POPLARVILLE - Mrs. Violet Burge Baringer, 88, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in Poplarville.
Mrs. Baringer was a native of Poplarville and a longtime resident of Wiggins. She was a graduate of Pearl River College.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. George R. Baringer of St. Augustine, Fla., and Ned T. Baringer of Slidell, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

William Leslie Burbridge Sr.

BILOXI - Mr. William Leslie "Uncle William" Burbridge Sr., 94, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in Biloxi.
Mr. Burbridge was born July 26, 1906, in Biloxi and was a former resident of New York. He was a Navy veteran of World War II where he received the Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon and the American Theater Ribbon. He was retired from the Teamsters Union and was a former resident of San Antonio, Texas, and Gulfport. He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross in New York City. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Biloxi and attended St. James Roman Catholic Church in Gulfport.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Victoria Catherine Raphael Burbridge; his second wife, Lucille Wright Burbridge; his third wife, Emma Turner Burbridge; his parents, Sampronius and Josephine Thomas Burbridge; two brothers, Simpronius Burbridge and Lloyd Burbridge; and two sisters, Helen Burbridge and Estelle Burbridge.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Burbridge of San Antonio; two sons, William Burbridge Jr. of North Carolina and Richard Burbridge of Jamaica, N.Y.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Richmond Funeral Home in Biloxi. A service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church where friends may call one hour before service time. Burial will be in Biloxi City Cemetery.
Rayford A. Byrd

SAUCIER - Mr. Rayford A. "Johnny" Byrd, 68, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, in Saucier.
Mr. Byrd was a native of Seminary and had been a resident of Saucier for 18 years. He was an Army veteran and was employed as a front desk clerk for Treasure Bay Casino in Biloxi. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Seminary.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elvin Byrd; his mother, Onie Campbell, and a brother, Emmet Byrd.
Survivors include his wife, Caroline Byrd of Saucier; a son, Bryant Keyes of Waveland; a sister, Sue Moulds of Hattiesburg; his stepmother, Etta Byrd of Hattiesburg, and two grandchildren.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Riemann Memorial Funeral Home, U.S. 49 North, Gulfport. A service will be at 2 p.m. today at Union Baptist Church in Seminary with burial in the church cemetery.
Rickey Doyle Sr.
KILN - Rickey Doyle Sr., 46, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, in Kiln.
Mr. Doyle was a native of Houston, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Melody Doyle of Picayune; two sons, Rickey Lynn Doyle Jr. and Bobby Joe Doyle, both of Pass Christian; two stepsons, Daniel Lee Gaedchens of Starkville and Thomas Brock Thompson of Picayune; his parents, Arthur A. and Billie Murphy Watkins of Houma, La.; two brothers, Charles Riley Doyle and Arthur Watkins Jr., both of Houma; two sisters, Sherry Marie Doyle of Houma and Bobbie Jean Roberts of Picayune; and two grandchildren.

BAY ST. LOUIS - Marion Rose Finch, 71, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in Bay St. Louis.
Mrs. Finch was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Bay St. Louis. She was a member of the Word of Faith Christian Fellowship in Bay St. Louis and the Senior Citizen Bowling League.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Finch Sr.; her parents, Joseph L. and Clementine Cyrus Joachim, and a brother, Joseph Lewis Joachim.
Survivors include five sons, Raymond J. Finch Jr. of LaCombe, La., Jerry C. Finch and Tim Finch, both of Bay St. Louis, Daniel J. Finch of Slidell, and Steven A. Finch of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Carol Ann Dastugue of Bay St. Louis; a brother, Erwin Joachim of New Orleans; a sister, Joyce Marie Joachim Letort of Arabi, La., 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Alfred Hennen Forman

GULFPORT - Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 12, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Riemann Funeral Home, 25th Avenue, Gulfport, for Alfred Hennen Forman.
Mr. Forman, 94, died Sunday, October 8, 2000, in Gulfport after a brief illness. Born in Evangeline, LA, June 25, 1906, he was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. A.H. Forman of Vinton, LA.
He was graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1927 with a B.E. degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. His social fraternity was Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He was a member of Tru Beta Pi Honorary Engineering Fraternity.
Following graduation, Forman worked for Mississippi Power and Light for 21 years before moving to Phoenix, AZ. During his 20 years with Arizona Public Service Co., he was elected to their Board of Directors, Vice-President, Ex-Vice-President and General Manager of the utility. He retired as Vice Chairman of the Board.
While in Phoenix he served on numerous boards of civil and charitable organizations. He was on the Board of Trustees of Tulane University, a Senior Warden of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral-Phoenix. During World War II, he served as a Lieutenant in the Navy.
He married the former Charlotte Sanders of Jackson, MS, in 1934.
Retired, he and his wife moved to Gulfport where they lived for 30 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and sailor, and a member of the Gulfport Yacht Club.
Survivors include nephews, James H. Meigs of Anniston, Alabama, and John S. Floeter of Dallas, Texas; nieces, Helen Meigs Laakford of Trussville, Alabama, Amelia F. Drumwright of Denver, CO, and Hennen F. Guinn of Houston, Texas.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.

LIBERTY - Edith Elaine Lawson Kinabrew, 89, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, in Centreville.
Mrs. Kinabrew was born Feb. 23, 1911, in Amite County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Enterprise Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Kinabrew; her father, Lee Lawson; her mother, Katheryn Elizabeth Bell, and 12 brothers and sisters.

