J. O. Keith, 83, of Durant died Saturday, December 7, 2002 at his residence from a heart attack. Services were held Monday, December 9 at Bowlin Baptist Church with burial in Bowlin Baptist Cemetery. Bro. Thomas Wicker and Bro. Daniel Blaylock officiated. Southern Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Keith was a retired factory worker for Airco Plastic, World War II veteran and a member of Bowlin Baptist Church.
Survivors include: wife, Lura K. Keith of Durant; four daughters, Patsy K. Blaylock, Barbara K. Shelton, Kathy K. King and Sue K. Thornton all of Durant; five sons, Edward Keith, Elbert Keith, and Leonard Keith all of Sallis; Tommy Keith of Goodman, and Calvin Keith of Jackson; one brother, V.B. Keith of Sallis; 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were: Rodger Cochran, Bo Cochran, Tony Cochran, Lynn Keith, Randy Keith, Dennis Keith and Lewis Engle.
Honorary pallbearers were: Bud Keith, Jimmy Keith and grandsons.
Inez Frost Bowie
Died: Saturday, December 07, 2002
Age: 89
Inez Frost Bowie, the daughter of Theron and Mary Barrentine Frost and sister of Louise Evans, was born in Holmes County on August 25, 1913, and passed away at Heber Springs, Arkansas, on December 7, 2002, at the age of 89 years.
A memorial service will be conducted a the Antioch Baptist Church in the Brozville Community at 10:00 a.m. on December 21, 2002. Memorials may be made to the Pulaski Heights Methodist Church Butler Class and The University of Arkansas Medical Center Eye Clinic in Little Rock. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. of Heber Springs, Arkansas.
Mrs. Bowie was a homemaker and attended Holmes Junior College in Goodman. She had been a resident of Little Rock since 1962 and was a member of the Pulaski Heights Methodist Church of Little Rock, the Butler Sunday School Class, and the Elmhurst Garden Club. She had also lived in Helena, Arkansas and moved to Heber Springs 2 years ago.
She is survived by: two sons, Paul Bowie of Heber Springs and Terry Bowie of Redondo Beach, TX passed away Sunday night, December 2, 2002. She was born Nov. 12, 1925 in El Paso, Texas College of Mines (UTEP). She was married to Howard Looney, who died in 1974. She was employed by the EL Paso Independent School District until her retirement in 1984. She served as a volunteer at Columbia Hospital for a number of years, and was a member of Vista Del Sol Baptist Church, League of Women Voters, El Paso County Historical Society, Discover El Paso, and Woman's Department Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 6 at First Baptist Church of Horizon City with Rev. Wes Phillips officiating. San Jose Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include: her husband, Ray Zeliff; daughters Joneen Michael of Goodman and Margaret Ames of Anchorage, Alaska; 5 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; one sister, Pearl La Rock of El Paso and a brother Ross Dehlinger of Nordland, Texas; one step-son, Brian Evans of Waynesboro; one step-daughter, Tammy Cochran of Clara; parents, Johnny and Ruby Toten of Durant; two brothers, Billy Toten of Viena, Virginia, and Mike Toten of Canton; and 4 grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were: Danny Joiner, Roger Cochran, Calvin Keith, Bill White, Mitchell Smith, and Tony Exum.
Leon O. Spell, Jr.
Died: Monday, November 25, 2002
Age: 82
Leon O. Spell, Jr., 82, died Thursday, November 21, 2002, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Services were Monday, November 25 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Hone in Clinton with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Spell was the son of Leon and Mellie Spell of Lexington. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army artillery division during the European Theater. Mr. Spell was a decorated soldier, receiving the Purple Heart. He was the founder of Spell Foundations and was in business over 20 years. He had been a resident of Clinton for 38 years. He is preceded in death by his parents: his wife, Vivian A. Spell; his son, Ricky Leon Spell, and his brothers, Udaley Spell, Udonell Spell, and Zebblin Spell.
Survivors include: two daughters, Carolyn Diann McQueen of Puckett and Cynthia Venesse Winstead of Lexington; one son, Ronald O. Spell of Clinton; one sister, Nettie Lena Byrd of Lexington; three brothers, Hassell Harding Spell of Pickens, Roy A. Spell of Jackson, and Lamar H. Spell of Florence; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Odell Leon Randle
Died: Monday, December 06, 2004
Age: 43
Odell Leon Randle, 43, of Lexington died Monday, December 6, 2004, as a result of an automobile accident.
Services were held on Saturday, December 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Porter & Son's Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington with burial in Zion Cemetery in Lexington. Rev. Cariner Bell officiated.
Randle is the son of Alice Randle and the late James Randle of Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Isadore Randle, and a sister, Sarah Randle.
Survivors include: his mother; three brothers, Richard, Anthony and Thomas, all of Chicago, IL; three sisters, Thiresa Garden and Valda Randle of Chicago, IL and Evelyn Lewis of Carthage; grandmother, Sallie Thomas of Chicago; one daughter, and one son.
Pallbearers were: Samuel Wright, Jr., Leroy Lewis, Anderson Robison, Andrew Davis, and Ronald Watson.
Donald Michael Booker
Died: Monday, December 06, 2004
Age: 52
Funeral services were held for Donald Michael "Mickey" Booker of Lexington on Sunday, December 12, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive M.B. Church in Lexington with Rev. Raymon T. Carter, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Booker, 52, died on Monday, December 6, 2004 at the result of an automobile accident.
Booker was born on June 23, 1952 in Chicago, IL to Christine Vernice Randle-Booker.
Booker was a member of Mt. Olive M.B. Church and a Maintenance Supervisor with the Department of Human Services in Lexington.
He was married to Annette Williams.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Berry, and a sister, Erma D. Bryant.
Survivors include his mother, Christine V. Berry; a brother, Robert Booker of Las Vegas, NV; and four sisters, Zelma Griffin of South Holland, IL, Katherine Randle of Los Angeles, CA, Glenzia Hart of Detroit, MI, and Velma Pate of Glenwood, IL
Pallbearers were Herman Randle, Jr., Issac Randle, Larry Randle, Oscar Randle, Sammy Wright, and Joe Williams.
Mollie Cross

Age: 54
Mollie Cross of Tchula, 54, died Saturday, December 4, 2004, at Green wood Leflore Hospital in Green wood. Services were 1 p.m. Saturday, December 11 at Grace Community Church with burial in Good Hope Cemetery in Mileston. Century Hairston Funeral Home of Lexington handled the arrangements.
John F. Garver, Jr.

Age: 79
John F. Garver, Jr. of Morton, 79, died Thursday, December 2, 2004, in Lexington.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, December 4 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Morton with burial in the Ludlow Cemetery. Rev. Billy Frazier and Rev. Ralph Hunt officiated.
Mr. Garver was a native of Hazlehurst in Copiah County and had lived in Durant for a number of years, prior to making his home in Morton for the past 15 years. He was a member of Andrews Chapel Methodist Church in Brandon.
Survivors include two sons, Glen B. Garver of North Augusta, Mississippi Division, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.
James E. Gant, Sr.

James E. Gant, Sr. of Jackson, 68, died Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at Central Texas, Robert Gant of Blackhawk and Toby Gant of Kilmichael; ten grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
