Julius Williams
Julius Williams, 88, of Michigan City, died April 5, 2014, at Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch. He was the widower of Marie Woodard Williams. He was a member of Berry’s Chapel CME Church in Michigan City, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He received a Bronze Star, EAME Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. He was a retired greeter from Walmart.
Visitation will be April 11 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at J.F. Brittenum & Son Funeral Home in Holly Springs, and from 10 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. April 12 at Sims Chapel MB Church in Michigan City.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on April 12 at the church. Burial will be in Williams Family Cemetery. Rev. Robert Williams will officiate.
He leaves two daughters, Helen Williams of Ashburn, Va., Vonsha Williams of Michigan City; a son, Edward Williams of Michigan City; a sister, Velma Wardell of Chicago, Ill.; six brothers, Floyd Williams, Lawrence Williams of Chicago, Hugh Lloyd Williams of Memphis, Tenn., Kwame Tyehemba, Tommy Eldrich Williams of Michigan City, Simpson Williams of Selma, Ala.; 24 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by children Brenda Barnett, Fredrick Williams, Wallace Williams.
Randall Lane Clarkson
Randall Lane Clarkson, 60, of Hickory Flat, died March 21, 2014, at his home. He was a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 23 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery.
He leaves a son, Christopher Lane Clarkson (Amy) of Potts Camp; a daughter, Melissa Clarkson of Lake Center; three brothers, Mike Clarkson of Olive Branch, Tim Clarkson of Southaven, Greg Clarkson of Waterford; a sister, Kathy Brestel of California City, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Butch Clarkson.
Coretta Venita Gregory
Coretta Venita Gregory, 45, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Byhalia, died March 18, 2014, at Delta Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of Nation of Islam Mosque #78.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 23 at Liberty Hill MB Church in Byhalia. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Anthony Muhammad officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Nahja Gregory of Memphis; six sons, Marcus Gregory, Brandon Gregory, Jevon Gregory, Trevion Pigues, Matthew Pigues, Jaheim Gregory, all of Memphis; her mother, Patricia Young Muhammad of Byhalia; her father, Robert Gregory Jr. of Aurora, Ill.; her stepfather, Robert Leakes of Byhalia; three sisters, Jacqueline Calmes, Tina Muhammad, Cedra James, all of Memphis, a brother, Jesse Dwayne Brown, of Memphis; and a grandson.
Cora Mae Pegues Jeffries
Cora Mae Pegues Jeffries, 86, of Holly Springs, died March 17, 2014, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. The widow of Robert Lee Jeffries, she was a member of Union Hill MB Church in Oxford.
Services were held at 4 p.m. on March 22 at Tallahatchie Oxford Memorial Building in Oxford. Burial was in Union Hill MB Church Cemetery. Rev. Porchia McGlown officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Barbara Campbell (Willie) of Holly Springs; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Lee Jeffries.
Lawanda Dickerson Moorehead
Lawanda Dickerson Moorehead, 91, of Hickory Flat, died March 9, 2014. She was the widow of Eulan Gay Moorehead, her husband of 73 years. She was a lifetime resident of Hickory Flat and an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Hickory Flat, where she served as the organist for 55 years. She was the head bookkeeper at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Holly Springs for more than 24 years. She was the business manager for more than 20 years of the family-owned pallet company Moorehead Industries, Inc.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 19 at United Funeral Service Chapel in New Albany. Rev. Brownie Tohill officiated. Burial was in Vista Memorial Park.
She leaves two sons, Robert Watson Moorehead (Delores) of Wellington, Ohio, Eulan Stanley Moorehead of Seabrook, Texas.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Sid Ayres, Warner Bradford, Glen Cossitt, Johnny Elliott, Marcus Moorehead and Don Taylor.
Rex Alan Overall
Rex Alan Overall, 58, of Potts Camp, died March 23, 2014, at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. He was a Baptist and a Navy veteran.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 26 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Chewalla Cemetery in Potts Camp. Bro. Randy Hamilton officiated.
He leaves his wife, Beth Overall; his son, Brian Overall (Tricia) of Potts Camp; two daughters, Heather Overall, Jamie Whaley (Kyle), both of Potts Camp; his father, R.L. Overall of Potts Camp; a brother, Roger Overall of Olive Branch; a sister, Robin Willis of New Albany; and four grandchildren.
Thomas Nabors Jr.
Thomas Nabors Jr., 79, of Holly Springs, died March 20, 2014, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of United Travelers Motorcycle Club and a retired machine operator with Marshall County.
Visitation will be held on March 28 from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home and on March 29 from 10-10:55 at the church.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on March 29 at Mt. Newell MB Church in Red Banks. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two sons, Donnie Nabors, Thomas Nabors, both of Holly Springs; five daughters, Helen Jeffries-Lamb of Jackson, Willie Mae Aldridge of Bossier City, La., Sharon Nabors, Bonnie Oliver, Cassandra Faulkner, all of Holly Springs; six sisters, Mamie Neely, Deloies Nabors-Milton, Linda Nabors of Memphis, Tenn., Leonia Hardaway, Shirley House, Bobbie Crane-LeSueur, all of Holly Springs, three brothers, Roosevelt Nabors, Jessie Nabors, James Nabors, all of Holly Springs; 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Eddie Lee Nabors and Joe Bell Lawson.
Arnold R. Rooker Sr.
Arnold R. Rooker Sr., 69, of Hickory Flat, died March 18, 2014. He was a Baptist and a construction worker.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 21 at Cornerstone Baptist Church. Burial was in Rooker Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Jimmy Wilbanks officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Sandra Smith Rooker; a son, Arnold Ray Rooker Jr.; two daughters, Sherry Rooker Smith, Sheila Rooker Clark, all of Hickory Flat; three brothers, Daniel Rooker of Hickory Flat, Kenneth Rooker of Somerville, Tenn., Rockey Rooker of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Elaine Rooker McNutt of Burnsville; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
