Brownlee Potts, the first settlers of Potts Camp.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 29 at United Funeral Home in New Albany. Burial was in Potts Camp Cemetery.
She leaves two sons, Jimmy L. Hollingsworth (Martha) of Tupelo, Dr. Dan Potts Hollingsworth (Elizabeth) of Demorest, Ga.; a daughter, Betty Hollingsworth Greer (David) of the Cornersville community; nine grandchildren: Vickie Lea Winter (Earl), David Hollingsworth (Teresa); Sonya Kidd (Greg); Tracy Pipkin (Bobby); David Greer, Jr. (Amy), Dr. Liesa Harte, Luke Hollingsworth, Clark Hollingsworth, and Jake Hollingsworth; and 16 great-grandchildren: Skylar Brooke Griffin, David Greer III, Mary Greer, Hannah Greer, Lilah Shepherd, Julia Blond, Mireille Blond, Olivia Blond, Nathan Blond, Lewis Blond, Alex Griffin, Lindsey Winter, Brittany Griffin, Sarah Lambert Hollingsworth, Suzette Hollingsworth and Zach Winter.
