Brenda K. Echols
Brenda K. Echols, 57, died June 17, 2014, in Oceanside, California.
A memorial service will be held at Berachah Ministries, formerly Mt. Sinai C.O.G.I.C., on Saturday, July 19, at 11 a.m. Pastor, Elder Curtis Prichard Sr. will officiate.
She was the child of Evangelist Luecity Echols of Mt. Pleasant.
Craig Stephen Kidd Sr.
Craig Stephen Kidd Sr., of Traceway Retirement Community in Tupelo, died July 10, 2014. He was born in Holly Springs, and graduated from Holly Springs High School in 1964. After attending the University of Mississippi for two years, he enlisted into the Marines in 1966. Having served in Vietnam and Cuba, he returned to Holly Springs to begin his career in law enforcement. He moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1970, and earned numerous city, state and national awards as a Dallas police officer, while completing his degree in criminal justice. He worked for several companies, Skagg’s, American Food Stores and General Nutrition Center. He returned to Mississippi in 2004 as police chief in Ashland. He ended his career in law enforcement in 2007 as a detective in Holly Springs. He was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church.
Services will be held at a later date. Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his sister, Annice Birmingham; sons Craig Jr., Billy (Heather); and a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse “Jerry” Kidd Jr.
Memorials may be made to Traceway Manor or Sanctuary Hospice House.
Gary L. Logan
Gary L. Logan, 68, of Mt. Pleasant, died July 8, 2014. He was a former employee of International Harvester and General Electric.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 12 at Hernando Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Forest Hill South Cemetery. Hernando Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Mary “Sam” Logan; a daughter, Lorri Logan (Jimmy Cigalina) of Mt. Pleasant; sisters Shirley Mabry (Jimmy) of Heber Springs, Ark., and Peggy Erwin of Horn Lake.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary L. “Petey” Logan Jr.; and a sister, Linda Stanley.
Dorothy J. Mauldin
Dorothy J. Mauldin, 69, of Tupelo, died July 7, 2014, in Tupelo. She was the widow of Tommy Mauldin and a cashier.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 9 at Cornersville Baptist Church with burial in Cornersville. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves four sons, Rodney Yarbrough of Potts Camp, David Yarbrough of Yorkville, Ill., Timothy Yarbrough of Blue Mountain, and Michael Yarbrough of Coldwater; one daughter, Sheryl West of Holly Springs; two brothers, Larry Rhea of Cornersville and Terry Rhea of Saltillo; one sister, Kay Brownlee of Potts Camp; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Tempie Mae Nelson
Tempie Mae Nelson, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, died July 8, 2014, at Baptist Trinity Hospice House in Collierville, Tenn. She was the widow of Robert Nelson.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 12 at Pleasant Hill CME Church, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Arthur Johnson officiated. Serenity-Autry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a sister, Susie Hamer of Moscow, Tenn.; a grandson, James Joyner of the home; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janie Smith; and two brothers, Jessie Rubin and Clarence Rubin.
Pallbearers were Tony Lane, Jerry Lane, Dwight Nelson, William Avant, Tim Rubin, Morris Rubin, Tracy Jones, Billy Lane and Rob Nelson.
Ivon Sawyer Puckett
Ivon Sawyer Puckett, 87, of Saulsbury, Tenn., died July 8, 2014, at Baptist Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Fred B. Puckett. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on July 10 at Fullmer Cemetery in Harmontown. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two daughters, Grace Scott of Mobile, Ala., and Marion Drewery of Saulsbury, Tenn.; a sister, Mary Littlejohn of Cornelia, Ga.; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Derrick Lawrence “Spot” Sanders
Derrick Lawrence “Spot” Sanders, 45, of Lamar, died July 4, 2014, at Hwy. 7 North and Sexton Road, Lamar. He was a member of Sand Hill MB Church in Lamar.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 11 at Sand Hill MB Church with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Actavatis Allen officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two children, Aaron Simmons of Ripley, and Jameka Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Debbie Sanders, Lavern Hampton and Sharon Tucker, all of Lamar; one brother, Greg Hudson of Holly Springs; and two grandchildren.
Gloria Jean Cox Thomas
Gloria Jean Cox Thomas, 69, of Red Banks, formerly of Memphis, Tenn., and Maryville, Tenn., died July 12, 2014, at the home of her daughter in Maryville. She was a former waitress at the B.P. Station in Red Banks.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 15 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home chapel. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. Rev. Michael Adams officiated.
She leaves her husband, Larry G. Thomas; two daughters, Donna Mills, Heather Thomas, both of Maryville; a son, Eric Thomas of Maryville; three sisters, Vickie Smith, Betty Tolcher, both of Red Banks, Mary Greer of Memphis; two brothers, Joe Cox of Memphis, James Cox of Red Banks; and two granddaughters.
