Joan Maxey
BALTIMORE, Md. - Joan Thomas Maxey, 65, formerly of Myrtle, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at St. Agnes Healthcare in Baltimore. She was born Sept. 9, 1937, in Myrtle to the late James Paul and Trannie McKeown Thomas. She was a former seamstress and cashier.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the United Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Thomas Wiginton officiating. Burial will be in the Glenfield Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Kay Jones and her husband, Rodney, of Lusby, Md.; her former husband, Bobby Maxey of Newberg, Md.; two grandchildren, Jonna Jones and Justin Jones; three sisters, Betty Robbins and Shirley Davis, both of New Albany, and Rachel Smithey of Guntown.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

David Lindsey
OXFORD - David Eugene Lindsey, 72, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. He was a retired farmer and served as a Private in the U.S. Marines.
Survivors include two brothers, Ronald L. Lindsey of Oxford and Gerald S. Lindsey of Bakersfield, Calif.

Maryelsie Harrell
OXFORD - Maryelsie Hawkins Harrell, 77, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. She was retired as Senior Scientific Programmer with Lockheed Aircraft in Marietta, Ga. She was a graduate of University High School and received a B.S. from Blue Mountain College in mathematics. She received a M.S. in mathematics from the University of Mississippi. She was a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church in Tupelo.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Knox Harrell of Oxford; one sister, Joann Wilson of Oxford; two brothers, Dewey Hawkins of Oxford and Harry Hawkins of Birmingham, Ala.; several nieces and nephews, Leah Hawkins and Lauren Heiberg, both of Memphis, Tenn., Leslie DeMoya of San Diego, Calif., Shannon Long and Brian Hawkins, both of Tupelo, Lana Hawkins of Los Angeles, Calif., and Maudann Cain and Terry Hawkins, both of Oxford.

Chester N. Dawson
TISHOMINGO - Chester N. Dawson, 79, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at the Iuka Hospital after an extended illness. He was born June 22, 1923, to the late Frank and Carrie Dawson, and was a lifelong resident of Tishomingo County. He was a deacon and past Adult Men's Sunday School teacher at Tishomingo Baptist Church. He was a Past Master of Tishomingo Masonic Lodge No. 522, a member of the Scottish Rite and a Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. He served as Sheriff of Tishomingo County and was a charter member of the Mississippi Sheriffs' Boys and Girls Ranch. He was a former employee of Blue Bell Inc., LooMack and Ryder Truck Lines. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, support member of the Tishomingo County Retired Teachers' Association and past president of the Tishomingo High School Alumni Association, a retired UTD farmer and a sawmiller. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. He was an avid fox hunter, a devoted husband, father and "PaPaw".
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Tishomingo Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Langley and Dr. Jim Pinkerton officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery with full Masonic Rites. Cutshall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ruth Page Dawson of Tishomingo; one son, Kim and Teresa Dawson of Germantown, Tenn.; one daughter, Angie and Paul Langley of Booneville; two brothers, Ray and Janice Dawson of Tishomingo and Fay and Marilla Dawson of Tupelo; one sister, Ava Hill of Tishomingo; four grandsons, Shane and Jenny Dawson of Margerum, Ala., Jarod and Beth Dawson of Tishomingo, Zack Langley and Cody Langley, both of Booneville.

Pansy C. Long
Pansy C. Long, 81, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at her daughter's residence in the Beech Springs community after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Union County and formerly of the Calhoun City area. She had lived in the Beech Springs community with her daughter for nearly a year. She was retired as a nurse's assistant at the Dogwood Plantation in Saltillo and a member of the East Heights Baptist Church. She loved to crochet, cook for her family and her flowers. She was the widow of retired Baptist minister, Rev. Wilson Long.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the New Liberty Baptist Church in Calhoun County with the Rev. Terry Ledbetter and the Rev. Clarence Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the New Liberty Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include four daughters, Martha Lucius and her husband, Snap, of Tupelo, Mary Lamkin and her husband, John, of Grenada, Lynda Shackelford and her husband, Bobby Joe, of Dorsey, and Virginia "Jennie" Langford and her husband, David, of Beech Springs; three sons, Charles Long and his wife, Cathy, of Richton, Buddy Long and his wife, Joyce, of Mooreville, and Tim Long and his wife, Teresa, of Skyline; one sister, Mrs. Vance Roberts of Selmer, Tenn.; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; her special friend, Sue Martin.
She was preceded in death by one brother, W.C. Ramsey Sr.; and one grandchild, Charles Michael Long.
Pallbearers will be Scott Long, Danny Lucius, Dwayne Lamkin, Terry Dickerson, Mark Long, T.J. Long and Tony Long.

Marvin Reeves
BARTAHATCHIE - Earnest Marvin Reeves, 61, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at his residence in the Bartahatchie community. He was born Mary 27, 1941, in Monroe County to the late James and Edith Chaffin Reeves, and was a lifelong resident. He was a retired employee of Walker Manufacturing Company in Aberdeen with 36 years of service. He had been employed by Peoploungers in Nettleton for the past two years. He was a member of the Prairie Baptist Church. He loved to fish and hunt and was a member of the Board of Directors of the State Line Hill Hunting Club.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with the Rev. Ricky Harlow and the Rev. Robert Earl Fowlkes officiating. Burial will be in the Sullivan Cemetery in Monroe County.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Ann Smith Reeves of Bartahatchie; one daughter, Barbara Ann Harlow and her husband, Ricky, of Amory; four sons, Jerry Wayne Reeves and his wife, Sherry, of Smithville, Jimmy Lee Reeves and his wife, Wanda, Ricky Dean Reeves and his wife, Lori, and Jesse Lee Reeves and his wife, Becky, all of Bartahatchie; one brother, Eddie Reeves and his wife, Lillie, of Bartahatchie; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Patty Joe Reeves.

