Mary L. May, 74, of Como, died April 16, 2007. She was the widow of Herbert May and a member of Como Baptist Church.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on April 18 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.
She leaves two daughters, Lisa D. May of Southaven, Michelle Jenkins of Horn Lake; four sons, David E. May of Arkansas, Lee W. May of Holly Springs, Ronald W. May of Hickory Flat, Larry M. May of Horn Lake; two brothers, Marvin Miles of Como, Bill Miles of Southaven; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer May.
Bobby Pohl
Bobby Pohl, 45, of Oxford, died April 9, 2007 at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. He was a freelance construction worker and a graduate of Holly Springs High School
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. on April 21 at Waller Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Robert Allen officiated.
He leaves his parents, Ralph J. Pohl Sr. and Lillian Marie Pohl of Panama City Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Nina C. Smith of Atoka, Tenn., Christie L. Wahlstrom of Horn Lake; and a brother, Ralph J. Pohl Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.

Maurine Davis Shaw
Maurine Davis Shaw, 89, of Olive Branch, died April 15, 2007 at her home. She was the widow of F.O. Shaw and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 17 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Southwood Cemetery in Olive Branch.
She leaves a son, Ronald R. Belk of Collierville, Tenn.; a daughter, Faye Drewer of Olive Branch; a brother, Thomas D. Davis of Huntsville, Ala.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Henry Akins
Henry Akins, 85, died April 25, 2007. He was born in Holly Springs. While living in Chicago, Ill., he met Doretha Finley; they married July 10, 1948. He served in the United States Army during World War II. They moved to Lansing, Mich., where he worked construction for many years. He worked with Fisher Body in the skilled trades department, retiring in 1986.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 5, 2007 at Trinity A.M.E. Church in Lansing, Mich. Rev. Nathan. A. Dixon, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Lansing. Riley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Doretha; two daughters, Shirley Coleman of Chicago, Ill., Grace Major of Lansing; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tom Daniel, Keith Coleman, Michael Major, William Word, Mark Major and Jordan Major.
Alice Burnside
Alice Burnside, 76, of Byhalia, died Nov. 16, 2008 in Holly Springs.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 22 at Chulahoma MB Church. Burial was in Chulahoma Cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves four daughters, Mildred Burnside, Linda Jackson, both of Byhalia, Pamela Burnside, Brenda Tatebrooks, both of Holly Springs; eight sons, Dexter Burnside, Dewayne Burnside, R.L. Burnside Jr., Garry Burnside, all of Holly Springs, Melvin Burnside of Memphis, Tenn., Daniel Burnside, Calvin Burnside, both of Davenport, Iowa, Joseph Burnside of Senatobia; six sisters, Ella Mae Taylor, Catherine Taylor, both of Memphis, Tenn., Marilyn Commander of Chicago, Ill., Rosie Lee Waldrop of Jonesboro, Ark., Helen Wright, Tina Davis, both of Senatobia; 36 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Joseph Daniel Ganger
Joseph Daniel Ganger, 52, of Hickory Flat, died Nov. 20, 2008 at his home. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Callahan, Fla., a constructor worker and a Navy veteran of Vietnam.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 25 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Johnny Rakestraw officiated.
He leaves his mother and stepfather, Shelby Plemmons, Walter Plemmons, both of Hickory Flat; two brothers, Michael Ganger of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Sean Paul of Callahan, Fla.; and three sisters, Jean Arrington of Jacksonville, Fla., Barbara Pryor of Waycross, Ga., Veronica Mann of Panama City Beach, Fla.
John Joseph McDonald
John Joseph (JJ) McDonald, 2 weeks old, of Hickory Flat, died Nov. 18, 2008 at North MS Women’s Hospital in Tupelo. He was born Nov. 4, 2008 at Baptist Hospital New Albany.
Services were held at 2 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Hickory Flat. Burial was in Union Hill Cemetery in Myrtle. Bro. Kyle Ivy officiated. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his parents, John and Scottie McDonald; a brother, Jacob Lee McDonald; a sister, Lana Jayde McDonald, all of Hickory Flat; grandparents, Linda Renick of Hickory Flat, Joe and Renee Cannon of Red Banks, Ceretha Taylor of New Albany, Curtis and Brenda McDonald of Myrtle; and his great-grandparents, Mary Alice Wakefield of Hickory Flat, Ruth Annis McDonald of Ingomar, Gene Balentine of Olive Branch, Dave and Angela Cannon of Ashland.

Leslie Earline Minor, 87, of Hickory Flat, died Nov. 19, 2008 at Baptist Oxford Hospital. She was the widow of W.E. Minor. She was a member of Winborn Methodist Church and supervisor of Irwin B. Schwabe.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 21 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Potts Camp Cemetery. Bro. Brownie Tohill officiated.
She leaves three sons, Glen T. Bounds of Southaven, William (Bill) Minor of Holly Springs, Ray Minor of Waterford; a brother, Alvie Hutchens of Bolton, Tenn.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