GULFPORT - Linda Kay McFarland, age 51, and a resident of Gulfport, died in Gulfport on Tuesday, October 10, 2000.
Ms. McFarland was a native of Washington, Pennsylvania, and was a longtime resident of the Gulf Coast. She had been the front office manager for Best Western and was a Catholic.
She is preceded in death by her father, William F. Grantz and her survivors include her mother, Mrs. Helen Bristol of Gulfport; one son and one daughter, Carl McFarland and Kelly Streit, both of San Francisco, California; two brothers, William Grantz of Pennsylvania, and Ernie Bristol; one grandson, Zachary Streit; a nephew, Jeffrey Grantz and a niece, Katie Grantz; and by her longtime companion, Gary Jenkins of Gulfport.

Mr. Parker was a native of New Orleans and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a former boxer on the Coast and was the retired owner of Biloxi Tent and Awning Company and Pap's Guns and Reloading Supplies. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

CROSSROADS - J.H. "Buster" Strahan, 82, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in Bogalusa, La.
Mr. Strahan was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of Byrd's Chapel Methodist Church. He organized the Crossroad Volunteer Fire Department and received the Jefferson Award in 1994. He was a volunteer for over 32 nursing homes in Louisiana and Mississippi.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Lumpkin Strahan; two sons, Jimmy Wayne Strahan and Jackie Ray Strahan, both of Crossroads; two daughters, Johnnie Sue Stewart of Henleyfield and Barbara Strahan Anthaume of New Orleans; two sisters, Martha Paige of Crossroads and Miriam Allen of Henleyfield; three brothers, James Strahan of Crossroads, George Strahan of Silver Hill, Ala., and Joe Strahan of Hattiesburg; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

OCEAN SPRINGS - Mr. John Leonard Swartz, 74, of Ocean Springs, died Sunday, October 8, 2000, in Ocean Springs.
Mr. Swartz had been a resident of the community for 17 years. He was born in Grand Haven, Michigan, on November 30, 1925. He retired from Abbott Labs, Inc., in North Chicago, Illinois, as Corporate Director of Security in 1983. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army for over 20 years and retired as Chief Warrant Officer (CWO-3). He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 28 of Grand Haven, Michigan, and was a member of the Poor Man's Yacht Club in Ocean Springs. He was a Protestant.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Josephine Wagonmaker Swartz.
Survivors include his wife, Betty LaJeune Swartz of Ocean Springs; two daughters, Cheryl Portteus and her husband, Steve, of Earl Park, Indiana, and Andrea Jo Holden and her husband, Neil of Ocean Springs; a son, Mike Swartz and his wife, Margaret of Algonquin, Illinois; two sisters, Ruth Carlson and Inez Vollmer, both of Spring Lake, Michigan; and seven grandchildren.

BILOXI - Melvin N. Cobb, 65, of Biloxi died Monday, November 6, 2000 in Gulfport.
Mr. Cobb was born in Leelahan Township, MI, and had been a resident of Biloxi for the past sixteen years. He was a member of Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa/Chippewa Indians in Peshawbestown, MI. He previously served in the U.S. Army. He had been attending Our Lady of Fatima Church in Biloxi for the past year.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nadja Lois Cobb; his parents, James Cobb and Carrie Mathais Thiebout Cobb; two sisters, MaryAnn Cobb and Isabelle Cobb; and four brothers, Reuben Cobb, Ivan Cobb, Willard Cobb and Art Paul Cobb.
Survivors include three daughters, Annette S. Jones of Mobile, AL; Debra J. Jones and Amy M. Cobb, both of Biloxi; two sons, Mark A. Robert Eveleth Johnson Sr.

KILN - Robert Eveleth Johnson, Sr. died November 5, 2000, at his home in Kiln, MS. Born in Nebraska and raised in California, Bob followed his father in the contracting business, and was a contractor for many years. He became a Mason in 1953, and moved his family to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1974. In World War II, Robert was a transport pilot trainer at Thunderbird Field in AZ. He held an FFA Commercial Pilot's License.
He was preceded in death by Odessa and Walter Johnson, parents; Roland Johnson, brother; and Donald Crump Johnson, son.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Crump Johnson; his children, Robert Eveleth Johnson, Timothy Crump Johnson, Debra Dawn Johnson; and his grandchildren, Carly Odessa Johnson and Yekaterina Johnson.

Mrs. McCord was a native of Los Angeles and had been a resident of Diamondhead for the past six years. She was of the Catholic faith. She was a member of the Valley Monte League in San Jose, Calif., and a member of the Ladies Bridge Club of Diamondhead.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Louise Martin Keays; and a sister.
Survivors include her husband, Neville "Pat" McCord of Diamondhead; and a brother, William Keays of California.

GULFPORT - Gene Edward Nickels, 72, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in Gulfport.
Mr. Nickels was born July 25, 1928. He was a native of Columbus, Miss., and a longtime resident of the Gulf Coast. He started J&G Upholstery and Refinishing in 1968 and also Nickels Office Furniture, which he managed until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Nickels and Eloise Nickels.

Mrs. Stephens was a native and lifelong resident of Biloxi. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Biloxi and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ann Grayson Chapter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Eloise Childress Wentzell.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Bush Stephens Sr. of Ocean Springs; a daughter, Nancy DeCoux of Niceville, Fla.; a son, Fred Stephens Jr. of Biloxi; and two grandchildren.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Biloxi where friends may call an hour before service time. Burial will be in Biloxi City Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