Michael Mincy
MICHIE, Tenn. - Michael David Mincy, 24, died Friday, April 4, 2003, in Madison County, Miss. He was born Dec. 9, 1978, in Selmer, Tenn., to Edwin and Donna Thacker Mincy. He was employed as a truck driver for Elam Mattress Company. He was a 1997 graduate of McNairy Central High School and attended the Acton Church of Christ.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Corinthian Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Mike Eaton officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Church of Christ Cemetery.
Survivors include his parents, Edwin and Donna Thacker Mincy of Michie, Tenn.; one sister, Sharon Mincy of Michie, Tenn.; his girlfriend, Amanda Gray of Chewalla, Tenn.; his grandparents, Grady and Eula Thacker of Michie, Tenn.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Doreen Mincy.
Pallbearers will be Billy Harrison, Nathan Harrison, Jason Harrison, Todd Dickey and Keith Sides.

WOODLAND - Lillian Madline Ooten, 85, died Friday, April 4, 2003. A native of Nashville, she was a Protestant and a homemaker.

Survivors include one sister, Lena Faulkner of Woodland; six daughters, Mildred Ann Raley of Abington, Md., Mary Ann Stone, Betty Smith and Linda, all of Baltimore, Md., Madline Fullwood and Bobbie Copas, both of Florida; two sons, Billy Ray Mainis and James Copas, both of Florida; two nephews, Denis Faulkner and John Michael Faulkner, both of Woodland.

HOLLY SPRINGS - Charlotte Virginia Wilson McClatchy, 87, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Holly Springs. She was born Sept. 3, 1915, to John Olin Wilson and Ida Cook Wilson. She was former President of the Holly Springs Garden Club, a member of the Thursday Club and a member of the Regent of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a homemaker and a member of the Christ Episcopal Church. She was the widow of Dr. S. P. McClatchy.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Christ Epsicopal Church with Bro. Bruce McMillan officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Jack P. Hagin of Holly Springs and Sam P. McClatchy Jr. of Germantown; one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth McAlexand of Columbia, S.C.; one brother, Eugene Wilson of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Lonita W. Davis of Sea Island, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Ruth Blackmon.

WATER VALLEY - Josephine Arbuckle Sartain, 78, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at her residence. She was born April 25, 1924, in Bruce to Joseph Arbuckle and Mary Willie Melton Arbuckle. She was co-owner of Sartain Butane Gas Company in Water Valley. She was the widow of Johnny Doyle Sartain. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Bruce Cemetery with Dr. Christian Hall officiating. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one brother, Charles E. Hogue of West Memphis, Ark.; one sister, Mary Sanders of Eight Mile, Ala.; many nieces and nephews.

AMORY - George L. Estes, 78, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the Tishomingo Living Center in Iuka. He was a a farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Demple McKinney Estes, in 1972.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with the Rev. Mike McFarlen and the Rev. Dan Hindman officiating. Burial will be in the Amory Masonic Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte Townsend and her husband, Tommy, of Vina, Ala.; one son, Thomas Estes and his wife, Brenda, of Toney, Ala.; three grandchildren, Crystal Townsend, Kevin Townsend and Claudia Townsend, all of Vina, Ala.; one sister, Dorothy Selman of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents, George Lafayette Estes and Dora Bell Estes; and a brother, John Estes.

LOS ANGELES - Narciss Cole, 90, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Midway Hospital in Los Angeles. She was a native of Lafayette County, Miss. She was formerly of Oxford, Memphis, Tenn., and Chicago, Ill. She was the widow of Will Henry Cole.

Malvin Jackson
BOONEVILLE - Malvin Q. Jackson, 78, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at his home. He was born Jan. 8, 1925, in Tippah County, the son of Jim Lee Jackson and Emma Wilder Jackson. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Palmer Baptist Church in Ripley. He enjoyed trafficking and trading items of all kinds.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Doug Greenway, J.A. Thornton and Danny Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Rest Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Christine Merriman Jackson, whom he married Nov. 23, 1950; a daughter, Pam Jackson of Tupelo; seven sons, Danny Jackson and his wife, Evelyn, of Ripley, Darrell Jackson and his wife, Stephanie, of Falkner, Dewayne Jackson, Donald Jackson, David Jackson and Doug Jackson, all of Booneville, Dewey Jackson and his wife, Liz, of Rienzi; two brothers, Willis Jackson of Ripley and Harvey Jackson and his wife, Ann, of Oakland, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and 11 brothers.

ABERDEEN - Nathaniel Hinton Sr., 77, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at his home. He was born May 15, 1925. He was a carpenter.

Survivors include four daughters, Loreann Hinton, Mary Hearn and Elizabeth Hinton, all of Aberdeen, and Lillie Ranson of Amory; two brothers, James Hinton of Aberdeen and Walter Hinton of Chicago; three sisters, Essie D. Doss of Nettleton, Ella Gary of Chicago, and Dorothy Poole of Dayton, Ohio; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hinton; one son, Nathaniel Hinton Jr.; three brothers, John Hinton, Ira Lee Hinton and Willie Bob Hinton.
