Horace Jones Jr.
Horace Jones Jr., 74, of Holly Springs, died June 1, 2009 at Baptist Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. He was the widower of Lottie Louise Burton Jones.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on June 6 at Thyatira Church of Christ in Senatobia. Burial was in Carter Sunset Memorial Garden in Senatobia. Bro. Jimmy McClain officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves three sons, Samuel Jones of Memphis, Tenn., Randy Lee Jones of Jackson, Barry L. Jones of Byhalia; four daughters, Rosemary Jones of Holly Springs, Teresa D. Jones, Beulah Jones, both of Memphis, Tenn., Wanda Steward of Chicago, Ill.; his mother, Rosie Lee Dukes Green of Memphis, Tenn.; and two brothers, Howard Jones of DeSoto, Tx., Prentiss Jones of Chicago, Ill.
Pallbearers were Revell Burton, J.T. Harris, Rodney Stennis, Prentice Dailey, Edwin Lewis and Michael Stephens. Honorary pallbearers were Barry Jones, Randy Jones, Samuel Jones, Kendal Lewis, Joshua Jones, Randall Jones and Wesley Jones.
Lila A. Redmond Lyles
Lila A. Redmond Lyles, 59, of Milwaukee, Wisc., formerly of Oxford and Holly Springs, died May 27, 2009 at her home. She was a member of Unity Gospel House of Prayer in Milwaukee, former member of Burns United Methodist Church of Oxford, a graduate of Rust College and third grade teacher of Hawthorne Elementary School in Milwaukee.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on June 9 at St. Peters Cemetery in Oxford. Pastor Deborah Palmer officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her daughter, Fonda Lyles of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Theresa Redmond Boone of Chicago, Ill., Ercel Redmond Mayes of South Holland, Ill.; a brother, Charles (Sonny) Redmond of Chicago; and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Floretta Elise Gray.
Nina Frazier Shaw Proctor
Nina Frazier Shaw Proctor, 71, of Mt. Pleasant, died June 8, 2009 at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Billy W. Shaw and a member of Laws Hill Church of Christ.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on June 9 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Laws Hill Cemetery. Bro. Randy Bynum officiated.
She leaves her husband, James Proctor; two daughters, Beverly Shaw Thompson of Potts Camp, Tamara Shaw Day of Bethlehem; a son, Billy Joe Shaw of Laws Hill; two brothers, Melvin Frazier of Tyro, Ray Frazier of Abbeville; two sisters, Faye Gunter of Abbeville, Mary Zambroni of Olive Branch; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Melvin Frazier Jr., Don Frazier, Michael Andrews, Ronnie Frazier, Greg Frazier, John Gunter, James Zambroni, Billy Scott, and Daryl Scott.
James Owens Rich
James Owen Rich, 82, of Byhalia, died June 5, 2009 at his home. He was the widower of Martha L. Rich, a World War II Navy veteran and a self-employed carpenter.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on June 8 at Cockrum United Methodist Church. Burial was in Cockrum Cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch was in charge of services.
He leaves his daughters, Theresa Hatt, June Gross, both of Byhalia; sons, Marshall Allen Rich of Bolivar, Tenn., James Harold Rich, Tony Rich, both of Byhalia; sisters, Dimple Hawthorne, Mary Nix, both of Florida; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Herman Summers
Herman (Boot) Summers, of Byhalia, died May 23, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Union Valley Baptist Church in Byhalia. He was a graduate of Manassas High School. He was employed with Humko Chemical Company for 35 years and Owens-Corning Fiberglass Corporation for seven years.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on May 31 at Union Valley Baptist Church in Byhalia. Burial was in Union Valley Cemetery in Byhalia. Rev. Joe Richmond, pastor, officiated. Jefferson Mortuary of Millington, Tenn., was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves four daughters, Jackie Rayford, Belinda Summers, Winday Davis, Donna Summers, all of Memphis, Tenn.; five brothers, Phillip Morris Sumner, Gene Sumner, Marcellus Sumner, Alvin Sumner, Richard Sumner; four sisters, Brenda Sumner, Julia Sumner, Patty Sumner, Valerie Abram; a great-uncle, Henderson Milan of Holly Springs; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Willie Lee Sumner, Bryan Sumner and Ben Sumner.
Pallbearers were Earl Jones, Donald McCaster, Dwayne Phillips, Terry Phillips, Bobby Spears, Larondo Spears and Carlos Sumner. Honorary pallbearers were Wallace Ingram, Marshal Martin, Victor Peyton, Freeman Phillips, M.L. Rayford, Archie Richmond, Freddie Stinson and James Street.
Dorothy Cornell West
Dorothy Cornell West, 70, of Hickory Flat, died June 4, 2009. She was a member of Bluff Springs Baptist Church and a school janitor.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 8 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bluff Springs Cemetery in Ashland.
She leaves her husband, Hugh Jack West; daughters, Linda Gail West of Michigan, Valerie West of Hickory Flat; a brother, Billy J. Taylor of Ashland; a sister, Faye Sprayberry of Ashland; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Joyce West.
William Calvin Whitlock
William Calvin Whitlock, 72, of Hickory Flat, died June 1, 2009 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a retired truck driver with Memphis Furniture.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on June 4 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Donald Worsham and Bro. Faron Ash officiated.
He leaves his wife, Mary Lynn Faust Whitlock; his daughter, Mary Ann Bennett of Potts Camp; his brother, Donald Whitlock of McDougal, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
Robert Sanders Clark Sr.
Robert Sanders Clark Sr., 73, of Coldwater, died July 22, 2009 in Paducah, Ky. He was an upholsterer.
Services were held at Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Donna Clark; two daughters, Lynne Tashjian of Worcester, Ma., Sue Jarrett of Senatobia; and a son, Robert Clark Jr. of Bradford, Tenn.
