Shellie Ray Rose, 80, of The Colony, Tx., died Dec. 21, 2009 at his home. He was a church deacon and manager at Sunbeam.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on Dec. 26 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery.
He leaves his wife, Mary Rose; two daughters, Mary Whelan, Deborah Buehlman; a brother, J.C. Rose; a sister, Pansy McDaniel; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, one step great-grandchild and one step great-great-grandchild.
Rex Ross
Rex Ross, 73, of Byhalia, died Dec. 21, 2009 in Cordova, Tenn. He was the widower of Martha Williams Ross, an Olive Branch Seventh Day Adventist, a line mechanic, and a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 23 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery.
He leaves two sons, James Ross of Birmingham, Ala., Daniel Ross of Cordova, Tenn.; a daughter, Robyn O’Neal of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Pansey Chester of Kansas City, Kan., Maxine Mayer of Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Billie M. Smith
Billie M. Smith, 81, of Byhalia, died Dec. 21, 2009 at her home. She was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 26 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Memphis Memory Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn. Bro. Oscar Geeslin officiated.
She leaves her husband, James B. Smith; four sons, Stephen M. Smith, Ernest P. Smith, Arnold Graber, all of Byhalia, Kenneth T. Smith of St. Mary’s, Ga.; two daughters, Tamara L. Smith, Kandace M. Pierson, both of Byhalia; a sister, Mae Ryan of Lake Cormorant; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sons James G. Smith, Philip C. Smith and Christopher M. Smith.
Sandra Kay Akins
Sandra Kay Akins, 60, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 22, 2011, at Alliance HealthCare. She was a member of Holly Springs Church of Christ and an English teacher.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 24 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery.
She leaves two brothers, Richard Akins of Jonesboro, Ark., Robert Akins of Ringgold, Ga.; two sisters, Peggy Moore, Becky Bryant, both of Holly Springs.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Akins; and a sister, Dixie Sanderson.

Shirley Jean Blake
Shirley Jean Blake, 60, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 18, 2011, at Baptist Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. She was a member of Hopewell No. 1 MB Church in Holly Springs and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 24 at Anderson Chapel CME Church. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Joe T. Lester will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two children, Sanchez Blake of Villa Rica, Ga., Courtney Blake of Holly Springs; a sister, Bettye Brown of Holly Springs; a brother, R.C. “Mickey” Blake of Holly Springs; and two grandchildren.
William Allen Byrd
William Allen Byrd, 71, of Lamar, died Aug. 19, 2011, in Ripley. He was the widower of Patty Clifton Byrd, his first wife. He was a member of Country Church, a farmer, a factory worker and a construction worker.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 21 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek Cemetery in Lamar.
He leaves his wife, Jewel Beibers Byrd; two sons, Steven Byrd of Ashland, Gerald Byrd (Sandra) of Falkner; a daughter, Janis McKenzie of Ashland; a stepdaughter, Nancy Hancock (Kevin); two sisters, Connie Skelton (J.W.), Sarah Hicks (Bennie); two brothers, Larry Byrd (Kathy), Lowrance Byrd (Virginia); six grandchildren; a stepgrandson and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Lewis Byrd.
Gerald B. Dempsey
Gerald B. Dempsey, 68, of Byhalia, died Aug. 17, 2011, at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. He was a member of Byhalia United Methodist Church, a construction worker and a veteran.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 19 at The Flame (Byhalia United Methodist Church). Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. Bro. Walter Goldsmith and Bro. Billy Dempsey officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Mary Jo Dempsey; four sons, Scooter Dempsey, Kevin Dempsey (Erin), both of Byhalia, Wade Chapman of Munford, Tenn., Doug Chapman of Byhalia; a brother, Billy Dempsey of Ft. Payne, Ala.; two sisters, Janice Larson of Port Charlotte, Fla., Kay Kimbrough of Rolla Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.
Minnie Taylor Lindsey
Minnie Taylor Lindsey, 86, of Hickory Flat, died Aug. 16, 2011, at her home. She was the widow of Willie Lindsey, a Baptist and a homemaker.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 18 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Temperance Hill Cemetery in Potts Camp. Rev. Stanley Huddleston officiated.
She leaves two sons, Dennis Lindsey of Coldwater, Danny Lindsey of Hickory Flat; a daughter, Shirley Shulze of Bartlett, Tenn.; two sisters, Ruby Carter of Holly Springs, Warene Floyd of New Albany; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Lindsey.
Pallbearers were Steve Huber, Jim Lindsey, Wayne Lindsey, Larry Doyle, Marty Cox and Donald Betts.
