LONG BEACH - Juliet Moss (Hughes) Collier, 95, formerly of Massaco Street, Simsbury, Conn., wife of the late Paul D. Collier, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, in Long Beach, MS.
She was born April 13, 1902, in Fayette, Mo., daughter of the late Virginius Jackson and Elfin Stella (Moss) Hughes, and had lived in Simsbury for most of her life prior to moving to Long Beach last July. She received her BS degree from Central Missouri State Teachers College and her Master's degree from Columbia University, NYC. Mrs. Collier was employed as a teacher with the Simsbury School System for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Simsbury, CT.; the Abigail Phelps Chapter, D.A.R., where she held both local and state offices; the Pas Worth Matron of the Hesper Chapter No. 71; O.E.S.; and was a member of the Simsbury Historical Society; the Simsbury Garden Club, and several other genealogical societies.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Martin L. and Janet J. Collier of Alexandria, VA., and Paul D. Collier of New Haven, CT.; a daughter, Janet C. Millard of Long Beach, MS.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Addie E. Guerensey and her son-in-law, Clifford T. Guerensey.
Funeral service will be Thursday, Feb. 12, 2 p.m. at First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT., with the Rev. Jean Blanning officiating. Burial will be in Simsbury Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Vincent Funeral Home, Simsbury, CT., has charge of arrangements.

POPLARVILLE - Mr. Charles Monroe Hankins, 58, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, in Poplarville.
Mr. Hankins was a member of the Lighthouse of Hope Assembly of God Church. He was a self-employed contractor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Elzie and Berlon Price Hankins.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Kathryn Hankins of Poplarville; a son, Charlie Hankins of Robertsdale, Ala.; two daughters, Vickie Harper of Katie, Texas, and Tammy Gipson of Baton Rouge; a sister, Ila Jean Linden of Foley, Ala.; a brother, James Berton Hankins of Chatom, Ala.; and six grandchildren.

PASCAGOULA - Henry E. Hickman, 76, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, in Pascagoula.
Mr. Hickman was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Saucier. He was a retired sheet metal foreman with Ingalls Shipbuilding, served in the Coast Guard during World War II, and was a life member of VFW Post No. 3373 in Pascagoula.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hickman of Pascagoula; three sons, Wayne Hickman of Irvington, Ala., Greg Hickman of Escatawpa and Terry Hickman of Satsuma, Ala.; a stepson, Danny Perry of Escatawpa; a stepdaughter, Frances Vander of Pascagoula; five sisters, Estelle Boden of McHenry, Mary Kate Honkins of Pa., Georgie Lee O'Neal, Helen Rae Preston and Juanita Hattin, all of Wiggins; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point. A service will be at noon in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in Serene Memorial Gardens in Escatawpa.
Eula V. Parkman
MONTICELLO - Mrs. Eula V. Parkman, 85, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, in Brandon.
Mrs. Parkman joined the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church at an early age.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wyatt Butler and Vinnie Armstrong Butler; and three children.
Survivors include her husband, John "Long John" Parkman of Monticello; four sons, John L. Parkman and Charles E. Parkman, both of Gulfport, Calvin Parkman of Sumrall and Clarence Parkman of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Dorothy J. McNair and Sarah Parkman, both of Jackson, and Mary K. Clark of New Orleans; 26 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Polk was born Jan. 12, 1913, in Jefferson Davis County. He was a retired supervisor with Ingalls Shipbuilding and was a member of First Baptist Church in Moss Point.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Cora Polk; and a sister, Virgie Allman.
Survivors include his wife, Annie A. OCEAN SPRINGS - May Thompson, 77, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, in Ocean Springs.
Mrs. Thomspon was born Dec. 20, 1920, in Talledega, Ala. She spent most of her life in St. Louis, Mo., where she owned and operated several beauty shops. She moved to Ocean Springs in 1970. As a resident of the Coast, she owned and operated several business, the Royal Chateau beauty shop in Long Beach, the Driftwood Lounge in Ocean Springs, and later the Country Place Lounge in Wade. She retired in 1995.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Dunkman Sr.; her second husband, Kenneth Thompson; a son, William Dunkman; and a daughter, Betty Dunkman.
Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine Carpenter of Falls Church, Va.; a son, Robert Dunkman Jr. of Ocean Springs; and a sister, Katherine Toolen of Champaign, Ill.

