J.V. Crabb
J.V. Crabb, 73, of Byhalia, died at Baptist Desoto Hospital on July 31, 2009. He was the widower of Madge Crabb. He was a construction worker and member of New Garden Baptist Church in Wakefield.
Services were held August 3, at 10 a.m. John Johnson officiated. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home of Olive Branch was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his daughter Sheryl Willard of Byhalia; sons Gary Crabb of Sardis, Reggie Crabb of Olive Branch, Tim Crabb of Salisbury, NC, Jeff Crabb and Mark Crabb Sr. both of Byhalia; sister Earline Caviness of Jackson, Tenn.; brothers James Crabb of Ashland and Kenneth Crabb of Olive Branch; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Memorials may be sent to New Garden Baptist Church.
Arlisa Teresa Fitts
Arlisa Teresa Fitts, 29, of Holly Springs, died July 25, 2009 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Services were held at 1 a.m. on Aug. 11 at Union Valley MB Church in Byhalia, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe Richmond officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her mother, Nonnie B. Fitts of Holly Springs; her father, John Mays of Holly Springs; nine sisters, Mary Wiseman, Brenda Fitts, Elizabeth Fitts, Lavetta Fitts, all of Holly Springs, Emmie Street of Byhalia, Angela Mays, Diane Hibler, both of Memphis, Tenn., Marilyn Mays, Wanda Echols, both of Coldwater; and five brothers, Curtis Fitts of Holly Springs, John Mays Jr., Eldridge Mays, both of Coldwater, Marvin Mays of Memphis, Tenn., Elvis Mays of Byahlia.
Pallbearers were Reggie Caldwell, Roy Chester Hughes, Demarcus Newsom, Wil Phillips, Frederick Rucker and Curtis Thomas. Honorary pallbearers were Curtis Fitts, John Mays Jr., Nathaniel McKinney, Steven McKinney, Bobby Street and Chester Wiseman.
Moses David Gaiter
Moses David Gaiter, 100, of Waterford, died July 28, 2009 at his home. He was a member of Buford Chapel CME Church in Oxford, a former member of the Masonic Lodge and a retired farmer.
Services were held at 12 noon on Aug. 5 at New Hope MB Church in Laws Hill. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Willie Hoey officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Mary Cradle Gaiter of Holly Springs; his daughter, Everlean James of South Bend, Ind.; two stepchildren, Cle Opatria Pryor of Holly Springs, Willie H. Wells of Waterford; 20 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons Rodney Miller, Walter Brunson, Glen Brunson, Donald Deaner, Alex Deaner, J.R. Pryor Jr., A.D. Pryor, Deshawn Wells. Honorary pallbearers were Willie Avant Jr., John Gaiter, J.R. Pryor Sr., David Webb and McEwen Walker.
Ronald Dale Hearn
Ronald Dale Hearn, 51, of Florida, formerly of Holly Springs, died July 16, 2009. At an early age he accepted Christ and joined Asberry United Methodist Church in Holly Springs. He attended CADET School in Holly Springs. He attended Mississippi State University and transferred to Rust College, where he graduated in 1986.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 25 at House of God Miracle Revival Fellowship Church, Hollywood, Fla. Rev. Willie C. Smith officiated. Burial was in Hallandale Beach Cemetery, Hallandale Beach, Fla. Nakia Ingraham Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Pearline Hearn; children, Courtney, Joseph, Britnie; his mother, Landry H. Hearn; his grandmother, Mary Belfor; and sisters, Sandra Ben-Israel, Harriet Hearn.
Pallbearers were Michael Amatead, Lawrence Riddle, Tyrone Gipson, Kenneth Blackmon, Cecile Smith Sr. and Travell Davis. Honorary pallbearers were fraternity brothers.
Ruby Mae Jones
Ruby Mae Jones, 71, of Abbeville, died July 25, 2009 at her home. She was a member of the church mother’s board, a church usher and a member of Heroines of Jericho Court #11.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 29 at East St. Peter MB Church in Abbeville, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. William Woods Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves four sisters, Maerine Davis, Ada Lewis, Anna Lewis, Maggie Northington, all of Tulsa, Okla.; and three brothers, Willie Lewis, Steve Lewis, Theroda Lewis, all of Tulsa, Okla.
Pallbearers were Johnny Britten, Lonnie Young and Terry Young. Honorary pallbearers were Robert (R.B.) Blackmon, Casey J. Dixon Jr., Ossie Britten and Murray Dixon.
Frances Shepard Reid
Frances Shepard Reid, 83, of Athens, Tenn., died July 31, 2009 at NHC of Athens. She was the widow of Dr. James C. Reid Jr., who was an optometrist in Holly Springs for many years.
Services were held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 2 at Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in McMinn Memory Garden. Rev. Steve Brown and Rev. C.D. Hagaman officiated. Jerry Smith Funeral Home of Athens was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves three daughters, Dr. Libby Reid of Knoxville, Tenn., Mary Brown of Athens, Karen Scarborough of Greenback, Tenn.; a son, Jim Reid of Athens; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen LeQuire; and four brothers, Jay, Kenneth, Frank and Clarence Shepard.
Joe Rhew
Joe Rhew, 74, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 2, 2009 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. He was the widower of Nancy Lewis Rhew. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a warehouse supervisor at the Holly Springs Utility Department, and he was employed with Wurlitzer for 29 years. He played several musical instruments.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Butler Cemetery in Potts Camp. Dr. Curtis Ferrell and Bro. David Jordan officiated.
He leaves his daughter, Terri Jackson and her husband Dale of Holly Springs; and his sister, Edith Hudson and her husband James, of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers-in-law, Ronnie Lewis and wife Sheila, Sammy Lewis Jefferson; and a sister-in-law Gayle Jordan and husband David.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Michael Rhew; and grandchildren, Hailey and Bailey Rhew.
Honorary pallbearers were John David Strickland, Tracy Shaw, Mitch Tomlinson Jr., Eddie Jefferson, Jimmy Jackson, Jonathan Moore, Chuck Thomas and David Woods. Honorary pallbearers were employees with the City of Holly Springs Utility Dept.
Quintyler Sandridge
Quintyler Sandridge, 68, of Sardis, formerly of Byhalia, died July 24, 2009 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. She was a factory worker and a member of Shiloh CME Church in Sardis.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 1 at Chulahoma MB Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Etoy Bogard officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her son, Rev. Vernarda Sandridge of Sardis; her mother, Thelma A. Jones of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Reginia Faye Conklin of Chicago, Ill., Melvin L. Smith of Lynwood, Ill.; a brother, James T. Jones of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
