Joseph Whitley Cocke
Joseph Whitley Cocke, 74, of Holly Springs, died March 15, 2009 at Baptist Oxford Hospital. He was Presbyterian, a member of Hudsonville Presbyterian Chapel and a farmer.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on March 18 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Old Hudsonville Cemetery.
He leaves a son, Whitley Carter Cocke of Holly Springs; two daughters, Beth Cocke Napier of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., Joy Cocke of Lamar; two sisters, Ann Carpenter, Virginia Mitchell, both of Holly Springs; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Virginia Mosley Cook
Virginia (Berd) Mosley Cook, 34, of New Albany, died March 8, 2009 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mallalieu United Methodist Church, where she served in the youth choir; later she united with Union Prospect MB Church, where she served in the missionary group. She graduated from W.P. Daniel High School. She was employed with Piper Impact until she became disabled.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 12 at 1 p.m. at Union Prospect Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. John Johnson officiated. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her parents, Thomas and Jessie Faye Mosley of New Albany; two sons, Jamal M. Cook, Austin L. Cook, both of New Albany; two sisters, Tammie Floyd, Chandra Waldrop, both of New Albany; a brother, Shields Nesbit of Iraq; grandparents, Virginia Nesbit, Eurezie Mosley of New Albany; and godchildren, Devin Snow of Holly Springs, Chris and Faye Brown, Jamya Lipford of New Albany.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Mosley; her grandfather, Harden Nesbit and grandmother, Isabella Mosley.
Margaret Marie Darrah
Margaret Marie Darrah, 73, of Holly Springs, died March 11, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Collierville, Tenn.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on March 14 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Wilburton, Okla. Father Leonard Elder, Scg officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Richard Darrah; two daughters, Suzie Sexton, Denise Darrah, both of Holly Springs; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie McClatchy.
Thomas A. Dickerson
Thomas A. (Tommy) Dickerson, 64, of Holly Springs, died March 13, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and owner/operator of Southside Grocery/service station.
Services were held at at 2 p.m. on March 16 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Bro. Randy Smith officiated.
He leaves his wife, Irene Shelby Dickerson; three daughters, Cindy Allen, Donna Wagner, Tammy McGreger, all of Holly Springs; a sister, Billie Barkley of Holly Springs; a stepsister, Sue Colella of Holly Springs; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Chad Dickerson.
Pallbearers were Eddie Owens, Keith Owens, Tommy Shoffner, Mike Lemons, Raymond Bates and Tony Clark. Honorary pallbearers were Shane McGreger, Devin McGreger, Trey Allen and Dusty McClusky.
Chadwick Forsythe Duncan
Chadwick Forsythe Duncan, 17, of Falkner, died March 12, 2009 in Lamar. He was a member of New Hope Baptist, a student, volunteer firefighter and search and rescue volunteer.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 15 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Butler Cemetery in Potts Camp. Bro. Jim Buchanan officiated.
He leaves his father, Stacy Duncan of Ashland; his mother, Tammye Kirkland of Falkner; grandfathers, Donald Henderson of Holly Springs, Freeman Duncan of Michigan City; grandmothers, Gayle Jordan of Ashland, Katherine Duncan of Ashland; and a sister, Krystle Duncan of Falkner.
He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Lewis; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Payton; paternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Duncan, Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Henderson.
Pallbearers were the Falkner Fire Department and Daniel Johnson.
Jessie Beatrice Thompson Echols
Jessie Beatrice Thompson Echols, 94, of Holly Springs, died March 11, 2009 at her home. She was the widow of Rev. Carl Lee Echols, a church soloist, church missionary, member of the Daughters of Zion and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 15 at Providence MB Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Bowens Cemetery. Rev. Alonzo Johnson Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two sons, Lee Echols of Holly Springs, Clyde Brown of Indianapolis, Ind.; six daughters, Daisy Martin, Esther Edwards, Edna Miller, all of Holly Springs, Jennie Hunter of South Holland, Ill., Dollie Wright of Chicago, Ill., Earline Hubbard of Indianapolis, Ind.; 29 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Lee Nabors, Shermon Miller, Steven Jones, Phillip Edward, Jerrell McDougal and Sherman Miller. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons, sons-in-law and great-grandsons.
Harley D. Fowler
Harley D. Fowler, 15, of Ashland, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 in a vehicle accident. He was a student at Falkner High School and a Baptist. He was an avid sportsman.
Services were at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Trey South officiating. Burial was in Hopkins Cemetery.
He leaves his mother, Tammy Gail Hopkins King, and husband, John, of Ashland; his father, O.D. Fowler Jr. and wife, Kathie of Florence, Ala.; three brothers, Casey Lee Fowler of Ripley, Jonathan Wesley King and Seven Austin King, both of the home; grandparents, Ruby Faye Hopkins and Rubye Faye King both of Ashland, Helen Fowler of Booneville and Sylvia Cooley of New Albany; a step-great-grandmother, Bessie Lee Dodd of Ashland; one step-sister, Christina Philpot of Monticello, Ky.; and one step-brother, Bobby Shane Stephens of Tupelo.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Wade Hopkins, O.D. Fowler Sr., and step-grandfather, Earnest K. Smith.
Pallbearers were Hunter Hopkins, Shane Paul, Brian Potter, Travis Hopkins, Cody Hopkins, and Winston Gray.
Henry Lee Jones
Henry Lee Jones, 66, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died March 7, 2009 at his home. He was the widower of Rosie Lee Williams Jones. He was a pump operator with Carrier Inc. in Collierville, Tenn., and a former member of Pleasant Hill CME Church in Mt. Pleasant, where he was a choir member.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 14 at New Haliburton MB Church, Olive Branch, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Steve Dodson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a son, Patrick Henry Jones of Hiram, Ga.; two daughters, Gracie Benton, Betty Jones-Guy, both of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Maggie Jean Robinson of Memphis, Tenn.; a stepbrother, Lee Jones Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Marcus Jones, Carlous Benton, Ramerize Jones, Dennis Kimbrough, Earnest Moffitt and Gary Seldon. Honorary pallbearers were Westly Crutcher, Carl Turner, Adrian Guy and Clyde Crutcher.
