Joseph Hamilton Patterson
Joseph Hamilton Patterson, 50, of Rossville, Tenn., died Nov. 5, 2007 at Bolivar General Hospital. He was self-employed.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 10 at Thomas Chapel Church. Burial was in Charity Gardens Cemetery in Rossville. McGhee and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a daughter, Kimberly Hamilton; a son, Brandon Hamilton; sisters, Katherine Adams, Maxine Hamilton, Patricia Hobson, Leola Champion, Mary Brown; brothers, Roy Benson, Troy Hamilton, Henry Hamilton; and a grandchild, Katavious Rivers.
Shirley Smithwick
Shirley Smithwick, 65, of Potts Camp, died Nov. 5, 2007 at her home. She was a former employee of Piper Impact.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Serenity Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a son, Edward Moseley of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; four stepchildren, Terri Smithwick of Holly Springs, Walter Smithwick of New Market, Ala., Clark Smithwick of Dayton, Ohio, Sam Smithwick of Kennebunk, Me; a sister, Annie Sue Colella of Potts Camp; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirl Moseley.
Katherine Wells
Katherine (Cat Lady) Wells, 73, of Oxford, died Nov. 7, 2007 at Graceland Care Home in Oxford. She was the widow of Fred Wells. She joined West St. Peter U.M. Church at an early age and later joined the Church of Jesus Christ.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 13 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Oxford. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery. Rev. Eric Wilson officiated. Hodges & Serenity Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two daughters, Kathy Carothers, Dedura Williams; six sons, Robert Carothers, Terry Carothers, Fred Wells, all of Oxford, Bernard Wells of Milwaukee, Wisc., Anthony Carothers of El Paso, Tx., Donnie Wells of Tupelo; a sister, Mollie Buford of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Marcellus of St. Louis, Mo.; 35 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ellen Belle Barr.
Mary Beatrice Walls Bean
Mary Beatrice Walls Bean, 87, of Ashland, died Nov. 14, 2007 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Joseph Bean.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 18 at Mt. Zion CME Church in Ashland, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. G.T. Thompson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a son, Jerry Elliott of Ashland; four grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jerry Elliott Jr., Jarrod Elliott, Harold Scales, Jarvis Elliott, Jerrell Elliott and Maurce Warren.
Julia Rucker-Brown
Julia Rucker-Brown, 55, of Michigan City, died Nov. 9, 2007. She was a member of Macedonia CME Church.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Ashland High School. N.L. Jones and Son Funeral Home of Ashland was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her children, Sharon D. Brown of Memphis, Tenn., Shone D. Brown of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Ella Rucker of Collierville, Tenn., Linda Richardson of Memphis, Tenn., Betty Rucker Walker of Collierville, Tenn.; four brothers, John Lee Rucker of Memphis, Tenn., Frostee Lynn Rucker of Santa Ana, Calif., Lonnie Rucker of Memphis, Tenn., Melvin Rucker of Memphis, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren.
Pearlie Lee Sims Cochran
Pearlie Lee Sims Cochran, 82, of Byhalia, died Nov. 14, 2007 at her home. The widow of Elree Cochran Sr., she was a member of Hebron CME Church in Holly Springs, on the Usher Board, was a Missionary and on the Mother Board. She taught Sunday School for the youth.
Services were held at 12 noon on Nov. 18 at Anderson Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in the Hebron Church cemetery. Rev. Isaac DeBerry officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves nine daughters, Hannah Tunstall of Victoria, Lillian Smith of Holly Springs, JoAnner Edwards of Olive Branch, Alice Frazier of Memphis, Tenn., Inez Collier of Milwaukee, Wisc., Sarah Moore, Ida Brown, Pearlie Smith, all of St. Louis, Mo., Willie Etta Wortham of Jackson; four sons, John Cochran II of Hillside, N.J., David Cochran of Ashland, Elree Cochran Jr. of Holly Springs, Colonel Philander Cochran of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Irene Cochran of Holly Springs, Bessie Bogan of Illinois; 54 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Eric D. Tunstall, Arthur Johnson, Charles Wortham, Dean Cochran, John W. Cochran III, Eric Lester, Eldridge Cochran and Thelma Lewis Tunstall. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Cochran, David Cochran, Elree Cochran Jr., Philander Cochran and sons-in-law.
William Hubert Davis
William Hubert (Bill) Davis, 74, of Collierville, Tenn., died Nov. 12, 2007 at Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital in Germantown. He was the widower of Gailya Pusser Davis, his wife of 39 years and was the owner/operator of Davis Grading Company in Collierville. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of West Memorial Baptist Church near Saulsbury.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 15 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Bolivar. Burial was in West Memorial Cemetery. David Cooper officiated. He leaves a son, William Hayes (Bill) Davis of Collierville; and two grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be directed to the West Memorial Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Robert Davis; and a sister, Ernestine Davis Sharp.
Pallbearers were Neil Summerford, Buddy Smith, Larry Childers, David Moore, Jamie Garrison and Sam Beesinger.
