Rosalie Stokes Robert

Age: 80
Rosalie Stokes Robert, 80, made a peaceful transition at her residence in Winona and went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 21, 2004.
She retired in 1986 after 39 1/2 years as a teacher in Winona. A licensed funeral directress at Roberts & Sons Mortuary, she was the widow of Lindsey Roberts, Sr., a MVSU alumni, an active member of Haven United Methodist Church, the Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association and numerous organizations.
Her torch has passed to her children, Lindsey Roberts, Jr., and Keith Stokes Roberts of Winona, Michael Edward Roberts of Vaiden, and Gloria Johnson and Debra Williams of Piscataway, NJ, and her last surviving sibling, Mrs. Vertilla Stokes Friar Anderson of Ocean Springs, MS. She has 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday, January 27 at 2 p.m. at Ed Roberts Chapel of Remembrance, with interment in the Forrest Hill Cemetery, both in Winona.

Laverne Moore
Died: Tuesday, January 20, 2004
Age: 91
Laverne Moore of Green wood, 91, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at Golden Age Nursing Home in Green wood. Services were Thursday, January 22, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington with burial in Pinecrest Cemetery in Tchula. Rev. John Evans officiated.
Mrs. Moore was born to the late John Davidson and Ola Dees Davidson and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Tchula Methodist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Bobby C. Moore of St. Augustine, Texas, 86, died Monday, January 19, 2004 at Evergreen Nursing Home. Services were Friday, January 23, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Salem Methodist Church in Newport with burial in McLean Cemetery in Sallis. Rev. Alton Wasson and Rev. Skipper Maxwell officiated. Southern Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hutchison was born in Goodman to the late David H. Hutchison and Mae Texas; two sons, William B. Hutchison of Burkburnett, Texas; one daughter, Vicki Ann Hutchison of Wichita Falls, Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 21 at the Culpepper Funeral Home in Kosciusko with burial in Parkway Cemetery.
Ralph B. Tutterow

Age: 84
Ralph B. Tutterow, Sr. of Tchula, 84, died Sunday, January 18, 2004 of heart failure at Green wood Leflore Hospital in Green wood. Services were Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Tchula with burial in Pinecrest Cemetery in Tchula. Rev. Larry Edwards officiated. Stricklin-King Funeral Home of Yazoo City handled the arrangements.
Mr. Tutterow, Sr. was born to the late John Henry Tutterow and Dora Tutterow of Mississippi Chemical Corp. and a member of the First Baptist Church of Tchula.
Survivors include: wife, Grace Tutterow of Tchula; one daughter, Patricia Legger of Columbus, Tennessee; one brother, Edgar Tutterow of Athens, Mississippi Medical Center’s Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital.
Clinton Ladell Steed, Jr.
Died: Saturday, April 24, 2004
Age: 62
Clinton Ladell Steed, Jr., 62, died April 24, 2004, at his home on Bee Lake in Thornton.
Services were Wednesday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at Stringer Family Chapel in Hazlehurst with burial in Crystal Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Steed had lived in Tchula for 30 years. He was retired from Hot Shot Express where he was a truck driver for over 30 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam and served in the Air Force after the Vietnam War.
Survivors include: daughter, Teri Steed of Brandon; step-father, Melvin Slater of Byram; brothers, Billy L. Pitts of Crystal Springs and Robert N. Slater of Madison.
Martha Jean Montgomery
Died: Thursday, April 22, 2004
Age: 92
Martha Jean Montgomery of Hattiesburg (formerly of Pickens), 92, died Thursday, April 22, 2004 at Wesley Manor in Hattiesburg.
Graveside services were Saturday, April 24 at Mizpah Cemetery in Durant. Dr. Orland Burt officiated. Southern Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Montgomery was born in Durant on December 29, 1911 to Edwin Weston Anthony and Daisy Delitha Williams and she was a teacher.
Survivors include: two sons, Thomas “Tom” Montgomery of Hattiesburg, and Tony Montgomery of Jackson; two daughters, Byrd Montgomery Howie of Hattiesburg and Daisy Montgomery Braswell of Colleyville, Mississippi, and taught for thirty-five years at Goodman High School and Holmes Junior College in Goodman. For the past twenty years she has operated her farm in Yazoo County. She enjoyed working with a variety of animals including cattle and horses.
Survivors include: one sister-in-law, Hope Thomas of Vaughan; nieces and nephews, Max Thomas and wife Lynn, and Mary Claire Thomas of Madison, Gay Thomas Brown and husband Wil-liam, and Megan Brown of Vaughan.
Sidney H. Peacock
Died: Wednesday, April 21, 2004
Age: 83
Sidney H. Peacock, Sr. of Schlater, 83, a retired farmer and cattleman, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at Green wood Leflore Hospital of congestive heart failure.
Graveside services were Thursday, April 22 at 2 p.m. at McNutt Cemetery in Schlater. Rev. F. Wilson Ray officiated. Williams and Lord Funeral Home in Green wood was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Peacock was born in Holmes County to the late Will and Annie Lloyd Lee Peacock. He was a graduate of Blue Mountain Military Academy. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the South Pacific Theater, France, Germany, Italy and Africa. Mr. Peacock was a member of Schlater Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter Debbie Dorrough.
Survivors include: wife, Estelle Lee Peacock of Schlater; one son, Sidney H. Peacock, Jr. of Green wood; three sisters, Clara Ginn Daniel, Elizabeth Henley, and Lloyd Peacock, all of Acona; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Brandon Peacock, Adrian Peacock, Ronny Counts, Chris Carpenter, Phillip Rhodes, Jessie Sudduth, Dennon McNeil, and David Jennings.
Mattie Blanche Hawkins

Age: 83
Mattie Blanche Ashley Hawkins of Durant, 83, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at University Nursing Center in Durant.
Services were Friday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Durant with burial in Mizpah Cemetery. Bro. Matt Brady officiated.
Mrs. Hawkins was born in Princeton, Kentucky, Valerie Farmer of Jackson, and Kaki Rhodes of Durant; one sister, Loretta Barnett of Benton, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Richard Farmer, Eric Farmer, David Farmer, B.B. Trehern, David Koeningsmark, and Ronnie Estes.