Allan John Watson Jr.

GULFPORT - Allan John Watson Jr. (Jack), 89, died Sunday, Feb. 8, in Gulfport.
Born Aug. 11, 1908, in Biloxi, Mr. Watson was educated in the Biloxi public schools and in 1929 received a BS degree in electrical engineering from Mississippi State University where he also did post-graduate work. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi engineering honor societies.
His career as a professional engineer spanned 43 years at Mississippi Power Co., where he began working as a student engineer during his college days. He joined the company full-time as an engineering assistant in 1930 and progressed over the years to the position of president and chief executive officer, which he assumed in 1958. He was also a director of Mississippi Power Company as well as of the Southern Company and became chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Mississippi Power in 1972. He retired as chairman of the board in 1973 and as a director of both MPC and the Southern Company in 1978.
A registered professional engineer, Mr. Watson was a member of the Mississippi and National Societies of Professional Engineers and a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
He directed the effort to restore electric service to the Mississippi Coast following Hurricane Camille in 1969 and in 1970, accepted on behalf of Mississippi Power, the Edison Award, the utility Industry's highest honor, presented by the Edison Electric Institute for the company's outstanding performance.
Mr. Watson was also an advisory director of Hancock Bank, Gulfport; director and member of the executive committee of the Mississippi Business and Industrial Development Corporation; and a trustee of Southern Research Institute of Birmingham. He served on the Mississippi Agricultural & Industrial Board from 1964 to 1967 and was a director of the Mississippi Economic Council and chairman of its Resources and Development Committee in 1967 and 1968.
Always active in his community, Mr. Watson was a former director and president of the Gulfport Rotary Club and a former director of the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce and the Gulf Coast Symphony. He served as vice president and a member of the executive board of the Pine Burr Area Council, Boy Scouts of America and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award in 1969. He was also a trustee for the Gulf Pines Girl Scouts Council Trust fund and was a trustee of Piney Woods Country Life School.
Mr. Watson was an Episcopalian and a vestryman for many years at Church of the Redeemer in Biloxi, serving as senior warden from 1960-63. He became a member of St. Peter's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Gulfport in 1977.
He was a longtime member of the Gulfport Yacht Club and had served on the board of directors. He also held membership in the Boston Club of New Orleans, the Capital City Petroleum Club in Jackson and the Downtown Club in Meridian.
Mr. Watson was preceded in death by his parents, Allan John Watson and Nell White Watson; and a sister, Mary Ellen Watson.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Jeanne Doty Watson; two children, Maria Louise Watson and Allan John Watson III, both of Gulfport; and a brother, William White Watson of New Augusta.
Burial will be private. A memorial Eucharist will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at St. Peter's by-the-Sea Episcopal where the family will receive friends for a half hour before the service.

POPLARVILLE - Mr. James T. Woodard, 78, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, in Poplarville.
Mr. Woodard was a native of Baxterville. He was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a veteran of the Army, served in World War II with the Combat Engineer Fifth Army, was an officer with the VFW and was an officer with the DAV.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Pagle Woodard; and two sons, Jerry Lynn Woodard and Walter Ivan Woodard.

She had been a resident of Ocean Springs for the past 25 years. She was a member of T.O.P.S. in Ocean Springs where she was the 1991 Charm and Beauty Queen of Mississippi. She attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Ocean Springs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Egan; two sons, Jay Egan and Buckley Egan; and her parents, James Henry and Clara Tally Martin.

GULFPORT - Vera C. Hogan, 88, of 901 West Birch Dr., died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1998, in Ocean Springs.
Mrs. Hogan was born Oct. 20, 1910, in Reardan, Wash. She had been a longtime resident of Burlington, Iowa, before residing in Gulfport. She had been a bookkeeper for the Buick and Pontiac dealerships in Keokuk and later was employed for Hawkeye Motors in Burlington. She was an Avon representative. She was a 1973 graduate of LaSalle University where she received a degree in interior decorating.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Maude Louise Horner Fisher; a brother, Charles S. Fisher; and a grandson, Robbie Fisher.
Survivors include her husband, William B. Hogan; a son, William R. Fisher; a daughter, Bonnie C. Furniss, all of Gulfport; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Mr. Kennington was a native of Lancaster, S.C., and a resident of the Coast for 35 years. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War and was retired from the Air Force and the U.S. Postal Service. He was a life member of the VFW, past VFW Commander, First District Junior Vice Commander, life member of the MOC, past SEAM Squirrel Supreme 6th District Mississippi State Representative, and member of the Grey Beards. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emile Kennington; his father, Percy J. Kennington; and a sister, Lucille Kellams.

