Nils Edward Pallesen, 74, of Memphis, Tenn., died June 13, 2005 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. He was Catholic. He was a management consultant with Pallesen Consulting Services, LLC. He was a captain in the US Marine Corps and a veteran of Korea.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on June 16 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Temperance Hill Cemetery in Potts Camp.

He leaves his wife, Martha H. Pallesen; a brother, Robert D. Pallesen of Ocala, Fla.; and two sisters, Ellen A. Kurtz of New York, N.Y., Betty J. Lynn of Orlando, Fla.

Pallbearers were Edward Lynn, Bob Pallesen, Frank Howell, Ralph Hill, Stewart Howell, Clyde Howell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Mary Moore Sumlar
Mary Moore Sumlar, 84, of Holly Springs, died June 12, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was the widow of Albert Sumlar.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 18 at Newell Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Spencer Mathis officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Margaret Moore of Holly Springs; four sisters, Clara Blake, Mildred Wynn, both of Memphis, Tenn., Thelma Gatewood of Detroit, Mich., Alma McAuley of Byhalia; a brother, Edgar (Puppy) Moore of Red Banks; 11 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jessie Hughes, Melvin Moore, Marco Hughes, Edgar Moore Jr., Bobby Moore, Kedrick Moore.

Mamanola Macon Tipler
Mamanola Macon Tipler, 75, of Lamar, died June 11, 2005 at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was a member of the mother board, a member of the finance committee, a church kitchen manager and a former usher. She was a retired factory worker with ABC of Ashland.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on June 18 at St. James Church of God In Christ in Ripley, where she was a member. Burial was in St. Luke COGIC Cemetery in Ashland. Superintendent Bernell Hoyle officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, James Tipler; two daughters, Angela Robinson of Ashland, Dorothy Bills of Holly Springs; four sons, Dr. Johnny Bills of Fayette, Roosevelt Bills of Ripley, Nathaniel Bills of Holly Springs, Dwight Steward of Bolivar, Tenn.; three sisters, Virtee Elmore of Maywood, Ill., Mary Elmore of Calumet City, Ill., Leona Pate of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, James Macon of Maywood, Ill., L.B. Macon of Toone, Tenn.; 26 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Smith.

Pallbearers were Tyrone Smith, Roosevelt Reaves, Carl Robinson, Cornelius Robinson, James Macon Jr., Larry Crawford, Ralph Tipler, Craig Tipler, Larry Coleman. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Johnny Bills, Ricky Pate, James Macon, L.B. Macon, Roosevelt Bills, Nathaniel Bills, Alex Williams.

Bobbie Nell Ash
Bobbie Nell Ash, 72, of Arlington, Tenn., died June 12, 2005 at her home. She was a member of Christ Apostolic Church in Arlington and a retired packer with Shering Plough Inc.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on June 15 at Bethel Baptist Church in Pinedale. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Wayne Chester, Bro. Travis Shepherd, Bro. Don Gill and Bro. Tim McCrary officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband of 54 years, Cecil Charles Ash; three sons, Charles Edward Ash, Ronald Thomas Ash, both of Arlington, Cecil David Ash of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Hubert Milton Thomas of Columbus; two sisters, Violet Richardson of Pinedale, Lucy Biggs of Covington, La.; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jarrett Ash, Jordan Ash, Walter Richardson, Tony Richardson, Bert Thomas, Jonathan Thomas, Chris Howell.

Arthur T. Cowan
Arthur T. (Hot) Cowan, 42, of Holly Springs, died June 6, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare System. He attended Providence MB Church in Holly Springs and was a former cafeteria worker with Rust College.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on June 11 at Gray’s Chapel CME Church in Hudsonville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Willie Hoey officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Paula Floyd Cowan of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Rashandia Bowens of Holly Springs; two sons, Arthur Terrell Cowan III, Tavarus Rodriquez Cowan, both of Nashville, Tenn.; his mother, Dorothy Mae Brown Cowan of Holly Springs; six sisters, Gloria Parker, Patricia Parker, both of Victoria, Pauline Stevenson, Sarah Cowan, Brenda Cowan, Demetria Cowan, all of Holly Springs; and a brother, Willie M. Brown of Holly Springs.

Pallbearers were James Gipson, Michael Snow, Jeff Humphrey, Lacy Brown, Johnny L. (Bo) Jackson, and Willie Gordon. Honorary pallbearers were Cortez Cowan, Cedric Stevenson, Timothy Brown, Marquese Cowan, Willie James Gordon, Joe Lee Stevenson.

Samuel Green
Samuel Green, 80, of Detroit, Mich., died June 8, 2005 at St. John Riverview Hospital in Detroit. He was born in Lafayette County; he later moved to Detroit, Mich. He was a retired auto mechanic.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on June 11 at Tobby Tubby Church in Oxford. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Jerry Malone officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a son, Willie Green; a brother, Lorienzer Greer Sr.; two sisters, Bessie Gibson, Mable Pettis; and two grandchildren, all of Oxford.

Rosa Mae Lane
Rosa Mae Wilkerson Lane, 76, of Holly Springs, died June 13, 2005 at Trinity Missions in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Rev. John Calvin Lane, her husband of 54 years.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 16 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery.

She leaves two daughters, Rose Marie Lane Busby of Noxapater, Mary Kate Lane of Holly Springs; two brothers, Billy Wilkerson of Williamsville, Ga., Charles Wilkerson of Griffin, Ga.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Louis Bob Bruce
Louis Bob (L.B.) Bruce, 78, of Holly Springs, died May 28, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. He was the widower of Vivian Jackson Bruce, a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Holly Springs, a former Sunday school superintendent, a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, a retired administrator of Rust College and a businessman.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 4 at Rust College Doxey Auditorium in Holly Springs. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Rev. J. Michael Culbreth officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two daughters, Pat Bruce Lowe of Birmingham, Ala., Sheila Bruce Renfroe of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Louis Robert Bruce, Marvin Maurice Bruce, both of Holly Springs; five sisters, Emma Rucker, Vernice Henderson, Rosemary Bruce, all of Milwaukee, Wisc., Pauline Goree of Shannon, Geneva Murphy of Dania, Fla.; three brothers, Percy Bruce of Batesville, Warren Bruce of Oxford, Calvin Bruce of Milwaukee; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood Bruce.

Pallbearers were members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. Honorary pallbearers were his brothers, brothers-in-law, nephews and cousins.
