John Otha Brand III

John Otha “Angels” Brand III, 18 months, of Holly Springs, died April 3, 2014, at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on April 9 at New Dimension Salt & Light Ministries. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Bro. David Jackson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his mother, Christian Byers-Brand of Holly Springs; his father, John O. Brand Jr. of Holly Springs; siblings Gabrielle Byers, Kirsten Byers of Holly Springs, J’Telya Brand, Jayla Brand, Mya Ann Young, all of Covington, Tenn.; grandmother, Gloria Jean Byers of Holly Spring; grandfather, Bernie S. Byers of Holly Springs; great-grandmothers, Josephine Byers, Mae Frances McKinney of Holly Springs, Larzetta Brand of Covington.

Lura B. Hubbard Collins

Lura B. Hubbard Collins, 67, of Park Forest, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs, died March 21, 2014, at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, Ill. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Chicago and a currency exchange manager.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on March 29 at St. Paul CME Church in Holly Springs, where she was formerly a member. Burial was in Charity Hill Cemetery in the Lake Center community, Holly Springs. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Mac A. Collins Sr.; a daughter, Cheryl (Derrick Sr.); a son, Mac Jr. (Lekita); two sisters, Ganice and Clemmie; five brothers, Wallace, Cagie, Gene, L.B. and Clarence; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by siblings Ike, Winston, Timothy, Mamie, Ridy and Ethel.

Maggie Lue Davis

Maggie Lue Davis, 62, of Michigan City, died March 30, 2014, at her home.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 6 at Hardaway Chapel MB Church in Michigan City. Burial was in Hardaway Chapel Church Cemetery. Rev. Robert L. Camper officiated. Serenity-Autry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two sons, Tyrone Davis (Linda), Dock (Tisa Stewart) Davis III, both of Michigan City; five brothers, James Ayers Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., Lawrence Ayers of Southaven, Darrell Ayers (Monica) of Michigan City, Pete Rucker, Johnny Rucker, both of Chicago, Ill.; five sisters, Lois Hamer of Grand Junction, Tenn., Annie Jean Ayers, Betty Ayers, Cynthia Vance, all of Memphis, Tenn., Gail Patterson of Hickory Valley, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Bobbie Jean Ayers; and a brother, Larry Ayers.

Pallbearers were Barry Jenkins, Udell Hunt, Joseph Jenkins, Barry Poplar, Johnny Hoyle and Juwan Poplar. Honorary pallbearers were Leon Hunt, Junior Traylor, Ronell Murden, Robert Trayler, Danny Buggs and Detrick Buggs.

Willie Flemon Jr.

Willie Flemon Jr., 80, of Holly Springs, died April 3, 2014, at his home. He was the widower of Ida Mae Lawson Flemon. He was a church deacon board member, a finance chairman at church, county constable for 12 years District 1, county supervisor for 16 years District 1, he worked for Buford Furniture for 33 years, and he worked for Merchants and Farmers Bank for seven years. He retired as county supervisor for Marshall County in 2012.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on April 11, 2-7 p.m. and at the church on April 12 from 10-10:55 a.m.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on April 12 at True Vine MB Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Pastor Timothy Brown will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two daughters, Elizabeth F. Isom, Betty Ann Flemon, both of Holly Springs; three sons, Willie James Flemon of Holly Springs, John Boyd of Kansas City, Kan., Freddie Smith of Holly Springs; his very dear friend and companion, Joe Ella Howell of Holly Springs; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by children, Beauty B. Flemon and Meter McGhee.

Deneen Gray

Deneen Gray, 47, of Holly Springs, died April 1, 2014, at Baptist Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. She was a member of the church missionary society, youth director at church, president of church board, a Sunday school teacher, and a teacher at Holy Family Child Care Center.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on April 5 at St. Paul CME Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Charity Hill Cemetery. Rev. Tony Wilkins officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two sisters, Patricia Gray of Holly Springs; Denise Gray-Hunt of Jackson.

Rev. Gifton Huey Jones

Rev. Gifton “Gip” Huey Jones, 66, died March 19, 2014. He was a member of St. Paul CME Church, where he served as superintendent of Sunday School and sang in the choir. Later he moved his membership to St. Mark MB Church. His first church was Oak Grove MB Church, where he served as pastor for three years. He came to St. Mary and served there for 11 years. In 1988, he became pastor and spiritual advisor at Jerusalem MB Church, where he served the rest of his life.

He leaves his wife, Gracie Jones; two daughters, Darlene LeSueur and Verna Hayes, both of Memphis, Tenn.; six sons, Bruce (Paula) Jones of Southaven, Billy (Victoria) Jones of Thomasville, NC, Richard (Lavell) Jones of Holly Springs, Thomas (Obberdellar) Jones of Horn Lake, Rev. Antonio (Diann) Jones of Olive Branch, Gifton (Sandra) Jones III of Memphis, Tenn.; five sisters, Ardella (David) Johnson of Memphis, Mae Glover of Aurora, Ill., Virginia (Deharce) Jeffries, Dorothy Jeffries and Glenda (William) Manning, all of Holly Springs; three brothers, James (Shirley) Jones, Fred Wayne Jones, both of Aurora, George (Cynthia) Jones of Horn Lake, 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Charles W. Muller Jr.

Charles W. Muller Jr., 76, of Holly Springs., died April 3, 2014, at Maura Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tenn. He was a deputy with the Marshall County Sheriff Department and a veteran.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 6 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.

He leaves a son, Robert Muller (Sherri); and two grandchildren, Marissa Reaves, Alysa Calderon; and a great-grandchild, Colton Reaves.

Lonzo Taylor Sr.

Lonzo Taylor Sr., 65, died March 24, 2014. He was baptized at an early age at Spring Field MB Church. He attended Copiah County school system, where he moved on to the job corp. He worked at Avondale Shipyards in Avaondale, La. His family returned to Mississippi, where he worked for T.L. Wallace Construction Company in Grenada and retired.

Services were held at 12 noon on April 5, at Greater White Oak MB Church in Utica. Rev. Alonzo McClure officiated.

He leaves his wife, Cecilia Smith Taylor; sons Terrance Taylor Oiniso, San Diego, Calif., Darius Taylor of Marrero, La., Chance Taylor of Tulsa, Okla, Dominique Taylor of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughters Deondra Taylor Pierson of Carrollton, Ga., Tiffany Taylor, Chasity Taylor of Tulsa, Okla, Krista Taylor of Norman, Okla, Courtney Taylor of Douglasville, Ga.; four sisters, Gladys Steele (John), Brenda Wilson, Glenda Forbes (Bernard), Katrina Johnson (Eddie); five brothers, Clifton Taylor Jr. (Annie), Chester Taylor, Bernard Taylor (Maggie), Perry Taylor (Lydia), Ricky Taylor (Lisa) and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Lonzo Taylor Jr.; and brothers Kenneth and Roger Taylor.
