Helen Thorne Eskridge
Helen Thorne Eskridge, 68, formerly of Holly Springs, died Jan. 9, 2006 at her home in Tupelo. She was a graduate of Millsaps College and a member of First United Methodist Church in Tupelo. She was a faithful presence at the NMMC Wellness Center.
Services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 11 at W.E. Pegues Funeral Home in Tupelo. Rev. Bill McAlilly officiated.
She leaves two daughters, Susan Eskridge Frazier of Jackson and Laurel Catherine Eskridge of Austin, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 412 West Main Street, Tupelo, MS 38804.
Sarah Lewellyn Gatewood
Sarah Lewellyn Gatewood, 77, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 13, 2006 at Trinity Mission Health Care in Holly Springs.
Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 15 at Hudsonville CME Church in Slayden. Burial was in the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves four children, Fred Gatewood, Sharon Dennis Hill, Joyce Stephens, all of Lamar, Elester Gatewood of Holly Springs; a brother, Jim Lewellyn Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Melvina Cranford of Memphis, Tenn., Elvera Lewellyn of Jamaica, NY; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Blanche Ingaborg Granberg
Blanche Ingaborg Granberg, 88, of Byhalia, originally from Solvang, Calif., died Jan. 10, 2006 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was employed in the food industry in Solvang. She was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 14 at Bartlett Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bartlett-Ellendale Cemetery.
She leaves a daughter, Carol Cowan of Collierville, Tenn.; three sisters, Lois Slater, Susie Jacobs, Hazel Wiig; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Winston Hollowell Jr.
Winston Hollowell Jr., 40, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 7, 2006 at Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. He was a cook with McDonald’s in Holly Springs.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 13 at Mt. Newell MB Church in Red Banks, where he was a member. Burial was in Mt. Newell Memorial Garden in Red Banks. Rev. Thurman Norman officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his father, Winston Hollowell of Warrensville, Ohio; his grandmother, Wilmer Guinn Hollowell Falkner Jones of Holly Springs; two sisters, Summer Taylor, Angie Taylor, both of Cleveland, Ohio; four brothers, Clarence Hollowell of Holly Springs, Gilbert Hollowell, Lamont Wheeler, both of Cleveland, Ohio, Steven Hollowell of Chicago, Ill.
Pallbearers were Carlos Ford, Jesse Burns, Keebler Martin, James Stinson, Billie Holland, Marco Watson, James Harden II, Boyce Watson Jr., Tavarus Holland and Samee Dixion. Honorary pallbearers were Boyce Watson Sr., Leon Watson, John Lee Sumlar and Wardell Watson Sr.
Anita Marie Hood
Anita Marie Hood, 37, of Tiplersville, died Jan. 12, 2006. She was Pentecostal. She was an RN and director of nursing at Briarcrest Extended Care in Ashland.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 14 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethlehem Church Cemetery. Bro. Steve Wilson officiated.
She leaves her husband, Charles Hood; a son, Jonathan Robert Hudson of Tiplersville; a daughter, Katelyn Marie Hudson of Tiplersville; five brothers, Danny Joe Smith, Edgar Leroy Stanton, both of Hickory Flat, Louis Allen Stanton of Ripley, Stanley Howard Stanton of Hickory Flat, Michael Stanton of Holly Springs; four sisters, Wanda McKnight of Tupelo, Joann Nanny of Fulton, Junie Hunter of New Albany, Linda Lowry of Ashland.
She was preceded in death by a son, Conner Jacob Everett Hood.
Audrey Perry Jackson
Audrey Perry Jackson, 82, of Michigan City, died Jan. 6, 2006 at St. James Hospital, Chicago Heights, Ill. She was the widow of Henry Jackson. She was a church usher and a member of the mother board.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 14 at Palestine MB Church in Michigan City, where she was a member. Burial was in Perry’s Chapel Church Cemetery. Rev. Leon Perry officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves three stepdaughters, Ionia Jackson, Dorothy Harris, both of Memphis, Tenn., Verline Jackson of Ashland; two stepsons, William A. Jackson of Memphis, Tenn., James Jackson of Ashland; six sisters, Calverta Marshall of Orland Park, Ill., Leada Jones of Dolton, Ill., Corine Little of Chicago, Ill., Leathie Powell of Southfield, Mich., Rosie Walls of South Holland, Ill., Mae Frances Richmond of Holly Springs; three brothers, Autry Perry of Joliet, Ill., Bobby Perry of Chicago, Ill., Eddie Perry of Louisville, Ky.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Janie Richards, MaeLilla Boga; two brothers, John Perry, Jim Perry.
Pallbearers were Tyler Banks, Edward Jones, Autry Perry Jr., James Jackson, Howard Jones and Roger Walls. Honorary pallbearers were William Jackson, Bobby Perry, Samuel Powell, Autry Perry Sr., Eddie Perry and Billie Walls.
Bettie Moore
Bettie Moore, 62, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 11, 2006, at Methodist Hospital Central in Memphis, Tenn. She was a private home worker.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 16 at Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ in Red Banks. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Red Banks. Rev. Gary B. Young officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her mother, Earline Moore; five children, Oscar Moore, Sylvester Moore, Virginia Horton, all of Holly Springs, L.V. Bell, Betty Eltayeb, both of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, Oscar Lee Moore of Byhalia, Herbert Moore of Memphis, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Louise Phillips
Louise Phillips, 79, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 9, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was a member of Mt. Gilead CME Church in Holly Springs, where she was missionary president, Sunday school teacher, church secretary, trustee and a member of the steward and stewardess board. She was a retired teacher, having taught school in LaFayette and Marshall counties for 40 years.
Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 16 at Mt. Gilead CME Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Q.H. Whitlock officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two sisters, Inez Ellington of Gary, Ind., Adranna Phillips of Holly Springs; two brothers, Adell Phillips, Reynard Phillips, both of Holly Springs.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Jackson; and a brother, McCoy Phillips.
Pallbearers were Larry Phillips, Cardell Phillips, George W. Phillips, Coyle Sims, Allen Gardner and Earnest Haywood. Honorary pallbearers were James Douglas, Reynard Phillips, Adell Phillips and Oscar Douglas.