GULFPORT - Michael D. "Mad Dog" Mandel, 36, of Gulfport, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in Gulfport.
Mr. Mandel was a native of San Antonio and a resident of Gulfport since 1974. He was the first quadraplegic in the world to skydive, making a total of 24 jumps. He was also the first quadraplegic to have a Class A sky diving license. He was an artist and attended River of Life Church of God in Gulfport.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Max and Viola Mandel; and a brother, Kenneth Mandel.
Survivors include his mother, June Mandel of Gulfport; his father, David Mandel of Pass Christian; his stepfather, John Oglialoro of Lyman; a brother, Michael Oglialoro of Pass Christian; a sister, Becky Mandel Drounette of Gulfport; and his grandparents, A.H. and Medair Ellis of Harlingen, TX, and Lorraine Beecher of Stockdale, TX.
A service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at Riemann Memorial Funeral Home, U.S. 49 North, Gulfport, where friends may call two hours before service time.

Mathew J. Raigan

POPLARVILLE - Mr. Mathew J. Raigan, 55, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in Poplarville.
Mr. Raigan was a commercial fish spotter, diver and boat and airplane designer. He attended Juniper Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda C. Raigan of Poplarville; three sons, Travis Raigan of Ohio, Preston Raigan and Mathew Raigan II, both of Venice, La.; three daughters, Bridgett Raigan of Buras, La., Melissa Raigan of Hammond, La., and Elizabeth Raigan of Poplarville; his mother, Pearl Boudreaux of Westwego, La.; three sisters, Naomi Boudreaux, Ruth Boudreaux and Rebecca Boudreaux; four brothers, Nathan Bordreaux and Ray Bordreaux, all of Marrero, La., John Bordreaux of Virginia and David Bordreaux of Algiers, La; and five grandchildren.
A service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at White Funeral Home Chapel in Poplarville where friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Poplarville.
Mildred Mae Salters

LONG BEACH - Mrs Mildred Mae Beech Salters, 82, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in Gulfport.
Mrs. Salters was a native of Long Beach. She was a homemaker and was a member of Central Baptist Church in Long Beach.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Ida Beech; a granddaughter, Jennifer Salters; and two sisters, Mert M. Hammons and Sue Beech.
Survivors include her husband, Rube Salters; a son, Thomas Salters, both of Long Beach; two daughters, Judy Durel of Long Beach and Patsy Capers of Saucier; two sisters, Joyce Alexander of Long Beach and Evertta Franke of Riceville; a brother, Billy Beech of Gulfport; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Riemann Funeral Home, 505 Jeff Davis Avenue in Long Beach. A service will be at 11:30 a.m. today at the funeral home, with graveside services to follow in Allen Cemetery, 28th Street in Long Beach.

GULFPORT - James Aubrey Swords, 60, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, in Gulfport.
Mr. Swords was a native of the Gulf Coast and a graduate of Mississippi State University. He was an Army veteran and was an engineer for Phillips 66. He was a member of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ocie Otis Swords.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Swords; three sons, Mark Bain and Jeffery Bain, all of Gulfport, and David Bain of Austin, Texas; a brother, William Swords of Baldwin; two sisters, Stella Weathersby of Tupelo and Nancy Hopkins of Fairfield, Ohio.
A service will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Riemann Memorial Funeral Home, U.S. 49 North, Gulfport, where friends may call one hour before service time. Burial will be in Biloxi National Cemetery.
The family prefers memorials to the American Heart Association.

GULFPORT - Deloshie Wortham, 82, of 5211 Arkansas Ave., died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, in Gulfport.
Mrs. Wortham was a native of Simpson County and was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Handsboro. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Wortham.
A service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Missionary Baptist Church of Handsboro where friends may call one hour before service time. Burial will be in Biloxi City Cemetery. Richmond's Funeral Home in Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
