Myra M. Pryor
Myra McCain Pryor, 67, of Troy, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died March 26, 2005 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. The widow of Ken Pryor, she began working for the Telephone Company in 1957 until her retirement after 20 years. She was a union member, served as president of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a counselor at Camp Bluebird several times, a member of the Humane Society, and a member of Troy United Methodist Church in Troy Tenn.
Services were held March 29 at 1 pm at Smith Funeral Home in Jackson, with the Rev. Judd Mowery officiating. Burial was at Highland Memorial Gardens in the Mausoleum in Jackson, TN.
She leaves two sons, Richard J. Pryor of Delano, Tenn., David Pryor of Etowah Tenn.; a daughter Viva Dabbs Lane of Dyersburg; two sisters, Myrna Horton of Cleveland, Tenn., Viva McGuire of Phelps, Ky.; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jackie Joyner, Herbie Arnett, Harry Johnson, Bobby Brien, Baxter Sanders, and Mike Sanders. Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Guy, Jim Litzelner and Bubba Lane.
The family requests memorials or donations are made to the Lung and Heart Association, Camp Bluebird or Troy United Methodist Church.
Virginia Spight
Virginia Spight, 71, of Blue Mountain, died March 28, 2005 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 2 at Palestine MB Church in Blue Mountain. Burial was in the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Joy Spight Sr. of Macon, Ga.; three daughters, Joyce and Bobbie Spight of Macon, Ga., Ann Spight of Blue Mountain; two sons, Joy Spight Jr. of Blue Mountain, Thomas Spight of Nashville, Tenn.; six sisters, Mary Turner of Racine, Wisc., Mattie Venson, Jessie Elliott, Annie Miller, Mae Alice King, all of Blue Mountain, Lovonia Elliott of New Albany; four brothers, Haze Johnson of Evanston, Ill., Ralph Johnson of Glenwood, Ill., Dewey Johnson of Racine, Wisc., Herman Johnson of Blue Mountain; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Dustin Michael Wood
Dustin Michael Wood, 20, of Glen, died April 2, 2005 at Booneville. He attended Strickland Church of Christ. He was a 2003 Alcorn Central High School graduate, where he was in the band.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 5 at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Burial was in Center Hill Cemetery in Counce, Tenn. Charlie Browning and Minister Brad Dillingham officiated.
He leaves his parents, Michael McKinley (Ken) and Sandra Smith Wood of Glen; a sister, Brittney Wood of Glen; his girlfriend, Cheryl Lander of Hamilton; grandparents, James and Marie Smith of Holly Springs; grandfather Bill Wood of Corinth.
Pallbearers were Brent Childs, Robert Evans, Berry Parker, Jon Parker, Deric Smith, Brian Wooten. Honorary pallbearers were Skylar Gamble, Marine Lance Corporal Richard A. Wilkins of Camp LeJeune, NC; Jet Thomas.
He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Alma Wood; great-grandparents, Eugene and Lucille Colston; Major McKinley and Gertrude Wood; Johnny and Nannie Bell Strickland; John Alfred and Zora Nell Smith.
Jane Sibley Lester Woods
Jane Sibley Lester Woods, 84, of Holly Springs, died March 31, 2005 at Christopher’s Personal Care Center. She was the widow of Roger Lamar Woods, and a secretary/bookkeeper. She was a charter member of the Town and Country Garden Club.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 2 at First United Methodist Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Rev. Truman Thompson officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves three sons, Christopher Lamar Woods of Memphis, Tenn., Roger Douglas Woods of Forest, Jonathan Lester Woods of Red Banks; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.
Gladys V. Algee
Gladys V. Algee, 86, of Hernando, died March 23, 2005 at her home. She was the widow of Wilbur H. Algee and was retired from Gem Inc. of Byhalia.
Services were held on at 10 a.m. on March 26 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch with burial in the Byhalia Cemetery.
She leaves a daughter, Trudy Algee of Horn Lake; a son, Andy Algee of Hernando; a brother, James Edward Vaughn of Olive Branch; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Bettie Jones
Bettie (McKinney Pegues) Jones, 95, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs and Memphis, died Feb. 17 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago. She was the widow of Forrest Jones and Montegue Pegues.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 23 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Chicago. Burial was in Burr Oak Cemetery.
She leaves two daughters, Merl Rowe and Bessie Lowe, both of Chicago; three siblings, Willie Holloway, Elmo McKinney Sr., both of Holly Springs, Mattie Earl Folsom of California; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Leonard Pegues; and 11 siblings.
Edgar Jones Jr.
Edgar Jones Jr., 44, of Corinth, formerly of Holly Springs, died March 21, 2005 at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. He was a member of Pleasant Grove MB Church in Corinth, a church usher and a factory worker with Corinthian Furniture Factory.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 25 at Strawberry MB Church in Holly Springs, where he was a former member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Johnnie Bobo officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home officiated.
He leaves his wife, Doris Hampton Jones; a daughter, Ebony Renisha Jones of Corinth; a son, Edgar Deonta Jones of Corinth; his stepfather, Henderson Miller of Waterford; six sisters, Anna M. Jones, Shirley Mayfield, Deborah Jones and Lois Jones Bean, all of Holly Springs, Dorothy Bonds of Florence, Ala., Queen E. Drake of Springfield, Ill.; two brothers, James Jones, Jeffries Jones, both of Holly Springs.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Jones Sr.; his mother, Nannie Holloway Jones Miller; a sister, Helen McKinney; and a brother, Robert Jones.
Pallbearers were Thomas Nabors, Wilbert Brown, Tim Oliver, Wayne Stinson, Elvis Campbell, Carl Malone, Larry Rankins, HSHS Class of ’79. Honorary pallbearers were James Henry Jones, Clarence Deonta Gorman, Rayzel Gross, Jeffries Jones, James Frank Mayfield, Herbert Drake, Rev. Andrew Bonds.
Hazel E. Lindsey
Hazel E. Lindsey, 69, of Byhalia, died March 25, 2005 at her home. She was the widow of Clyde Lindsey Jr., a member of Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church in Byhalia, and retired from Deltona Lighting in Senatobia.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on March 28 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Ark. Bro. Billy Watkins officiated.
She leaves two sons, Ronny Lindsey, Joey Lindsey, both of Byhalia; a brother, Willie Pipes of Jonesboro, Ark.; three sisters, Syble Meyers of Missouri, Mardra Davis of California, Sylvia Parsley of Nevada; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Clyde Lindsey; two daughters, Patricia Gail Coonrod, Carolyn Annette Lindsey.
