Emily Pryor Roberson
Emily Pryor Roberson, 83, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died April 26, 2008 at Methodist Hospital South in Memphis. She was the widow of Hugh Roberson. She was a retired laborer with Decor Noel in Memphis.
Services were held at 12 noon on May 3 at Mt. Peel MB Church in Memphis, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. R.A. Cox officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves six daughters, Parthenia Thompson of Aurora, Ill., Juanita Addison, Rev. Elaine Westbrook, Shelia Roberson, Hattie Roberson, Karen Smith, all of Memphis, Tenn.; five sons, Alonzo (Ricky) Roberson of Alexandria, Va., Oscar Roberson of Memphis, Calvin Roberson of Minneapolis, Minn., James Roberson, Gerald Roberson, both of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Mandie Wilson, Bettie Thompson, both of Waterford, Nancy Hickan of Des Moines, Iowa; 37 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Alonzo Roberson, Oscar L. Roberson, Gerald D. Roberson, James E. Roberson, Calvin L. Roberson and Allarick D. Roberson. Honorary pallbearers were the Mt. Peel Official Board.
Richard Adams Smith
Richard Adams Smith, 66, of Oxford, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He served in the United States Air Force, was a graduate of Mississippi State University and was retired from the Mississippi Department of Transportation where he served as an agronomist for 32 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Comodore Smith and mother, Pearl Norfleet Smith of Tyro. He leaves his wife, Linda Moore Eubank Smith; his sons, Kent Elliot Smith and his wife Amanda Whaley Smith of Holly Springs, Stephen Richard Smith of Meadville; his daughters, Leah Eubank Dossett of Hermosa Beach, Calif. and Lisa Eubank Whalen and her husband, Rich Whalen of Poughkeepsie, NY; three grandchildren, Jackson Whaley Smith, Zoe Covington Whalen and Luke Whitman Whalen. He also leaves three sisters, Ann Smith Welch of Long Beach, California, Faye Smith St. John Woods of Byhalia, and Bonnie Smith Schwartz of Germantown, Tenn.
Wyndell D. Vann
Wyndell D. Vann, 71, of Memphis, Tenn., died May 2, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital. He was a retired air cargo employee with Delta Airlines and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 4 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Carey Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Anthony Lynch officiated.
He leaves a son, Alan Vann of Byhalia; a brother, Reid Vann of St. Louis, Mo.; and a grandchild, Blake Vann.
Pallbearers were Bill Graham, Eric Lynch, Chase Murphy, Terry Edge Jr. and Daniel Devore.
Martha W. Watson
Martha W. Watson, 82, of Byhalia, died April 28, 2008 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 1 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek Cemetery.
She leaves her husband, J.C. Watson; two brothers, Calvin Bolden of Russellville, Ala., Robert Bolden of Tuscumbia, Ala.; two sisters, Jane Floyd of Booneville, Betty Dees of Byhalia; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Davis.
Howard Lee White
Howard Lee White, 78, of Byhalia, died May 4, 2008 at Memphis Jewish Home in Memphis, Tenn. He was a retired landscaper.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 7 at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope.
He leaves his wife, Emelder O. Catlett White; three sons, David Hartley of Hemstead, Tx., Howard Wayne White of Byhalia, Jerry Walker of Cleveland; two sisters, Sarah Pauline Wimberly of Marks, Mittylene Goodwin of Holiday, Tenn.; and six grandchildren.
Stanley Bezzo Sr.
Stanley Bezzo Sr., 77, of Iuka, died May 10, 2008 at N. MS Medical Center. He was a member of New Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Pickwick, Tenn. He was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration in 1979 after 28 years of service as an electronic engineer. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He became a member of the Masonic Lodge in 1959. He and his family owned and operated Ashland Hardware Store for approximately 15 years.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 13 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Bro. Paul Childers officiated.
He leaves his wife, Judy Bezzo; three sons, Stanley Bezzo Jr. of Ashland, Brice L. Bezzo of Ripley, stepson Tony Smith of Savannah, Tenn.; four daughters, Candy B. Crane of Collierville, Tenn., Vikki M. Galloway of South Carolina, Pam A. Schaffer of Ohio, stepdaughter Angel Smith of Nashville, Tenn.; three sisters, Margaret Choate of Olive Branch, Basil Lee Meetze of Bartlett, Tenn., Joy Coen of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Calvin Hightower, Cory Smith, Morris Blake, David Childers, Jim Griffin, Arnie McMullen and Danny Hobson.
Ethelbert Edwards
Ethelbert (Ed) Edwards, 84, of Starkville, died May 7, 2008 at Oktibbeha County Hospital. At church he served on the Visual Aids Committee for several years, was a Sunday school teacher in the junior department and R.A. leader. He was a long time member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star. He was a past civil defense communication officer for the city of Starkville. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a business owner for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985. His companies, Edd’s Body Shop and Harley Davidson of Starkville, were known for their excellent workmanship and honest, reliable service.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on May 10 at First Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial was in Oktibbeha Memorial Gardens Park. Welch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Dorothy; a son, Jim; a sister, Annette Walker; a brother, M.C. Edwards; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, George.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Capital Campaign First Baptist Church and Gilberts Hospice Care.
Estelle Glass Faulkner
Estelle Glass Faulkner, 91, of Holly Springs, died May 3, 2008 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was the widow of Roosevelt Faulkner. She was a member of Hopewell No. 1 MB Church, Missionary Society and Mother Board. She was a retired domestic worker in private homes.
Services were held at 12 noon on May 10 at Rust College Doxey Auditorium. Burial was in Powell Chapel MB Church Cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves six daughters, Ella Bell Malone of Holly Springs, Minnie Faulkner, Betty Faulkner, Freddy Moore, all of Memphis, Tenn., Bertha Wright, Emma Lathan, both of Omaha, Neb.; five sons, Lefant Faulkner, Jim Faulkner, Joe Faulkner, all of Memphis, Tenn., Gene Faulkner, of Detroit, Mich., Sammie Faulkner of Olive Branch; 55 grandchildren 80 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Andre’ Jones, Kevin C. Freeman, Maurice Craine, Odell Lesure Jr., Mitchell C. Freeman, Tony D. Wright, Steve Hannah and Gary A. Faulkner. Honorary pallbearers were Lefant Faulkner, Gene A. Faulkner, Jim W. Faulkner, Joe I. Faulkner and Sammie R. Faulkner.
