James Aubrey Lindsey

James Aubrey Lindsey, 80, of the Darbun community near Tylertown, died Sept. 21, 2004, at Southwest Regional Medical Center.
Bishop Jim Ocenrider and Rev. Jackie Cooke officiated at services at Capps Funeral Home. Burial was in the Darbun Latter-day Saints Cemetery in Walthall County.
Lindsey was born Sept. 15, 1924, in Gilmer, Tex., son of Archie Willie Lindsey and Lillie Fair Walters Lindsey.
He was a retired 28-year-veteran of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers’ Assn. and twice past president of the Tennessee Peace Officers’ Assn. He was a championship marksman on the Mississippi Quarter Horse Assn. and the Washington Drake officiating.
He died Sept. 20, 2004, at his residence.
Wilson was a member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church.
He was born Oct. 9, 1946, in Franklinton, son of the late Russell and Ethel Harvey Wilson. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Elaine Dove; and one brother, Arnold Wilson.
Survivors include five sisters, Victoria Butler of New Orleans, Sherrie Hewitt and Alpha Wilson, both of Franklinton, La., Etta Williams of Tylertown, and Clara Wilson of Pensacola, Fla.; one brother, Russell Wilson Jr. of Avondale, La.; two special friends, Betty Peters and Willie Dean Ball.
Pallbearers were Arnold Wilson, Robert Wilson, Erskine Wilson, Lewis Wilson, Jerome Brumfield, Victor Brumfield, W.C. Ladner and Romel Holland.
Honorary pallbearers were James Russell Wilson, James A. Wilson, Lucius Burris, Conston Burris, Hamilton Burris and Otis Williams.
Burial was in Sweet Home Cemetery with Woods of Tylertown, Etta Magee of Franklinton, La., and Ruth Dillon of Chicago; one brother; James Dillon of Las Vegas, Nev.
Pallbearers were Gregory Magee, Daryl Dillon, Marc Dillon, Johnnie Dillon, Billy Lucas and Montez Lucas.
Honorary pallbearers were James C. Dillon, Odell Dillon, Limmie Lee Dillon, James Dillon, Wayne Dillon and Oliver Dillon.
Burial was in Dillon Hill Cemetery with Calif.; six great-grandchildren, John Lindley Marshall, James Clifton Johnson III, Kayley Van Fleet, Denton Wallace, Taylor Van Fleet and Erin Johnson; two brothers, Rudolph Johnson of Brandon and Robert Johnson of Columbia; a sister, Clara Carroll of Jackson.
Pallbearers were Oliver Bates, Duane Dillon, Bob Johnson, Jimmy Johnson, Larry Martin and Jimmy Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers were Reuben Lott, Reuben Reed Lott and Jimmy O’Quin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Walthall County Boys & Girls Club.
Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with Capps Funeral Home in charge.
Joyce Joffary

Graveside services for Joyce Joffary, 73, of New Orleans, were Sept. 27, 2004, at Burkhalter Cemetery with Sheryl Ohio, and Sheryl and Jim Texas, and Richard Simmons of Layton, Utah; a sister, Sadie Mayeaux of Luling, La.; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Burkhalter Cemetery with Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home in charge.
Russell Berry Slater
Funeral services for Russell Berry Slater, 87, who served as sheriff of Walthall County from 1968-1976, were Sept. 27, 2004, at Capps Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael W. Glenn officiating.
Slater served two terms as sheriff. He was the first county sheriff re-elected to a successive term after the state legislature passed the current law which allows Washington Funeral Home.
He died Nov. 20, 2004, at Washington Funeral Home in charge.
David Smith
