Gracie Mae Collins

Gracie Mae Collins, 58, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Holly Springs, died May 20, 2013. She joined Rising Star Baptist Church and went on to become a Catholic. She graduated from CADET High School and earned an associate’s degree in electronic technology from Southeast College of Technology, Memphis, Tenn., in 1990. She started her career at Sears in Memphis. In 1992, she moved to Atlanta, Ga., where she worked for NCR as a peripherals coordinator until 1996. From 1992-1999, she worked M&B (a Hunter Douglas Co.) as a customer service supervisor liaison. She worked for Pameco from 1999 to 2001 as an accounts payable specialist and her last position was with Bearing Point, Inc (KPMG) from 2001 until 2010.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on June 15 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel.

She leaves her mother, Lacey Elliott-Collins; and two sisters, Waheedah Ali (Josephine Collins) and Rita Gatewood (Fred).

James Cook

James “Spider” Cook, 58, of Potts Camp, died June 15, 2013, at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a Baptist and owner/operator of Spider’s One Stop.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 18 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethlehem Methodist Church Cemetery. Bro. Steve Wilson officiated.

He leaves a daughter, Crystal Byrd (Terry) of Hickory Flat; two sisters, Tracy Ford (Phillip) of Hernando, Patricia Cothern (Carl) of Mt. Pleasant; two grandchildren and his fiancée, Sandra Stanton of Potts Camp.

William Boyd Decker

William Boyd Decker, 79, died June 15, 2013, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. Born in Lafayette County, he had lived in the Oxford area since 1982. He was retired from Emerson Electric in the maintenance department. He was a member of the Amos Lodge in Myrtle. He was a member of the South Lamar Baptist Church in Oxford.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on June 18 at the Coleman Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Garden of Memories at the funeral home. Bro. Ron Provence officiated.

He leaves his wife, Alice Faye Boxx Decker; a son, William “Sonny” David (Roxanne) Decker of New Albany; two daughters, Mary Kay (Delane) Denton of New Albany, Michelle (Phillip) Grose of Thaxton; a brother, Douglas (Karen) Decker of New Albany; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Decker; and a sister, Francis Skelton.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Mississippi Chapter, 196 Charmant Dr., Suite 4, Ridgeland, MS 39157.

Evelyn Maebell Garner

Evelyn Maebell Garner, 74, of Potts Camp, died June 11, 2013, in Potts Camp. She was the widow of James Melvin Garner. She was a member of Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ and a factory worker with Irwin B. Schwabb.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 14 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ Cemetery.

She leaves a son, Kenneth E. Ford of Potts Camp; three daughters, Evelyn Mae Ford, Rosie Ford, both of Potts Camp, Christine Lewis of Myrtle; two brothers, J.R. Byers of Byhalia, Melvin Byers of Waterford; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Lucious McKinney Sr.

Lucious McKinney Sr., 90, of Holly Springs, died May 18, 2013, at Alliance HealthCare. He was the widower of Mannie Mae McKinney. He was a member of Pleasant Grove MB Church.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Serenity Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a granddaughter who cared for him, Shirley (Robert) McKinney; a daughter, Brenda Waller of Holly Springs; two sons, Andrew McKinney of Holly Springs, Lucious McKinney Jr. of Oxford; 33 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by children Charlie McKinney, Cherry Mae McCool, Magnolia Wiseman, James M. Howell, Shelia Waller and Willie Mae Fulton.

Esau Shaw

Esau Shaw, 68, of Holly Springs, died June 13, 2013, at Baptist Trinity Hospice House in Colliervile, Tenn. He served in the United States Marine Corp., was a member of Powell Chapel Masonic Lodge #339, a member of the Gospel Travelers singing group, a drummer for the Tabernacle of Prayer Church choir, and a retired electrician with Town & Country Air Conditioning.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on June 22 at Mt. Peel MB Church in Laws Hill, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Donald L. Johnson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two daughters, Carmen Carter Earsery of Aurora, Ill., Sherice Johnson of Olive Branch; three sons, Esau Shaw Jr. of Waverly, Va., Jerome Shaw, Derrick Shaw, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; 10 sisters, Katherleen Brown of Cuba, Ala., Lorine Mitchell of Waterford, Nettie Malone of Aurora, Ill., Carolyn Woodard of Memphis, Tenn., Eloise Finley of Holly Springs, Eugina Conger, Onna Owens, Dale Glenn, Laveta Hoskins, Kimetha Burkeen, all of Indianapolis; three brothers, Tony Miller, Anthony Miller, both of Waterford, Keith Malone of Indianapolis; 19 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and his fiancée, Mozella Jones of Holly Springs.

He was preceded in death by siblings Eugene Shaw Jr., Wyvonne Shaw and Valine Shaw.

Bobbie S. Stewart

Bobbie S. “Seal” Stewart, 69, died June 4, 2013, at Alliance Hospital in Holly Springs.

Services were held at 12 noon on June 15 at Smith Grove MB Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Rev. Willie Conner, pastor, Rev. MacArthur King, eulogist, officiated. Serenity-Autry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a brother, Essiex Stewart of Holly Springs; and a sister, Clara Mae Phillips of Chicago, Ill.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leroy Stewart, George W. Stewart and Madison Stewart; and a sister, Willie B. Stewart.

Pallbearers were Telly Jones, Derrick Thompson, Darwin McClatchey, Junior Burnside, Walter Masons and Darius Johnson.

Henry Pegues

Henry Wesley Pegues, 88, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died June 12, 2013, at his home. The widower of Bernice Bowens Pegues and Eunice Howell Pegues, he was a member of Mt. Teamer CME Church and a former member of Jones Grove MB Church. He attended Mississippi Industrial College and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Steward’s Mate 1st Class. He was retired from Holly Springs Brick and Tile after 37 years.

Visitation will be June 19 from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home and June 20, 11-11:55 a.m. at the church.

Services will be held at 12 noon on June 20 at Mt. Teamer CME Church. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on June 21 at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis. Rev. Lexine Smith will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments.

He leaves his children, Willie (Rena) Jeffries of Memphis, Henry James (Renell) Harris, David Harris, both of Holly Springs, James C. McNeil Jr. of Memphis, Jeanette (A.C.) Rayford of Aurora, Ill.. Martha Burton Lester of Holly Springs; an adopted daughter, Nickie Jenkins; a sister, Virginia Pegues McNeil of Holly Springs; and a special friend who loved and cared for him the last 15 years, Ann Vaughan.
