Rev. Jessie Cooper
Rev. Jessie Cooper, 62, of Byhalia, died June 29, 2014, at North Delta Hospice House in Southaven. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a former pastor of Shiloh MB Church and a factory worker with Gem Inc. in Byhalia.
Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on July 6 at Mt. Olive MB Church in Byhalia, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Arthur Fitzpatrick officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, May Rose Lynch Cooper; a daughter, Rosita Cooper of College Park, Ga.; two sons, Terrance Cooper of Memphis, Tenn., Jeremiah Cooper of Byhalia; six sisters, Elizabeth Anderson of Horn Lake, Louvaner Cooper of Olive Branch, Mary Cooper, Arseale Cooper, both of Memphis, Tenn., Francis McKinney of Holly Springs, Sarah Falkner of Chulahoma; four brothers, Dennis Cooper of Memphis, Leroy Phillips of Aurora, Ill., Jacob Cooper of Aurora, Colorado, Harold Cooper of Abbeville; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester Cooper and Isaac Lee Cooper.
Tarvaris Terell Hoyle
Tarvaris Terell Hoyle, 36, of Ashland, died July 3, 2014, in Ashland. He was a member of Palestine MB Church in Ashland, a graduate of Ashland High School and a disabled framer with Ashley Furniture in Ecru.
Visitation will be July 11 from 2-7 p.m. at the Funeral Home and July 12 at the school auditorium from 10-10:55 a.m.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on July 12 at Ashland High School auditorium. Burial will be in Palestine MB Church Cemetery. Elder Bernell Hoyle will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Shonda Riddle Hoyle; a stepdaughter, Shatona Riddle of Holly Springs; his mother, Alberta Hoyle Tipler of Ashland; a sister, Natalie Washington of Memphis, Tenn.; five brothers, James Hoyle Jr., Eldson Hoyle, Jerome Hoyle, Renaldo Hoyle, Patrick Hoyle of Ashland.
Maxine F. Patrick
Maxine F. Patrick, 91, of the Atlanta, Ga. area, died June 30, 2014. She was the widow of retired USMC S/SGT Charles Howard Patrick. She was born and raised in Byhalia. Following her marriage, she moved to Georgia and spent the majority of her life in Atlanta. She was a member of Druid Hills Baptist Church and a retiree of the Veteran’s Administration. Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch was in charge of arrangements.
A graveside service will be held at Blocker Cemetery in Olive Branch at a later date.
She leaves her son and caregiver, Howard A. Patrick of Atlanta; and her daughter, Patricia Ann Williams of Fayetteville, Ga.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen and Kenneth.
Janice Augusta Ford Rayford
Janice Augusta Ford Rayford, 59, of Holly Springs, died July 2, 2014, at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab. She was a phlebotomist and certified nurse assistant.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 9 at Smith Grove MB Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Van Rayford officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Rev. Eddie Rayford; two daughters, Banikka Hurt of Holly Springs, Francisca Donelson of Aurora, Ill.; two sons, LaMoin Ford, Clifton Donelson, both of Aurora; five sisters, Anita Hughes of Chicago, Ill., Camille Chapman of Detroit, Mich., Emily Morgan of Raleigh, N.C., Beverly Hughes of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Deampert Hughes of Chicago, Virgil Hughes of Rancho Calamongo, Calif.; seven grandchildren.
Jimmie Wells
Jimmie Wells, 61, of Byhalia, died June 29, 2014, at Methodist Germantown Hospital in Germantown, Tenn. He was a graduate of Sand Flat High School and a factory worker with NEFAB, Inc. in Collierville, Tenn.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on July 5 at Mt. Newell MB Church in Red Banks, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. LaDaryl Odum officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two sons, Christopher Hale, Kevin Hale, both of Byhalia; three daughters, Tekelia Hale, Jammikka Hale, both of Byhalia, LaRhonda Lester of Holly Springs; three sisters, Teresa Wells, Eulia Mae Jones, both of Byhalia, Loretha Davis of Waterford; a brother, L.C. Gatewood of Byhalia; and 10 grandchildren.
Theartist Woodard
Theartist Woodard, 51, of Olive Branch, formerly of Michigan City, died July 2, 2014, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was a member of Shiloh MB Church in Barton, a deacon, a member of the church choir and male chorus. He was a graduate of Ashland High School Class of 1982 and a truck driver.
Visitation will be July 11 from 2-7 p.m and with family from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home and July 12 from 2:30-3:25 p.m. at the church.
Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on July 12 at Sims Chapel MB Church in Michigan City, where he was a former member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Gary L. Davis will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Bulah Mae “Bonnie” Franklin Woodard; a son, Theartist Tavares Woodard of Olive Branch; two daughters, Makeiba “Dae” Woodard, Kenyunna “Pookie” Woodard, both of Olive Branch; his mother, Eva Ree Woodard Evans of Michigan City; his father, MacArthur Brown of Rossville, Tenn.; six sisters, Linda Anderson of Michigan City, Cathey “Roland” Gensey, Sherry “Lynn” Stewart of Memphis, Tenn., Sandra Scrivner of Birmingham, Ala., Reaunda L. Thomas, Twinel Bradford of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Erick Tucker of Memphis, Tenn.; and a grandson.
Sandra Kay McQueen Maness
Sandra Kay McQueen Maness, 60, of Ashland, died July 6, 2014, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow Bobby Neal Maness Sr. She was employed at Sandra’s Grocery until her retirement in 2004. She had recently moved to Williston, Tenn.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 10 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville, Tenn. with Bro. Rodney Stewart officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Williston.
She leaves a daughter, Tonya Maness Simmons (Tim) of Memphis; three sons, Bobby Neal Maness Jr. (Stephanie) of Byhalia, Jeff Maness (Nancy Wilbanks), Joey Maness, both of Ashland; a sister, Pam Cannon of Williston; a brother Frank McQueen Jr. of Holly Springs; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Billy Allen, Thomas Poff, Junior Trailer, Kevin McQueen, Kenny McQueen and Keith Cannon. Honorary pallbearers were Donald McNabb and Tim Simmons.

Kenneth Eugene Cox
Kenneth Eugene Cox, 65, of Potts Camp, died April 17, 2005 at his home. He worked for Sunbeam in Holly Springs as lead maintenance man. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the Air Force Reserve as airman first class. He was also a Mason.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on April 19 at Faith Baptist Church in Hickory Flat, where he was a member. Burial was in McKay Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Larry West, Bro. Jimmy Wilbanks and Bro. Steve Wilson officiated. United Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Jean Taylor Cox; two daughters, Cindy Roberts, Melody Cook; three sons, Phil Cox, Kenneth D. Cox, Cliff Cox; a brother, Roger Cox; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Beecher Cox.
Pallbearers were Thomas Stanton, Ward Clifton, Ray Clifton, Ernest Cruse, Roy Cook, Dennis Clifton, and James Payne. Honorary pallbearers were Bubba Feathers, Bobby Clayton, Daniel Norris, Kevin Staggs, Davis Bumpas, John Dunning and Bro. Jim Buchanan.
